The real problem is....

WeekendLife56 : 3/12/2019 10:45 pm
Gentleman may now lose this team. He is the boss of mostly 20-30 year old players. His hard nose style wont work with players anymore. Carolina knew it and that's why he got fired. It's my opinion the locker room wont recover from this. If his employees didnt think he was a moron already they do now. I dont care if you have 300 million to spend players have to want to come here and well I doubt they do..

This is something that should not be discounted. He wore out his welcome in Carolina. I can't imagine what some of teammates of Collins and Beckham are thinking.

Conversely, while Collins and Beckham (two of the best players on the team) were let go, they still continue to coddle Eli. The 2 rings carry a lot of weight with the organization, but how much weight does it carry for the rest of the roster that weren't there for it. As well as haven't seen Eli lift this team to greater heights.

Getts better show some positive return on these moves quickly or the wheels could fall off before we know it!

Yup, this is a bad look in today’s NFL. The players are becoming more powerful, look what AB did last weekend.

Most of the roster is made up of guys that weren’t here
bradshaw44 : 3/12/2019 10:54 pm : link
Two years ago. And the ones that are here aren’t lighting up the league. So they can either play their position or be on their way. Nobody on this team outside of Barkley is irreplaceable.

To me Eli has nothing to do with this move today. He has one year left on his deal and then he is 99% done. The 17 million in cap space they would save by cutting him this year would not have much of an impact on the win loss column for this season.

because he's sooooo much smarter than everyone else when it comes to game planning and coaching. Take our idiot Shurmer and make him head coach, and Gettleman GM in NE today, let Bill B come to NYG and see the results in one year. Head Coaching is huge in the NFL - no one is even close to Bill B.

And there is a problem with that? You think BB or Nick Saban give a crap? I understand the coaches needing to be able to relate to the players, but the GM needs to be separate.

No it isn't. That is BS. Without a certain degree respect, there is anarchy. You do not win with anarchy. That is how the locker room got out of hand with McAdoo. And while Coughlin had to backoff and have his team council, what he got in trouble for was petty nonsense.

Until he talks back to the wrong coach. He'd better be a superstar to get what you believe will happen. And chances are, the rest of the kids catch up physically to him and he isn't the same stud anymore.
But, yeah, we've seen it happen before - the excuses and tolerances as long as the team is winning.

If Barkley starts sitting of games and posting not so cryptic messages about not wanting to play hurt because the Giants "burned bridges" then sure. Ship his ass out.

But its hard to imagine that with Barkley because he's not an asshole.

Players trashed Coughlin when he was here. Remember those polls saying he was the one coach people didn't want to play for?

It'll blow over. As far as losing the locker room, what locker room? DG is blowing it up. I hope he continues to move guys out.

The locker room gets lost
hitdog42 : 3/13/2019 5:47 am : link
When a team protects an underperforming aging player at the most important position in the game because of things accomplished (and very much appreciated) 10 years ago.
Trading and cutting talented guys but being very ok with occupying the bulk of cap space with a bottom third player at his position at this stage is how you lose a young locker room.

The giants were so bad last 2 years that the hurdle to be better is literally nothing- but notice where all the leaks will be coming from- not from the bulk of the players with regards to Beckham-

Patriots are an outlier. Biggest part of management is handling personalities.
