You're right, but I just liked him. Has a lot of upside. Any news on who else they're eyeing? I keep reading Preston from Skins but I don't wanna spend a ton for him.
Who claimed it was a guaranteed fix via free agency? That is what you're getting at, right?
They're worse on defense today than they ended the season at. They have no players on defense. Not a single player on this defense scares anyone or makes you think they have a differencemaker.
Drafting and starting 7 defensive rookies isn't fixing it either.
I'm trying to check this out online and everything I see connects Â
is never a good idea. But, if all indications point to us punting on the 2019 season, then perhaps we should do things differently too, ie cutting Eli or trading down to amass more picks....

I'm not sure why you're stating your case? I don't get your dig. It seems like an exaggeration to prove you were right. Just because fans say issues can be fixed doesn't mean they think or are saying the issue will get fixed for certain.
while they finish dumping contracts they don't want, etc.
The upside is their cap structure will be leaner, and perhaps they even hit rock bottom for a high pick that results in Eli's successor.
Teardowns take time, we're only partly into offseason #2.
So the plan is to bottom this thing out next year? I’ve been advocating this all offseason, if true. And if it is their plan, they’re gonna send Eli off with a sub .500 record.
It gets more and more obvious with each passing move this team is tearing it down to the screws and bolts.
At some point as DG came in, he sat down with Mara and decided this was so hopelessly f#cked up, it's time to hit the RESET button.
I'm a little bit surprised JackRabbit's still here.
Jenkins and Beckham need to not be here if we’re punting on 2019. I’m also wondering as it gets clearer by the day why Eli hasn’t walked away. I know he has 23 million reasons not to, but if he stays, his record will finish sub .500. For a guy with HOF aspirations, even he must know his record will be a huge strike against him.

Beckham is going to be a pain in the ass all year if he’s coming along for this ride. I can see it now as the losses accumulate.

The strategy seems to be not to overpay for long term deals on stopgap players. If a player is likely to have a role once we move on from Eli that is one thing, but otherwise they are looking at shorter term deals at more reasonable rates. We should not be talking about the Curtis Riley's of the world, but I am not sure someone like Landon Collins is twice the player of a Deone Buchannan or Andrew Sendejo.
The Giants 2005 FA class and the 2016 FA class present Â
the signings of Pierce, McKenzie, and Plax in 2005 were far more successful than the acquisitions of Vernon, Harrison, and Jenkins in 2016.
To me the answer is that the Giants clearly had a more talented core to begin with in 2005, and these acquistions in FA allowed the organization greater flexibility come draft time.
The 2016 signings more closely look like an act of desperation to make up for years of poor drafting.
Fast Forward, the morale of the story is that FA can be used to plug specific holes but it is not a substitute for drafting well.
Lets solve the RT problem and maybe get a S or a CB and then focus on the draft.

If it was a true rebuild they’d cut Eli before March 17th and start the process of a new QB, otherwise you’re wasting two more years of Barkley’s prime.
Given the premium that the better ERs normally receive in FA Â
to wait until all this is over and we're ready to start the season, before I make a determination about how the season will play out. There's a loooooooong, long way to go, and we're only into day 2 of free agency.
2018, for sure. OB's future with NYG could well be tied to Eli's, TBD.
thats what I think.
Beckhams value as a trade chip is worth more leading up to the draft that we intend to take our next qb. He is guarenteed to net a #1 plus. Use Odel to get the guy we want when he is there.
It looks like they're trying to field the best team possible while tearing it down.
I know tanking isn't popular in the NFL but this just doesn't make sense to me. Choose one direction: either try to win or completely tear it down. To have it both ways goes against team building common sense.

It doesn't make sense to you because it's asinine. This is an attempt to field the best team they can while they rebuild?
If anything, spending money in some places ($23M on Eli) and not others is just going to prolong whatever rebuild they're planning.
The Giants don't have a fucking clue, and the record is all the proof you need, and will need for at least the next couple of years.

In a perfect world where people don't speak in absolutes while having little to no information, this kind of nuance would be agreeable. That's not what this place has been in years.

You can add 2018 as another seminal class to bolster the claim.
It sounds simple -- but it takes a lot of good players to be a good team. It's very difficult to just address the biggest holes and hope for a turnaround.
They've been tearing it down since DG stepped onboard Â
But, because of the CBA and contracts, and honestly what appears to be some misguided belief in Eli, it's taking more than just one offseason to tear it down.
I get the frustration. I get the leadership might be wishy washy and not going about this the right way, it's entirely possible they're not.
But, teams try to field the best team possible every season. DG is gutting what he can when he can. I figured it would take 2-3 seasons to completely rebuild this roster, and could even be longer.
Agreed. I think people are just anxious and want a winner now, but overpaying guys is not the formula to go about doing that.

Knee jerk reactions, constantly.
DG is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.
"He's signing too many people to big contracts, no plan, all in on Eli!"
"Why is he not signing anybody to these monster, overblown contracts? Asleep at the wheel!"
The upside is their cap structure will be leaner, and perhaps they even hit rock bottom for a high pick that results in Eli's successor.

^This. This is year two of a multi-year rebuild.

For sure. Let's call it financial common sense.
The good news is the offense is going to score a lot.
The bad news is the defense is going to get pounded.
BUT this is how you build. Free agency is fun, but this is another crucial draft. Need need need to hit on a handful of players.

Move on from Eli and Odel together
Smith had three total sacks over the last 8 games of the year.
He had a five game stretch with no sacks, one tackle for loss.
He was a product of Baltimore's defense and will be a FA BUST.
