It appears bad and we live in a right now world and that's okay. We are not winning anything this year or next year with a new QB. So we get more blocks to build a depleted roster and we keep working.
They treded one of the best receivers in football Â
In his prime, on a long term deal, for a bag of donuts. The return was not good.
A 1st round, a 3rd round and a former 1st round starting safety with huge upside is a bag of donuts?
Cannot beat the stupid on this site. I'm an Odell fan and backed him through all the self inflicted wounds. I don't like that he was traded. But FFS, only in a fantasyland of Madden was anybody giving up much more than what the Browns gave up.
Shurmur is in OK for their pro day, I believe, checking out Murray, Cody Ford, etc. All sorts of media types will be around so he’ll probably have to answer some questions there. Clemson pro Day tomorrow. Wonder if a different Giants scouting crew assigned for that?
If you are not privy to the factors going on behind the scenes. This is no a trade you make on purely football interests. Other teams were certainly aware of the tensions between OBJ and the Giants leadership. They may have not known the exact nature of the tensions but they didn’t need to. In these situations, the team trading the player never seems to get maximum trade value. Gettleman made a trade that he felt brought back the best possible return. OBJ bought this on himself. I’m sad to see him go and hope he will be happy in Cleveland. It was a deal that was unavoidable. Let the wailing commence and then move on.

salary/contract, that brought in a treasure trove of picks? Most likely, not many, if any at all..You can reasonably debate whether or not he should have been traded, that’s perfectly fine. But if you are going to pull the trigger with these financial type situations, what we received is probably the best you can do..
Also AGAIN, SF, who reportedly strongly desired OBJ, did NOT pull the trigger on a trade that would have yielded the 2nd top pick in the entire draft. I wonder why that is?
if you don't know all the problems he caused you certainly don't know his side of it.
And Maras, Tisch, Gettleman all get paid big bucks - biggest part of management is dealing with the personalities. No one knows how good or bad they are regarding that responsibilty.
You are exactly right. The value of the contract plays a big part in value. AB 3rd and a 5th. We will add players with the salary dump that will factor in next year when we will have 80-90 mil cap space. OBJ gets hurt the team that only gets one player gets screwed. Still in shock

Football is a job just like any other except the pay and profile is larger.. Most of us work for other people who pay us. When we no longer perform to the expectations of the people who pay us we are fired. In sports you are usually traded. In the end it’s all on the employee whether it’s sport or regular life. Ownership obviously felt that they bent over backwards to please OBJ and that those actions were not reciprocated.

It appears like they are quite bad at it.
At this point I rather have all the locker room cancers than the guys cleaning it out.
So many here felt they weren’t going to win this year anyway- Â
So, why not load up on assets & get a young piece for the defense? We’ve got a ton of picks & hopefully the roster gets built up as Prescott & Wentz get mega contracts.
nice theory that trade was compelled by OBJ's actions, again speculation.
Mara also ignored Kevin Gilbride's recommendation to upgrade the OLIne. OLine deteriorated, and in turn the team. Then Mara complained abut the offense being broken. Point being - Mara's judgement not always sound.
That we got fleeced by Cleveland. Next to the definition of “haplesss” in the dictionary is their logo. Maybe Gettleman will trade me his car for this pint I found in my pocket.
Keyshawn Johnson? Eagles gave up nothing for TO. Antonio Brown?
Where are all these massive hauls for WR’s?
If you don’t get a massive haul for your best, 27 year old player, maybe you keep him? Brown was holding out. The two scenarios were no where near the same.

Because I'm pretty sure Beckham has more than one season left in his career.
Believes Giants made a good deal, not only in the return, but addition by subtraction
I don’t get your point. He seemed genuine in stating Gettleman did the correct thing. Is it your opinion that all his takes on this team have an anti Giants bias?
Of course he does. Did he say that with a straight face?
We knew who we re-signed last year. Beckham was the same person last year that he'd been since 2014.
I have a problem with the timing of the trade. Trade him last year and this is a win for NY. Trade him last night? It's a terrible allotment of resources. Talk yourself into whatever is needed to get through the day.. I get it. This was a loss for NY. We lost that trade.

That's what's most appalling about all of this. They could have had the same return then, except without the huge cap hit or taking the risk that Beckham might not have returned the same from injury.
The Gettleman apologists just figure him doing something stupid, then following it up with something else stupid as a correction is somehow admirable because it shows he doesn't dwell on his mistakes, as if there's no penalty for having made them in the first place.

We shall see. I prefer to see how the draft and the rest of FA pans out

If we traded him last year, he would have been worth less because of his contract situation.
We do not know what the other offers were from the other teams IF ANY. I keep seeing the word "fleeced" thrown around.
The market determines the value.. not the fans. If another team was negotiating with the Giants at any time and for a price better than what Cleveland was offering, we would have taken it.
Fans want to simply look at the guys talent and potential while ignoring everything else. Teams look at the entire picture when making huge decisions like this. There were likely very few teams willing to...
A. Give up a lot for Odell
B. Willing to take on that contract
C. Willing to accept the circus that would come with it.
Not sure why some people cannot see that and how that ultimately plays into the offers that we do and don't get for Odell.
And waiting to hear from Shurmur, have to watch his body language to try and guess if he was all in
but I did love the idea of them fixing that right tackle spot and seeing what Barkley and OBj could do together.
Brown was trying to kake up ground for a 6th round 1st contract. And he had already had a full career.
OBJ got a big payday first go around and certainly didn't want to retire at 26 or 27.

But, there are things that went on that we don't know about about.
Still, the Giants needed to keep him one more year if you are keeping Eli.
Of course he does. Did he say that with a straight face?
