Just talked to a team that is convinced if someone makes the Giants the right offer, Beckham will be traded and Beckham has a very short list of where he wants to go.
if they take JUST #2 for OBJ....i will ever root for this scrub team again.
Ill bet my steak to your hotdog that OBJ has a better career than whoever is drafted at #2.
sure i cant know who is going #2 and what they will be but i know OBJ is a HoF talent without a doubt. thats good enough odds for me.
trading him for #2 and thats it is a fucking disaster of a move.
Top 3 WRs don't grow on trees. Especially not like OBJ.
I think there are lot of old Giant fans that want him gone for the tats, the hair and the TD celebrations.
With Saquon, Engram and Shephard we don't need an absolute top 5 WR to have an effective passing game especially with an improved OL and Saquon at RB.
An Amari Cooper level guy for instance would probably still give us an effective pass game.
No shit? You realize Amari Cooper was the 4th pick in the entire fucking draft the year he came out. That is not some ham and egger you are talking about.
You could take that sentence and change the name of the team and the player (except for maybe Chiefs and Pat Mahomes) and it would be true. Sure it might take your next five first round picks but anyone could be had for the right price
Well, it is a done deal now. Micky, based on your insistence that Reese wasn't going anywhere, when you make a proclamation, then the likelihood of the opposite occurring is a safe bet.
You think a "Hershal Walker" type trades happen this day and age? Or the Giants would be ok with a $35 mil dead money for something less? Now, if talking 2020, there is more of a chance but still
Let's be clear. It is $16M this year and $12M next year (the dead cap hit). Quit reading the headlines. OBJ's inflated guaranteed contract includes guaranteed salaries that the new team will be on the hook for. If people think $16M is too much for DG to eat, then they haven't been paying attention. We ate JPP's contract for a third last year.
Via @JosinaAnderson on NFL LIVE: there is an AFC North team that as recently as today continues to inquire on Odell Beckham, Jr.'s availability and discussions have remained ongoing.
Based on eveything that comes from the Giants side regarding any deal
It would have to be an incredible haul of a deal. It's not even about eating dead money, though that number is significant. They don't want to trade him, so it makes sense that the Giants don't have any interest in eating dead money to trade a player they don't want to trade.

