Calling all asshats re: OBJ trade

Dying to hear the views from inside re: this trade.
Gettleman had indigestion

And the Browns just happened to call.
I will say this:

When I met someone in the know with the Giants, I found out that the Giants were NOT happy with OBJ's behavior. He's had multiple team violations.

My thoughts a few weeks ago and on the other thread tonight. This whole thing went south when the Giants felt he wasn't playing when he could have been at the end of the year. The relationship was over then.

we don't know all the BS behind the scenes. Beckham to me dogged it some this year, the cramp thing was getting comical and that interview early on really stirred stuff up.

Barkley is the man here. The Giants will build around Barkley. I suspect we now go get a T and a LB in FA as well as lower end WR- Hogan, Dorsett etc. and we look to rebuild in the draft. I still don't believe we are going Haskins but Lock at 17 is a possibility.

Yup. That's an unforgivable sin. We all like to point out how bat shit crazy Antonio Brown is but Beckham was quietly doing the same here.
I'll also say this

Daryl Williams is likely signed w extra cap space we know have.

Jabril peppers was a key to this deal. Gettleman loves him

The Giants believe the o is fine. It's Barkleys team. The Giants did well without Beckham. They think this offense will be really good.

It had to be the off field stuff along with siting out the final 4 games.

Loved the talent. Fun player but not in love with being a NYG

Anak, There was an older piece written by either Vacchiano or Garafolo that summarized all the fines/suspensions that OBJ had accrued up to the date of publishing. I'm sure with googling someone can find it. But it was surprising to learn of the team infractions.

the Patriots all had one guy who was a big receptions guy who quietly goes about his business, opposite a more dynamic big play guy. I suspect we will go after a guy like that at WR , a veteran to show the way for a rookie (2nd, 3rd pick)..

based on Diehl's comments we plug some better guys at spots on oline, shore up defense with Betcher choices and we should do better this season in the winning department. Still puzzled about Eli situation though.

There's extra cap space? I thought it was all dead money.

They won 4 games against backup QB's.

They were shut out by the Titans.....

DG's plan has a backup plan.....another 5 year Plan.....

That was it for me...
They got, in essence two ones, and a three.

With Peppers being kind of a proven 1. I like Odell, but this could be good for the Giants if they use the picks wisely.
How do you sign a guy to that contract
Mr. Bungle : 3/12/2019 9:42 pm : link
and then sour on him months later?

They knew who he was and still gave him that monster deal. That's what I don't get.

IIRC, Beckham's base this year is ~$17m + $4m signing bonus = $21m cap hit pre trade. After trade, Giants only on the hook for remaining SB which is $16m so ~$5m in cap savings. (minus peppers cap hit)
Wish I had more time to share

But the last few days I heard it was really heating up. About a week ago I shared this..

There's some truth to this. Not sure how deep talks are or if they'll ever materialize but I heard they'll be aggressive and they remain very interested in Beckham.. They called at the deadline. Take it for what its worth but the people I spoke with weren't wrong last off season when it came to the Browns (Hyde and Ward). Link - ( New Window )

I should know more later this afternoon about the trade and if we're lucky what to expect moving forward.. But I will say this, be skeptical of those you listen to. Many are speculating and playing the 'connect the dots' game then claiming they have a inside info.

Re: OBJ trade

-This was primarily a Dorsey/Gettleman conversation but the Haslems and Maras were involved.

-I know everyone is talking about Beckhams contract (for good reason) which will get redone with Cleveland but Zeitler will get a reworked deal from the Giants.

-Here's where it gets crazy.. I heard from one person who thinks this was Gettlemans fail safe. He said NYG tried to get in on Foles (Miami tried as well) and now that they lost that race and since they passed on Darnold they needed the draft capital to draft a QB AND still help the defense.

-Peppers (no relation) was almost the deal breaker but Gettleman was adamant about him. I know I'm not the first to share that but if it's any confirmation I heard that as well.

I think they are right. But adding a solid RT will be important. Another WR in the draft would be helpful too.
