Pittsburgh got a 3rd and a 5th for Antonio Brown. The Giants, by contrast, should get 5 or 6 starters in this deal, between Peppers, the draft picks and the cap relief.
from Beckham were a lot less about his celebrations + interviews and a lot more about when he made himself into the main attraction, got overhyped, and made costly mistakes that cost the team games. Drops, penalties, lack of concentration. I don't give a shit that he talked trash against Norman. I do give a shit that he dropped a wide open TD on the first drive of the game. I don't give a shit about his boat trip. I do give a shit about his drops in the GB game.
Even as bad as we've been he won us more games than he lost for sure, but his inability to grow up was frustrating.
Eric on Li delivering some of the best, most balanced posts on this thread. Well done.
guy did a lot for the franchise - gets a quick call from Gettleman - "Hey, you're going to Cleveland." Pretty classless if that's how it happened.
What should he have done, brought him out to lunch to break the news? If Mara and Gettleman were fed up, that’s on beckham and getting a phone call is what was deserved.
I really liked Beckham, I didn’t want him traded but it sounds like he was going to start dictating how business should be ran. He got traded, end of story.

You can isolate on the dropped TD if you want, but since when is that a mortal sin? It's not enough that he's a top 5 player, there's no room for not catching every pass? That's a strange standard, that he has to be perfect.
In that same game, he also played out of his mind after that point and tied the game in the clutch with a massive play.
Brown had the leverage to force being traded and Â
it was the only move. Yes, I would have like to get more in return. Instead of the dumb drama, look at this with logic. What we get out of this move is cap space, a first round starting safety with cost controls for three years, another first round pick, and a third round pick which was missing. We give up a soon to be 27 year old WR who is a great player. Who is often hurt, and didn't seem quite back to normal last year after a serious injury. A player who is a constant distraction both on (remember his suspension?), and off the field. A player who we NEVER won a playoff game with, and had one winning season out of five. Will the player and picks turn out equal to Beckham? Probably not. But we could never win with Beckham. He's a cancer. Now the Browns have a great player. And their locker room has the cancer. I think Dave Gettleman is a very smart and courageous guy. He did all Giants fans a favor today. The sad part is that most (not all) of those fans are too stupid to know it.
the posters here saying that "Peppers is the other 1st rounder," when trying to justify the return. He is not, he has burned 2 years off of his rookie deal already, and we only have him for 2 more at a cost controlled rate, before the 5th year option. Most of the major benefit of a new 1st round pick is having those 4 years, and Peppers does not. I don't see that as equal, especially when his play has been a tick above average (really only recently).

Antonio Brown went for what? OJB went for what? We have the 6th, 17th and 38th. Hmmm.
Evidently, star receivers are not that valuable.
Meanwhile, I recommend the G-men acquire free agent Keven White, trade their 38th to Arizona for Josh Rosen and use the 6th and 17th pick for DEFENSE starting with Sweatz.
are two of the best wrs in the game.
steelers get a 3 and 5 for AB
giants get a 1, 3, and a good safety.
apparently there must of been other factors that led to this beckham trade. so is this trade as bad as many are saying it is?

Anyone calling Odell Beckham a cancer cannot be taken seriously. And the least intelligent thing anyone can write is some version of "Well, we didn't win anything with him" as if he was the main reason why as opposed to a defense that has been bottom of the sport awful 4 of the past 5 seasons.

Shockey saying they won nothing with him is just a fact. Doesn’t mean it was his fault, just that it wasn’t working.
I m really surprised that the majority of posters here are being so negative
Plax ended that offense early. We never got to see Smith and Nicks together in their prime. Same for Nicks and Cruz. And Cruz and Odell. Now Odell and Barkley has been taken away.
My fear now is that the Giants will use the two 1st rounders to move up for a QB and that QB ends up as a bust.
I would feel better if they trade down with the 6th, perhaps the 17th for draft capital in 2020. But, chances of that are slim to none.

Let's look at two scenarios. Scenario 1 is what would have happened if they hadn't given OBJ a long-term deal and franchised him for 2019. (Remember, the Giants didn't use their franchise tag this offseason.) Scenario 2 is what actually happened.
Scenario 1: $8.5 million paid to Beckham in cash, $8.5 million on the Giants' 2019 cap, $0 in dead money on the 2019 cap
Scenario 2: $21.5 million paid to Beckham in cash, $5.5 million on the Giants' 2019 cap, $16 million in dead money on the 2019 cap

wow...
The cap issues are meaningless compared to the comparison of what we could have traded OBJ for last year, coming off the injury, versus now.
We could have PERHAPS gotten a 1st for him. Now we've gotten a 1st, 3rd, and Peppers, along with a ton of cap space next season.
I'm not in love with the trade, but I think we did better than if we'd either traded him last year or franchised him (because if he was a headache with a huge new contract, imagine what he would have been like playing under the tag).
get their ER at #6 and an OT prospect at #17, they will have solidified two major weaknesses.
Now they need two WRs, and SS isn't far from his walk year in the slot.
Things change on a dime in the NFL. Fans here thought the defense would wreak havoc after 2016 ... never happened. OB in the HoF wearing Giants Blue? Probably not gonna happen.

We wouldnt have gotten everything we did if he was franchised.
"antics" were never that bad, but the Giants obviously disagreed. Many others have cited the specifics. Other teams knew the Giants were weary of Beckham, and that invariably reduced his price. It wasn't a fire sale, but he was traded at a significant discount.
We need to move forward now, and hope that Gettleman finds good players with the new draft picks. We also need to hope that Peppers is our long term safety.
I read the first three pages of this thread and most of the posts echo my sentiments as well.
I've been a die-hard Giants' fan for over 50 years and although I'm not going to lie to myself and claim that I'm done with this team, I am really pissed!!!
Fuck Mara for dictating this trade needed to be made.
Fuck DG for getting a shitty return.
And now that I think of it, fuck OBJ as well. If OBJ had acted more like a professional our over-reactive ownership wouldn't have felt they had to trade him.
I wonder if Mara will have the balls to step in front of a microphone and at least explain this to Giants fans. Doubtful!
At this point I fully expect that the next move this team will make is to extend Eli. Clueless John probably thinks that's what we want.
That the secret to survivin'
Is knowin' what to throw away
And knowin' what to keep
'Cause every hand's a winner

Wellington Mara was a fantastic owner. John Mara has barely been tested yet. He may very well turn out to be an awful NFL owner. Having a thin skin with OBJ doing s stupid Lil Wayne interview after excepting his money may very well be his downfall when we look back.
Even as bad as we've been he won us more games than he lost for sure, but his inability to grow up was frustrating.
