We need to build our defense and we only have three draft picks in the first four rounds, so assuming we don't draft a qb, I was hoping we would devote our draft resources to defense.
DG has been negotiating with our future right tackle. Could/should be our one splash into free agency.....
I hope not. Not that Daryl Williams wouldn't solidify the O-Line, but look at our defense. It's barren. We have Jackrabbit on the wrong side of 30, Ogletree who is inconsistent and a bunch of whos?
still a lot of names out there with cap space hopefully drying up
but then teams are going to wait it out. The likes of the Giants etc, have been burned once (maybe twice with Solder) and are willing to get the 'Who's' Anakin referenced to build the team. Paying big bucks for mediocre players gets you into trouble. if you can avoid it then wait for the deals...
RE: Clinton Dix was a BUST in DC after the trade last year.
then you can draft a C in rd 2 and let halapio and pulley go after this year. this sets the OL for years to come and has the offense ready made for next years rookie QB
draft defense pretty much the rest of the draft including at pick 6. play the kids on D this year and then next year there will be a ton of cap space to use to supplement the D with the dead money, eli, ellison, and martin gone and jenkins likely to go as well assuming beal is the real deal
the key to this offseason is just to not give out bad contracts and don't screw up the draft
Heres something to ponder:
If it appears DG is tearing this thing down to the foundation, other than his $23 million, why the heck would Eli want to be a part of what looks to be a throw away year? And if it is indeed a throw away year, buckle up for the Odell Beckham experience. I would think hed be a pain in the balls all year.

Agreed. We don't have a lot to work with this year. Arguably on defense Betcher needs scheme fits more then superstars. And honestly what % of the cap are you going to allocate to OL? They already have 2 OL making north of $10mm.
Go draft a pass rusher rd1 and a RT rd2 and use the rest of the draft capital on Betcher's scheme fits.
Sign guys that fit the scheme that are reasonable. Better signing 3 $5mm players then 1 $15mm player.

Ill get burned at the stake for this but looking at our situation from a purely common sense point of view, Im trading obj to the niners for their first and second. Totally rebuild the D with Bosa at #2, White at #6 Rapp #34
They were pretty out of control in the few hours between the Pulley and Hart signings! That Hart signing was a pretty clear indication of the craziness soon to come.
and most of that grade is based on them sitting out this insane market. Add in the pre-FA swap of OV for Zeitler and this has been we played.
If they can get Williams at a price they like, even better.
I expect them to jump back into FA after the first wave to address some holes/depth on defense
That Zeitler trade looks pretty genius right now. Zeitler would probably get 20 million a year if he were available in this market, 12 looks fantastic for the next few years. Thats just slightly above Bobby Hart $$

Problem is you now need a WR, especially with Shepard entering the last year of his deal and going by some of the WR contracts this year, he's easily getting $10M+ next offseason. And it's reportedly not a very good WR draft.

LMFAO
He is the best RT in the NFL after all, it looks like he is just trying to help the Bengals out by giving them a team friendly deal since they believed in him.... sarcasm off lol

Hakeem Butler Iowa state, Deebo Samuel could be second round guys?
Stopped referencing the panic of Giants fans when I genuinely haven't seen one fan panic.
Agreed.
Yup well said. I think most of us realize what this team needs is 2-3 more good drafts in a row and to figure out the Eli succession, not a bunch of shiny overpriced free agents this week.
Told the Giants interest was mild. Gettleman just not willing to pay for safeties. Keep thinking Giants end up with a cheap vet like Kurt Coleman
So we've gone from a GM who didn't value OL and LBs to one who doesn't value DBs.
I wouldn't say he doesn't value DBs as Jenkins is still here.
Other than Amos, I'm glad he's avoided the other safeties as the only ones I'd even consider giving >$12M per year to are Harrison Smith and Eric Berry and neither are available. Maybe Thomas if he was a few years younger and not coming off a major injury.

Is that the giants solve RT or center here in FA and then just crush the draft and field a flawed but young and hungry defense with the explosive top 7 offense.
Sign the biggest names for the biggest $$. Often more than the on field value. That is a sign of desperation.
The Giants, for the first time in a while, are not moving early, not spending big. Not making a big splash move.
For the casual fan, that is ominous and causes some to opine the the GM is not doing their job.
In fact, the GM is doing his job well by not going for the big splash this year. This is not the Giants of old who needed one or two players for a SB run.
The salary cap causes teams to be judicious with the $$ they allocate.
The teams making the big splashes are either sitting on excessive cap space (from not paying out in years past to drafted or free agent acquired players) or believe they are close to making a super bowl run.
In either case, the NYG are not Big Splash worthy in 2019.
The Giants are entering year two of a 3 year rebuild and will be selective on who they sign in Free Agency and for how much. The wallet is not that deep this year.
Poor drafting and poor contract management is still a large obstacle for the 2nd year GM to overcome and correct.
Patience is needed by fans - something that NYers are often in short supply of.
Plus, don't drink the kool-aid of the articles written in the press / media. They are designed to attract readers and generate interest / discussion / clicks for market share. Few beat writers have any true insights, or even a basic understanding of the Capologist implications of the NYG current and future contracts.
The media articles and articles are almost "fantasy football" level of truly understanding reality. All too often the readers get sucked into believing what the writers create.
defense are Hill, Carter and Beal. Add Houston and a decent Safety plus draft picks and we can be ok. Get RT Williams and the offense is set to score tons of points.
I hope not. Not that Daryl Williams wouldn't solidify the O-Line, but look at our defense. It's barren. We have Jackrabbit on the wrong side of 30, Ogletree who is inconsistent and a bunch of whos?

He's legit a terrible tackler
He's pretty similar to Collins. If you can get him for 1/2 the price, it's a solid deal. No clue if you can though.
Agreed.

Ended up a pretty good year.

Hopefully a sign things are settling. Different position, but I'd be happy if we could get Daryl Williams for a comparable deal.

First signing where I think they missed the boat.

12 is slightly above 7? Must be the new math.
Nick Perry, 1yr prove it deal???
Donald Penn? is he any good? 1yr deal 7M (that's what he was scheduled to make with the Raiders.)
Hopefully not Sendejo either. If they're going the cheap vet route, it needs to be someone that's somewhat likely to stay on the field.
Thats all I got. Talk to me in November...
