It’s time for COREY COLEMAN...

5BowlsSoon : 3/13/2019 9:02 am
to rise up and play like the first round pick he was drafted to become. If by some chance this could happen, we may not miss OBJ as much.

Wide receivers often take two years to mature, so maybe there is hope, right? Or is he really a hopeless cause?

For the record, I’m moving forward now, not sulking anymore. I’m a GIANTS fan and root for my team. Guys like Peppers and Coleman are part of my team. OBJ isn’t anymore. I wish him well in Cleveland but I wish Coleman even more success in NY.
Just to refresh memories

Coleman caught five passes last year for 71 yards.

He was also released by the Bills whose best receiver at the time was Zay Jones.
Wow some of you

Coleman’s best case scenario...
Chris in Philly : 3/13/2019 9:07 am : link
is Ted Ginn.
And by the Patriots

And you know, if the Pats can't get through to someone, then it's perfectly reasonable to expect the Giants to succeed where BB failed.
I’ve not given up on him
5BowlsSoon : 3/13/2019 9:10 am : link
I know some of you will look at the negative but is it realistic to give up on a guy so young who came out with so much promise? He was injured two years in a row that stunted his growth you know.
Time?
jeff57 : 3/13/2019 9:11 am : link
Don't throw him the clock because he'll probably drop it.
Coleman
AcidTest : 3/13/2019 9:12 am : link
is a kick returner, and backup WR. He's had problems with drops, injuries, and route running. I'm not expecting much.

agreed, but his opportunities were limited in a short amount of time. He definitely flashed as a returner....its possible they have something here. As you know, it takes some people 3 years + to figure it out.
I'm wondering if Giants take a look in free agency
Andy in Boston : 3/13/2019 9:13 am : link
at Pats WR Chris Hogan....he's a solid player.
Question
5BowlsSoon : 3/13/2019 9:14 am : link
Was he not an elite college player? So why can’t he grow to be such in the nfl?

I still remember Amani Toomer. We wanted him crucified after two years. Look what he then did.

They didn't really try to get through to him. IIRC, they picked him up off waivers and then cut him 1-2 weeks later after trading for Josh Gordon. And they also had Edelman returning from suspension.

I think you will see a change in how the WR corps is structured. Gettlemen likes big WR's- Funches and Benjamin were picks of his. I think EE moves outside more andfills that big role but Metcalfe could be that WR. He looks like a Julio Jones again..

Not going to make people forget about OBJ, but Ginn has had a decent career as a WR since leaving MIA & SF.

From 2013-17 he averaged 40 rec 600 yds and 4.5 TDs per year while averaging over 15 yards/rec. That's good production for a 3rd WR and if the Giants can turn a waiver wire pickup into that, I'd be thrilled.
Love the positivity from the OP
Dinger : 3/13/2019 10:07 am : link
Odds are against Coleman. But also note the Giants won two superbowls with the likes of Steve Smith, Toomer, David Tyree, Burress, Manningham, cruz, nicks, etc. These guys were made better because a QB had time to pass to them. Whether its Eli Rosen or whomever, even the GOAT WR cant be successful if the QB can't get him the ball.
he'd be hell

It's hard to take your thread seriously when you make a statement like this.

There are literally thousands of football players that were "elite" in college, but were scrubs in the NFL that had very short careers.

I'm hoping for the best regarding Coleman. But the Giants are his 4th or 5th team. It's highly unlikely that he's going to become even an average WR.
LOL
Jay on the Island : 3/13/2019 10:40 am : link
I like Coleman as a returner but he has proven nothing at WR. It would be incredible if he all of a sudden became a solid starting WR but the chances of that are slim.

They didn't really try to get through to him?

Does Belichick strike you as the kind of guy you'd say that about?

Sounds a lot more like 'this is the best we can do for the next couple of weeks, and after that this guy is out of here'.

They took a flyer on him for a week, then a better option (Gordon) fell in their lap.

Yup. I expect a WR early in this draft.
Go back and watch him on Hard Knocks
Heisenberg : 3/13/2019 11:11 am : link
and see that he's kind of a knucklehead. If he is a contributor at all aside from the return game, I'll be shocked.
