Even make sense given the contract he already and recently signed.
Plus, probably his best friend in football is Jarvis Landry, and to be able to play with him again is a dream come true for both guys, and OBJ loves Mayfield as well, the kid has immense swagger. There is no way OBJ is not completely thrilled with this trade.
"Not saying he's going to veto. Definitely not saying he's going to veto. But I am saying he saw the Antonio brown situation happen and the power that a star player has in these situations. AB went from a really good contract to the highest paid receiver in the league. What the Raiders did was not add New Years, they simply ripped up the deal and added money. It seems that is what Odell would like to do to complete this trade."
a player without a NTC can veto a trade if no increase in AAV compensation... And if that's somehow a valid NFL contract clause for player veto, what is the percentage to increase?
I really can't imagine its a deal breaker. NYG and OBJ divorced tonight.
I don't see there being any way OBJ comes back here, but I could see the threat of a holdout and a possible trade elsewhere make the Browns pony up some more cash.
last year coming off the injury. i get trying to make ti work with him, he's talented and was saying all the right things. and if nothing else the giants had to give him a year to prove he could come back from the ankle before they could get anything of value in return if they wanted to move him. gettleman's all about culture and shit, so he must've pegged beckham for a stain on the locker room. he's a distraction and that should be obvious to even his biggest supporters
I don’t doubt that he can do that, but why would he? Â
This just keeps getting better. Gettleman is such a genius.
Gettleman was a fool for handing this loser a contract on the advice of another fool, Shurmur.
So let him walk as a fa and get nothing in return?
Beckham was not going to be a free agent. He was going to be paid 8.4M dollars last year on his 5th year option.
Gettleman paid him ~23M instead for his 12 games.
The Giants could have either 1) not extended him and 2) when he inevitably held out traded him.
I know in your view money doesn't seem to matter, but if we're being intellectually honest saving the 23M and getting what they could for him last year via trade was a viable option.

Nothing solid.

In truth they should have traded him a couple years ago, but that wasn't on Gettleman.
That mean one of the big bonuses of the deal for the Browns (not having to pay the signing bonus) is mitigated.
That makes him worth less.
In truth they should have traded him a couple years ago, but that wasn't on Gettleman.
They should have traded him two years into his career?
You're so unearthly unhinged about this guy he must be paying rent for the space in your head.
And I don't know how you can criticize me on this given how it turned out.

But with the benefit of hindsight, he's was right.

To the detriment of the franchise
He knows this team is not built to win for the foreseeable future, and it is clear they no longer want him here.
At least he has a shot to ask for a raise with Cleveland. He does not even have that option here.
“Hey, so that trade thing was kinda weird, huh? Anywho...glad to have you here!”
