an much better Oline already heading towards the draft, with a RB of superior skills, a TE who can be a threat and a VET QB that just needs to manage things right now...
The draft to me is about finding LT (no not a LT), a LB that attacks, attacks and attacks.. The Barkley of our defense.
even if it means signing Williams, it doesn't make up for the OBJ trade. If anything, it makes it seem a little more silly to me. Why trade him when you potentially just added Zeitler and Williams to your OL? They could've been much more dynamic next year. I mean, you always want to improve the OL but yeah. Plus his tweet was worded in a way that whatever happens around 4 PM would sort of make up for the unhappy/sour feelings that people had tonight. One signing won't do that. I just don't get what Pat was going for there. Probably just random damage control.
I would actually argue the opposite. Teams with dominant/very good OL’s don’t need star WRs. They need star RB and decently competent receivers who can catch. Look at some of the playoff teams as of late, he’ll even look at the Eagles. They don’t have a star WR and they kick our ass nearly every fucking game.
DG will have rebuilt the O Line. He could conceivably rebuild the defense and get a future QB all in 2 years.
He never said he would keep Collins, Vernon, Snacks and OBJ.
He said he would do what is in the best interest of the NY Football Giants.
It has been a roller coaster ride this week.
I would not hold my breath. As Anakim said, Ds are going to stack the line against us next year. We are unequivocally one of the two or three worst teams in the league. Honestly, I can't think of two worse teams.
defending the Giants here... merely pointing out my gut tells me we have at least one and possibly more announcements coming tomorrow.
This team can do whatever it wants. It's all window-dressing. Why is Eli sticking around for this? Honestly, even if we sign a RT, this team is utter trash. No better than a 3 win team, in all likelihood. Just unreal.
defending the Giants here... merely pointing out my gut tells me we have at least one and possibly more announcements coming tomorrow.
Of course, they are gonna dump money at someone to try and save face, they will also continue to leak info on how bad a person Odell was. However, like him or not they got little return for him.
But teasing the signing of a relatively anonymous RT right after trading away your 26 year old HOF WR, and one of the most recognizable faces in football, to calm the masses seems a little tone deaf. Like taking a dollar store squirt gun to a roaring fire.
I doubt it, but I wonder if it’s more than Williams. Although Williams would solidify the OL, it’s not much of a balm to fans in an uproar over the Obj trade.
the Giants will have their successor to Eli before the season, either through the draft or free agency.
As I (and others) have mentioned on so many threads, the Giants are going to go forward with the "Kansas City Model" one way or another. Getting that extra first round pick will ensure that no one will leap frog them to get a QB they like (other than Murray going #1). I'm lukewarm on Haskins personally, maybe they will want Lock, or they will trade for Rosen. But I think the Giants will want to go into 2019 with Eli the starter and grooming a young QB. If (or let's face it) when the 2019 season unravels, instead of seeing Eli out there when the Giants are 2-6, they will start the kid and the new era of Giants football will begin.
I doubt it, but I wonder if it’s more than Williams. Although Williams would solidify the OL, it’s not much of a balm to fans in an uproar over the Obj trade.
Agree. Not necessarily that it's anything with Rosen, just that signing a RT is not going to go very far in the way of calming the masses.
we will have one of the most expensive OL in the NFL if not the most expensive. Monster LT contract, Monster RG contract, Monster RT contract. All over 10 mil a year.
So we'll have a good O-Line and no receivers to throw it to. They're going to put every CB, S and LB on Saquon.
What's the offense equivalent to a coverage sack?
a coverage sack is a good thing for the D, so it would have to be a slow developing play with a nice outcome for the O. A WR reverse pitched back to Eli for a 15 yard gain?

