Is everyone on the trade block Dave Gettleman?

Jints in Carolina : 3/13/2019 7:52 am

BURN. IT. ALL. DOWN.

I am fine with it. We didn't win with all these guys. This thing needs to be burned down and totally rebuilt. My next guess is Eli will be cut. There is no reason for him to be on this team. We are in full rebuild mode and you don't do that with a 38 year old QB.

Flame away!
Just do whatever it takes to get a top 3 pick next year

Tough to understand why 30 and 31-year-old Jenoris Jenkins will be making nearly 15M a year on a rebuilding team.

I'm sure he'll be a ball of sunshine next year.
If Eli's not out, then it's time to admit that these guys
jcn56 : 3/13/2019 7:55 am : link
have no fucking clue what they're doing.

But as I've said all along - if you're standing by and hoping the Giants won't do something stupid, prepare to be disappointed.

That time was long ago. Last night’s weak ass return clinched it for me. Gettleman’s “legacy” to me will always be he was the guy who got butt fucked in the Beckham trade.

This. I am still upset that they traded away Odell, but this has to result in getting Fromm or Tua next year.
I can understand if you''re mad
MBavaro : 3/13/2019 8:03 am : link
a great player is gone, but I can't understand why people are clamoring this is a bad trade and hurts the team.

What the hell have you been seeing the past 5+ seasons that tells you a player such as him, although great, is a large part of the answer. Notice, I'm not saying he was a large part of the problem either.

A 1st, 3rd, and Peppers is a solid deal in this market.

However, they NEED to hit on their picks this year.

Something, something Kansas City Chiefs model

but ultimately it's madness to pay $17m to Eli out of sentiment when you can put a cheap shit stopgap in place save the bulk of the money towards next year.
DG made the statement

some time back, that everyone is available for the right price except Saquon

100% we don't win the big one with odell and we don't win it without him
We still have a few decent players on this team,
Simms11 : 3/13/2019 8:15 am : link
Is this the worst roster in the NFL? Cards might have taken that honor, however, they just signed some decent players. This is looking like a tank job. If DG uses both firsts now to move up a take Haskins, this board will absolutely melt!
one thing is for sure

Eli Manning
Tim in Eternal Blue : 3/13/2019 8:25 am : link
will apparently be QB until 2030. Maybe Barkley is safe.
Thats what cracks me up around here

Now listen I was stunned when I first heard last night and I'm not overwhelmed with the return (Though its not bad) but you've had doom and gloom central around here complaining for years about how the roster has turned to shit and we suck and that Gettleman has no plan. Well he's decided to do what so many said he should- blow things up and start over and do what the Knicks did in the Porzingis trade and people are still killing him and ready to burn their jersey collection. Essentially this trade did net 2 #1's as Peppers was a #1 in 2017 and I don't think anyone would dispute that he he as definitely played up to the level of the 25th pick.

All the players he traded for and drafted I believe are safe. So less then 10 players.

The question is what can you get for Jenkins. He should net a 3rd. He is way cheaper to another team, especially a contending team then a FA. He can still play as well.

I was stunned last night and then I started getting texts and calls. Talked to John in charlotte and when you step back - the return isn't great, but it isn't terrible either.

However, if they don't release Eli, I'm not sure what purpose these moves will have made. That is going to have to be a piece of the rebuild. I just hope they don't package picks and trade up to get a QB in this draft.
The 2 players on the roster to tackle
DavidinBMNY : 3/13/2019 8:35 am : link
Jenkins and Manning.
Manning - release him - let him play in Miami
Jenkins - Consider trading him now if return is right, and if not trade him at the deadline to a needy team.
grab a QB in round 2
bc4life : 3/13/2019 8:36 am : link
or later rounds or wait till next year.

I guess you can also add Ellison - given his cap savings as a player who could go. Not sure it's worth it, but I wouldn't be shocked seeing him dealt or released either.
Everyone SHOULD be on the trade block...

because there is always a price.

Everything in my house is for sale including the house if you want something badly enough

I am full support of them going full Knicks with this OBJ trade, but doing it and keeping Eli on the roster is weird - like if the Knicks still had Melo on the current team.
Didn't Gettleman say
Scott in Montreal : 3/13/2019 9:16 am : link
Sometime last year during a press conference that everyone except Barkley could be traded. I Am sure I read that here.

No reason why all players shouldn't be on the block IMHO. If the deal is good and it makes the Giants better. So be it. Are there risks sure, but that is part of it.

As for the OBJ trade. I think Cleveland may regret it.
This is how I see it.
1- Baker Mayfield is not that good.
2- Hunt, Chubb( less so), Landry and OBJ are all great players, but all have that prima Donna attitude and want the ball all the time.
3- Only one ball one the field. Spreading it out is easier said than done
4- #3 will directly conflict with #2 and will cause a whole lot of tension.
5- The Browns coach is green does not have the demeanor to fix #4
6- The team is going to implode.

You've read it here enough times, and I'm afraid it'll come true. The Giants believe they can both rebuild and remain somewhat competitive while they do so. That's why they'll keep Eli.

Similar to what the Knicks had been doing before they embraced the full tank. Sadly, the Knicks didn't figure it out until the NBA adjusted their lottery process.