Anak, I was just watching the segment and she added that the original team (inferring San Fran) is still in talks. That extra isn't mentioned in her tweet.
I would trade Beckham -- but only if it made the Giants a better team -- this means I want proven players (more than one) and high draft picks (more than 1) - preferably a combination of a least 5 proven players and high draft picks -- without that I don't do it
It's gotta be a Hershel Walker deal
Exactly! We need a "fleecing" type deal from a team that feels it is a WR away from a SB.
If you get say a 2nd/3rd year veteran OL clear upgrade; a 2nd/3rd year FS upgrade and a first & 3rd this year and 2nd next year, maybe you want to pull the trigger? But that is getting a lot for a guy who gets hurt a lot in OBJ.
I will add this: during the season, say 4 or 5 games in; if a team loses a starting WR to injury and is a WR away from being a true, bonafide contender, you might trade OBJ for a pair of #1's and a player who starts for us at a position of need. But we'd have to be like 1 -4 and clearly not contenders again, which very well may happen
Amari Cooper was the 4th pick in the draft. We're going to trade OBJ for a draft pick that we can then use on a WR and hope he's a quality pro? Has anybody noticed the crazy contracts being given to mediocre WRs? Or all the top teams that have recently traded to acquire WR talent. Top end gamebreaking WRs are hard to find, and they are essential to success in the current NFL.
The Giants do not have a single player on the roster who is close to a WR1. And after Shepard, they don't really even have anyone who is more than a WR3. Based on two games late in the season you're going to argue Engram is suddenly Travis Kelce? In today's NFL, without two legitimate offensive playmakers, you're not going to do very much. Saquon is a special talent, but if the Giants can't stretch the field, he will be bottled up and beat up, and we will diminish his value in the present and for the future. If the Giants think they're in full on rebuild, then maybe you can make an argument for a trade that nets you a massive haul. But otherwise, you're just making the team worse in the short and long-term.
You all complain about them operating like a family when it comes to the QB.
Now we're supposed to believe that the Giants have open phone lines regarding their best and most beloved players? That would be a real change in philosophy.
That would be a dumb policy to believe that they don't even listen
How do you think the Zeitler trade happened, when he was part of the rumored Beckham deal? The Browns called about Beckham, got told no, but learned Zeitler could be had.
Didn't Gettleman tell them to hang up the phones....
but dont want to part with the 2nd pick in the draft which is what the Giants want. Id guess hed get traded for #2 if offered. I doubt that is offered though.
Or were they told no to that offer but keep trying?
Seems like the latter.
Yes they were told no. They ended up trading an excellent Guard to the Giants for a player the Giants were *you're not gonna believe this* actually trying to trade. It's weird how we knew the Giants were trying to trade Olivier Vernon, yet somehow all we keep hearing is that they have no intention of trading Beckham.
but dont want to part with the 2nd pick in the draft which is what the Giants want. Id guess hed get traded for #2 if offered. I doubt that is offered though.
Think about the deviation between the reality and what some people here think the Giants should get. There are people saying SF should give up the #2 pick overall, their first rounder next year, and more.
What a gift it would be if we could be sitting with 2 picks in the top 6 & trade our second round pick for Rosen. Talk about accelerating a rebuild.
That would be insane; just as SF would be insane to offer the #2 pick for the right to pay Beckham.
I wonder if they'd say yes to next year's first rounder and another pick. Figure Eli's the QB in 2019 anyway; Gettleman may want to load up on ammo to get one of the QBs next year.
with picks #2 and #6.
Imagine a J. Allen and N. Bosa to start a rebuild on that defense.
Pair that with what we already have on the DL.
DG is all about making the OL/DL the strength of the football team...
I love this plan
We have no defense & a ton of money committed to skill positions, it makes sense.
Also, there is an element here to collect assets which is something the Eagles did brilliantly leading up to Wentz. Im fine passing on QB this year, but Gettleman better have assets lined up to have flexibility in April 2020.
Me thinks the disappointing AB trade haul doesn't bode well for moving OB soon.
I don't think Odell is going anywhere, but just because Pitt got squat for AB, doesn't mean the Giants wouldn't get more for Odell. The Steelers had to trade AB, everyone knew it. The Giants don't have to trade Odell.
But true, the idea that they would get this years 1st and 3rd plus next years 1st, is pie in the sky at this point.
but dont want to part with the 2nd pick in the draft which is what the Giants want. Id guess hed get traded for #2 if offered. I doubt that is offered though.
ProFootball Talk on NBCSN this morning had a video segment of Kyle speaking in generalities of the building of their roster. He did not mention names as it would be a blatant tampering violation, but he said that they are looking to add a WR and open to trade. He then added that they don't want to add players at the expense of the future draft picks.
It sounds to me that they have a value/price that they would be willing to part with, but the asking price is too high.
The San Fran/OBJ connection has been rumored since last year. They obviously have a strong interest, but they want their cake and to eat it too. DG needs to tell them that he is willing to listen to San Fran this year. But he also needs to let them know that DG intends to trade OBJ to whomever is at the top of the draft next year to get his guy. If San Fran is intending on picking at the top, then they can play the slow-game. But if San Fran really wants OBJ and does not intend to be in the top of the draft, then this is their chance. Negotiations start #2, their 2nd, and a conditional 2020 1st/2nd based on OBJ's performance (I suspect that should easily be a first round pick).

Total pie. The other point is OB still has to show his old explosive home run burst is back, because I didn't see it in 2018.

1st this year, and 2020 1st is my guess.

How it works is team contact them to make offers, and the Giants laugh at them.

If you need to be blown away to make a deal, that is precisely 'not wanting to trade a player'.

Otherwise no way.

I don't know if I'd say that for Lombardi. He's been consistent all offseason that Beckham wouldn't be traded.
