If the Giants want a comp pick for losing Collins . . .

Pete in VA : 3/12/2019 12:54 pm
OTC predicts it could be a 3d rounder, but in order to get it, they have to lose more players than they sign. The problem is, they have very few free agents that any team is going to want. Gettleman may be waiting out the market to see how many of the Giants' free agents are signed. The 3d rounder could be worth more than any player he's targeting.
Is the calculation

based on quantity of players, or quantity of money?

Both to some extent, I believe.
The Pats have been exploiting this for years

In FA you want to be a "seller", and not a "buyer" for a lot of reasons. This is one of them.
This was one of the reasons I wanted

them to get in on Tashaun Gipson. Would not have counted against the comp pick formula.

Remmers is also in that category. Not that I want him but all things being equal, that is a consideration.
The Pats are also big on trading

and not signing FA's... You avoid the whole signing bonus shit and can dump a guy after a time with a minor cap hit. Smart move if you know exactly what you want.

Depends on the cost, but if you can get Remmers for $4-6M per on a 1-2 year deal he's certainly an upgrade over Wheeler and at least gives you a short term stopgap at RT.
Nick Perry...

would not count against the comp formula either.

His prime was probably two years ago but he has to be better than Kareem Martin.
More cuts will be coming

by teams who have signed big free agents. Some soon, and some months from now. Potential targets for improving the bottom of the roster/special teams(and borderline starters I guess, without counting in the comp pick formula.

Gipson would be a very nice fit, depending on the $$
this team doesn't need free agents

they need solid trades to dump players form the losing and/or bad locker room culture and gain those to create change.
Trading is great, drafting really well even better. I just don't see anyone is this FA class really fitting the Giants plans for the next few years.
That 3rd round pick is valuable

of this game and will advise DG and team what the implications are when it comes up. Third round pick is a great comp.
This team, if lucky, needs the following to happen
SGMen : 3/12/2019 2:01 pm : link
First, I would not over-pay for a RT like we did for LT Solder last year. Unfortunately, there are too many teams with a lot of money that will drive up the price of say RT D. Williams.

My "Hope" is that Haskins is there at #6 and we trade down a bit and still get a player of need along with a #2. In the second round, we grab two offensive lineman, a RT and maybe OC.

But more likely, we land a pass rusher type at #6 and an OC or RT in round 2. You just have to hope both of the top picks are NFL ready and upgrade our team.

I'd rather get a #3 compensatory pick for Collins than way over-pay a RT like D. Williams. That is how I see things right now.

It's basically a high 4th. If you can get a young player in free agency who can help you in 2020 you don't worry about canceling out your comp pick.
In order to get a pick
TommyWiseau : 3/12/2019 4:18 pm : link
We need to lose more players then we sign. We have very few free agents this year, we would have to literally sign one player to a decent contract and hope Jamon Brown gets a decent contract (to cancel out)
Well Jamon Brown just signed with the Falcons.
.McL. : 3/12/2019 5:21 pm : link
So that means we can sign one guy...

Would not want the guy we sign to cancel out Collins though.

A RT would probably cost too much, so drafting is probably the best way to get one. But the value has to be there.
