Not thrilled, but wondering whether OBJ’s injury situation

Big Blue '56 : 3/12/2019 8:25 pm
is worse than we thought? Added to that, has he ever really recovered from ankle surgery? Was it as successful as they had hoped? He did look somewhat slower off his breaks, but that could just be me.

I know that most of you are pissed right now, so let’s not get into any pissing contest here. All I’m asking or wondering about is whether or not OBJ’s physicality is more problematic than what we thought.

The fact that he's missed at least a month in 3 of 5 seasons

hadda be a factor.

It's emotional, I'm emotional (shocker right?), we lost a guy who absolutely blew our doors off time and time again. He's a game changing WR who defenses have to focus on.

That said, I personally saw a little less explosion last year, that could be wrong I'm not sure but my eyes told me he was off a bit and he still put up huge numbers in 12 games. Fact: We have one winning season in his 4 here. Fact: In the biggest game of his career he created a fire storm with the boat trip and shirtless antics in GB and then he shit the bed on the field. Throw in the constant media attention, antics, and his stupid interview last year and you have to assume this was in the cards. He was simply too much for Mara and Co. to stomach that is the bottom line here. This is a company man move, I have zero doubt about it.

We lost an amazing player, but he's gone, we now have two more picks a new starting S who is young and talented and we move forward. Now we know it's a total re-build, which some of us knew but the brass never admitted to. Now it's here in all it's ugly glory. Onward to the draft.
IMO it adds to

The thought process. Pretty much proven that he can’t stay on the field so far
Good post Joey

Let him go to Cleveland. We weren’t winning anytime soon

.

He wasn't as explosive this year
widmerseyebrow : 3/12/2019 8:37 pm : link
That coupled with the injuries and his hints that he won't play hurt because Mara hurt his feelings were enough reason to trade him. But you have to get a better return.
It has nothing to do with injury

For fuck's sake, all we kept reading was that SF, Belichick - teams that have some sort of a clue - were after the guy, even post injury.

They didn't like the distraction. Apparently, sucking doesn't matter to them, so long as it's comfy.

I'll believe it we're in a total re-build when we let Eli go.
I’m good with the trade

I think people forget Beckham did not play the last four games last year. Let someone else deal with his antics and injuries.

Gettleman has balls and will build the team his way. Not sure if it is going to work out, but I respect that.
the ankle injury came against the Browns
markky : 3/12/2019 8:55 pm : link
maybe Gettleman told them "you break it you bought it"
Again, far from happy, but I opined this on another thread:
Big Blue '56 : 3/12/2019 9:12 pm : link
Love OBJ..We may have already witnessed the best of him. TBD..Also, people with his salary rarely bring in high quality in return. If he was to be traded, this is probably, objectively speaking, the best haul we could have obtained, imo, no matter how disappointed fans are..There’s a reason why SF, who purportedly coveted him, would not part with their 2nd overall pick

And how effective was the Giants offense without him? Except for the Titans game, pretty good

If Beckham was Beckham, before the injuries, before sitting out as many games as he has, I would have been incensed over the trade. But he hasn’t been. Could that change with total healing? Of course. I have my doubts
LOL
Josh in the City : 3/13/2019 1:38 pm : link
we went from OBJ milked the injury to hold himself out of the last four games to now wondering whether it's more serious than anyone ever knew.
Anyone else find it interesting that Peppers
732NYG : 3/13/2019 1:40 pm : link
was the guy that dinged Odell last preseason and now they’re in the same trade?
I said it last Fall
JonC : 3/13/2019 1:40 pm : link
he wasn't the same gamebreaker as before, the home run explosive burst and elite acceleration wasn't the same.

Why is that funny? Medically, it’s entirely plausable, I can assure you. No rational person would assert “milking” or “holding himself out.” He’s too much of a competitor to partake in that
Didn't Nicks and Dez have ankle foot injuries

Nicks has compartmental syndrome in the leg. Much different
Who knows?

What I do think is that opposing defenses were not going to let OB beat them taking underneath slants to the house. They adjusted.