I hope they do something, because I have zero desire to watch a football team tank for a year. All these reporters saying they won’t take a QB I don’t really believe it.
I was thinking the same thing when I saw the tweet. But even w a revamped o line that I think will greatly help Barkley and Eli immensely, what are you going to do when they put 8 or 9 in the box?
Is anyone scared of Sterling Shepherd as a no 1 receiver? Nice player but I’m pretty sure no one is scared of playing man on him. And EE? Do we think he’s going to turn into an elite TE next year? This seems really bad. Maybe this is the best deal they could get. However, I begin to question it when you get their second pick in the 3rd round? Would Cleveland have walked if you said give me your first pick in the 3rd? Again, 3rd round pick likelihood of a long NFL career probdbly doesn’t matter w what the Giants settled for but I feel like they settled.
and Williams plays up to his ability - you really have to give Gettleman a lot of credit for turning one of the worst OLines into a pretty respectable group.
we will have one of the most expensive OL in the NFL if not the most expensive. Monster LT contract, Monster RG contract, Monster RT contract. All over 10 mil a year.
This is irrelevant. The Giants would have around 80 mil in cap space next year even if they give Williams a huge deal.
They also have a ton of picks this year who will be cheap the next 4 years.
RE: Didnt they score 40pts while OBJ was sidelined? Â
The 1st and 3rd draft picks play, i see what Peppers brings to the table and what the extra 19 mil in cap does....
OBJ made a ton of highlight reals.....but he folded in the playoffs, has been injured more often and he was not exactly happy here
I'm only replying here to say he played in what, 1 playoff game? He's going to be a huge difference maker in the playoffs for the Browns.
I will say this, if Gettleman trades the compensation we got for OBJ to move up in this draft for any of the QBs in this class, it will be a monumental fuckup.
You can't trade OBJ, a HOF caliber player, for picks and a player and then trade away more picks you got for your HOF guy because you're afraid Dwayne Haskins, a QB with, going by memory here...14 college starts, isn't going to be on the board at #6.
If they like Haskins, take him at 6. If he's gone, that means you'll probably have an elite non-QB talent t available to you. Either Josh Allen or Ed Oliver, Jawaan Taylor, or Rashan Gary.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Giants are looking at Drew Lock for 17, though, if he lasts that long (doubtful).
I'd rather the Giants get 2 very good players in the draft and then try to get their QB in 2020, just really think that is the year to get your franchise QB.
I would sign up for Josh Allen and Christian Willing in the first round, though.
We're not going to be good, so we should be in prime position for Tua, Herbert, Fromm, or Costello next year.
Except that there will be more competition for QB's next year than this year.. a lot more..
doesnt matter. we will be picking #1. with this defense and literally no bodies at WR...we are in a lot of trouble. everyone is blowing barkley but fact is teams are going to stakc the shit out of the box
4 PM is the official start of the league year. I don't think Pat Hanlon meant anything more than that.
Matt, 4PM is the official start of free agency. Am I reading too much into that tweet? Perhaps.
I think Eric's instincts are right. It seems there's usually a reason that a deal or news of a deal breaks when it does. Giants always close to the vest until they can officially announce something. Possibly needed added cap bump from Odell deal if they wanted Williams; or pick flexibility from acquired slots to make potential deal for Rosen; otherwise why does Gettleman pull the trigger tonight?

2-6? Really? Last season we started 1-7. 2017 I believe the same. This team will be lucky to win 2 games all season. I just was on the phone with my cousin, and we are pretty much in agreement that the Giants and Dolphins are far and away the two worst teams in the league. I just don't know any other way to put it. Starting 2-6 would be surprising to me, as I expect us to start 1-7 and finish no better than 3-13.
This team is hideous.

We're in agreement. Until today, I didn't think we could guarantee ourselves a QB next year. Well, that is finished. We are an atrocious football team. No two ways about it. I assume we will sign Daryl Williams, so I am taking that into account as well.

You missed a step actually. Sign Williams; suck balls; convince team that Eli is best option and bash QBs at top of draft; run it back with Eli; suck again; pass up Trevor Lawrence because of some stupid reason; play with Eli until 45.
I think the big news will be parting ways with Eli Â
As being in any offset by signing a RT, he needs to get out of his office more. Signing Williams is a good move, but getting Eli another half second isn’t really much help when there is nobody downfield who can get open or run after the catch.
I don’t this his tweet had anything to do with a move Â
I just don’t think he can comment officially until then. The Giants probably don’t have Pat Hanlon in the loop on any personnel moves that far in advance and they sure as shit wouldn’t condone him publicly hinting at moves to come.
