basically said things really started to shift after the interview with Little Wayne.. Then at trading deadline teams called Gmen about OBJ and TISCH said no. He loved OBJ. As the season wore on and OBJ was not around the last 4 weeks Tisch moved to the side of Mara and DG that OBJ had to go.
Basically said Giants would have traded him last offs eason but PS wanted to keep him. Talked to him and felt they were on the same page but things changed as the season started.
There was, like, a 3 or 4-day break from it. That wasn't enough for you?
who the fuck is going to catch the ball?!
I’m completely on board with getting anyone out that isn’t part of the future for whatever we can get for them. If that’s executed than keeping Barkley and paying him when the time comes won’t matter. Everyone is so worried about paying him when RB contracts are still relatively cheap, and we will need players like him to compete in the short and long term.
It’s just one of those ideas that makes it sounds so smart, when it really isn’t. Too much downside and the upside isn’t all that great.
We should have gotten more? Held out for a better offer? From who exactly? The league spoke and we got what the market will bear regardless as to whether the fans think it was enough.
If Odell was worth so much more, then another team would have given us a bit more. We over valued him based upon his current situation.

Wonder how some will feel here at that point?????
I’d still hate it knowing we don’t have a 1 next year from Cleveland in a draft with QB’s actually worth drafting.
If they turn the 6th and 17th into Haskins and he is bust this team will be put into the doldrums for a decade. Gettleman better get this right.
If the focal point of your team is your running back, get ready to lose a shit ton of games.
We get it, you are a broken record. People disagree with you, it’s ok.
If the focal point of your team is your running back, get ready to lose a shit ton of games.
Yea kind of like Sony Michel and James White.
If the focal point of your team is your running back, get ready to lose a shit ton of games.
They hired the wrong GM.
Barkley should go - they're not going to put together anything resembling a team in enough time to make any use of his talents. Recoup now, before you end up in a stupid situation like the Beckham one, where you end up eating a huge cap hit for the same return you could have had before you extended him.
Dude, don’t you think the giants would have gotten a bigger return of it was available? Just stop.
Everyone said that about T.O. and he ended up bouncing around the league because he was too much of a diva.

using this logic, no GM ever makes a bad trade. Ok!
The interview changed it all. PS thought he could handle him. Got his deal then when off the rails.
They will be fine without him. Will find a top notch receiver and 26 can carry the load on and off the field. Kid is a pro, OBJ could learn from the way he handles success.

I really hope you are tongue in cheek on this post, otherwise it may be the stupidest post I have ever seen on this board.
Yes this sucks. Yes the Giants offense just lost the best receiving threat in the league. (My opinion)
But it’s not like the Giants offense couldn’t put up points without OBJ last season. With the huge exception of the Tennessee game (which was a rain storm) the offense played well when OBJ was out of the lineup and was arguably more explosive. Also, the coaching staff seemed to discover the matchup nightmare that is Evan Engram. Finally, they actually started using Barkley in a more dynamic manner. Getting him down the field in the pass game.
I’m not saying it’s good OBJ is gone. I’d never say that. He is the best WR I’ve seen since Randy Moss. But perhaps it’s worth considering that the offense runs best through Saquon and Barkley? Just putting it out there.
Count me as one who thinks this means Eli isn’t back. I don’t think Eli has the tools to implement Schurmurs offense in its full entirety and whomever the next QB is, will have the ability to do just that. The only thing I’m really worried about going forward is how Gettleman will be perceived in the locker room. Not paying Collins was the right move. Trading OBJ for about 75% of what he’s worth, time will tell, but it’s a hard pill to swallow.
Going to be an interesting six or so weeks!
I’m not going to bother with any more than that. If you want to trade him, go ahead and pound your keyboard I guess. If you’re wrong, you win anyway.
I’m also surprised we had to take their second third round pick. Talk about playing hardball and we bit.
I know Pitt traded Brown for only a 3 rd and 5th pick but I think that was much different. Don’t you?

It’s like no one watched the Super Bowl champs this year...

This team has been horribly mismanaged for quite some time, and as elements of stability walked out (Coughlin, Reese), it just fell off a cliff.

You thought this was a good trade - trust me, you're knee deep in stupid thoughts and shouldn't be looking elsewhere for them.
Remember that simple fact when you are crying about losing him. Not a true Giant.

fuck all of them. this guy should have garnered a bigger return, i dont even see how that is arguable
Dude, don’t you think the giants would have gotten a bigger return of it was available? Just stop.
The rumors at the time of his extension were for roughly the same in return - and that was before the Giants took the risk of extending him post injury, and without the enormous cap hit they're going to eat now.
So there's every reason to believe the Giants were hosed.
Just another in a long line of stupid decisions dating back to 2012, which have been accelerating in the past couple of years.
Remember that simple fact when you are crying about losing him. Not a true Giant.
this is a very underrated point I forget about. He really could have cared less about the team. But then again, most diva stars are like that these days. And sometimes I can't blame them...see Steve Smith in Carolina.

No - your suggestion of NYG trading Barkley now based on the OBJ outcome is the dumbest post I have ever seen on this board.
Good post. I hope saquon is paying attention to how premier players are treated by mgmt on the NYG
Fine, but is it an accomplishment when a bad team lauds you?

The point is this "not a team player" meme is bullshit.

Pretty sure there is a difference between "team player" and "teammates like him"
Everyone is judging this trade today. It won't be judge for three years and that all depends on what players are brought it with the picks.
San Diego fans still think they got the better of the Eli/Rivers trade, yet they dont have 2 super bowls and the only one left on their team from the trade is Rivers. Give it a couple months to see what goes along with it

who ever said a negative word about OBJ. You can't. The locker room won't recover any time soon. Play your ass off. Play great. But if you express yourself at all, you're gone. Maybe Tuffy Lehmans is available. After 62 years, I'm a Brown's fan.

OBJ was treated fine. They paid him a shitload of money and then traded him when it was clear he didn’t want to be here anymore. OBJ got everything he wanted.

Odell is an awesome talent.
Also -
Has injury concerns
Got paid well
Decided to do a national interview (team didn’t know) and made an ass out of himself and the team where he questioned his future with the team
Per good inside info here, milked an injury at the end of the year
Hate we gave up a talent? Ok
Don’t like the compensation? Ok
Pretending like he was a saint and didn’t have baggage, pretending the Giants didn’t try desperately to make this work? Bullshit.
We should have gotten more? Held out for a better offer? From who exactly? The league spoke and we got what the market will bear regardless as to whether the fans think it was enough.
If Odell was worth so much more, then another team would have given us a bit more. We over valued him based upon his current situation.
If we had a lot of depth at WR then trading him would make more sense. But as it is we now have another position that's in major need of repair and on top of that we're paying 16M for Odell to play elsewhere. DG needs to go and he needs to go soon.
If the focal point of your team is your running back, get ready to lose a shit ton of games.
Bullshit.

The 2016 Dallas Cowboys say hello.
And so do the 2015 and 2012 Minnesota Vikings.

wanted Barkley to be the focal point and wanted it to be Barkley's team, someone needs to show them a calendar and that it's 2019 and not 1979.

They didn't win anything with their high priced RB did they? Want to know why? Look at their QBs.
