What do you think happens at QB?

AcidTest : 3/13/2019 9:08 am
I said last night that I thought the OBJ trade increases the chance that Lock will be taken at #6. But I think that's wrong. I think Gettleman will instead try and fix everything but QB this year, and also next year in FA when he'll have a ton of money. He'll then be less concerned about giving up draft capital to move up and take a QB. I think the Giants will only take a QB this year if someone really falls to the point where it's just too much to pass up. And although I would prefer they do so, I don't think the Giants will trade for Rosen.
Eli is going to play this year....

and we will draft one next year. Same thing that happened before the trade.

That's my thinking too.

Use the two 1's and the 2nd to get three top players and wait till next year to get the QB and a much better one than available now as well IMO.
Tua Fromm or Herbert
Chip : 3/13/2019 9:14 am : link
would be the right move.
I think we will build up the team with the draft this year
ryanmkeane : 3/13/2019 9:15 am : link
have 80M in cap space next year and continue to use that to build the team, then trade into the top 5 to get a QB
They'll spend $23M on Eli this season and end up sub 500
jcn56 : 3/13/2019 9:15 am : link
draft a middling QB in the mid 1st, early 2nd, and we'll basically have Dave Brown redux.
We need extra draft picks in 2020
George from PA : 3/13/2019 9:17 am : link
To move up for QB..for Oregon or Clemson kids
We go 4-12 or worse
The_Boss : 3/13/2019 9:17 am : link
And draft Fromm next spring.

Lawrence is 2021.
I think he waits til next season
joeinpa : 3/13/2019 9:46 am : link
I ve gone back and fooon this. But I think I m swayed by wanting the new guy here.

After yesterday, I think he s waiting.
I think they draft one this year
BIGbluegermany : 3/13/2019 9:49 am : link
But I hope they trade for Rosen
if eli is under center...
peteschweaty : 3/13/2019 9:52 am : link
and the gmen are sitting around 1-6...met life will be one dark place.
Eli will be there at LEAST 2 more years....
Tesla : 3/13/2019 9:53 am : link
possibly 3 or more. Just look at what Brady can do at 41, plus Shurmur told us last year the Eli was the fittest 38 y.o. on the planet.

Thanks goodness we finally have the cap space to extend him.
I think they play out the season either with Eli or someone else,
shockeyisthebest8056 : 3/13/2019 9:55 am : link
then try to do an Eli trade into the top 3 if they're not already there.
Giants pay the $5M Bonus

Wait until next year—the mantra of the Knicks and Rangers—is just harder to accept. Guess I have no choice as it is too late to find another team after 40 years of rooting for the Giants. Eli needs to leave for the good of the team and for his own good. I hate the thought of watching and listening to him get booed mercilessly next year through a season that will have less to do with him and more about the ineptitude of Giants management and ownership.
We
Mr. Nickels : 3/13/2019 10:50 am : link
wont have the ammo to get the QB next year unless the plan is to suck. This is why you needed a 1st rounder next year from Beckham too.
Might as well wait til next year at this point.
bceagle05 : 3/13/2019 10:52 am : link
We have 12 picks I believe - it should be the "infrastructure" draft, even though media pinheads will bitch and moan about it.
Eli this year - Rosen next
PatersonPlank : 3/13/2019 10:52 am : link
I think we bundle our 2nd and 3rd, or possibly our #17, for Rosen soon
No clue
AcesUp : 3/13/2019 10:56 am : link
You would think carrying a 38yr old QB at 23M wouldn't be consistent with trading away a Hall of Famer and letting your All Pro safety walk while allocating 20% of your cap to dead money...but what do I know?
I think they draft Daniel Jones at 17 and sit him this year
Go Terps : 3/13/2019 10:59 am : link
That's a terrible plan, but that would be my guess.
Eli absolutely needs to be gone...
bw in dc : 3/13/2019 11:01 am : link
Starting him is a complete waste of time, especially now in light of this OBJ trade, and cap space.

So I think the QB solution should still be evolving. I would suggest:

A. Definitely draft a QB this year in round 2
B. Trade for a QB (Driskel), and play him
C. If not B, play Lauletta as the starter
D. If not B or C, go with A right away
E. Keep Lauletta as back-up or Tanney or find QB on market

Russell Wilson
Rong5611 : 3/13/2019 11:02 am : link
They'll flip the #6 pick to Seattle, perhaps the 2nd rd pick and a conditional pick next year...and get Wilson.

Cut Eli, sign a RT.

Not likely, but one can dream.

That would really offset all of the good work done this past 16 hours.
I just don't get

why Rivers and Big Ben aren't getting shown the door but people think Eli is done? Eli had zero line. Tough to play football that way and still did decent. I think Eli is the Giants QB for the whole year and puts up numbers.
Posted Last Nite, Eli Should Retire
clatterbuck : 3/13/2019 11:44 am : link
rather than take the unwarranted abuse as the Giants wallow through an awful season. He won't be here if/when the rebuilding is completed. Let Tanney/Lauletta/Tannehill/Bortles/Fitzpatrick/Taylor/ take the hits waiting for the smoke to clear on the grand design.
Is there any comparison of QB's performance
Jeever : 3/13/2019 11:56 am : link
based on time of possession? The reason I ask is our defense was incapable of getting off the field last year. I'd like to see the Giants concentrate on the defensive side of the ball in this draft as much as possible.
Eli restructure
montanagiant : 3/13/2019 11:57 am : link
With 1-2 years added to contract
Sign T Williams
Eli plays this year.
Red Dog : 3/13/2019 12:08 pm : link
They draft somebody NEXT spring.

Eli may or may not stick around for 2020, but I would not bet against it. Even 2021 isn't out of the question for Eli.
Hopefully not Rosen or Lock.
732NYG : 3/13/2019 1:00 pm : link
Would be happy with Murray, Haskins, or one of the 2020 QBs.
2020 all the way
Bill L : 3/13/2019 1:11 pm : link
I think Eli is probably gone and I go back and forth between him being here this year or going with Lauletta. In the end, I don't think it makes much difference. I don't think that they're committed to using the money saved this year. Laulaetta would be preferable because he lets them get closer to Fromm. In no way on earth do I want any part of Haskins, Rosen or even Murray. I get that a turkey in the hand is better than a golden goose in the bush to some but I think that if we are taking the trouble to set up the best team all-around, it's worth the patience to get the elite QB as well.
Eli gets a bridge extension creating some more cap room
Torrag : 3/13/2019 1:13 pm : link
Then we'll either Draft one this year or next and Elijah will retire when the new guy wins the job. Totally normal non dramataic stuff that happens in the NFL every year. Which BBI will blow out of all proportion for no good reason...because that's what happens here to my neverending amusement.
fwiw Ralph V thinks that the Giants won't add years to Eli's deal.

There's a decent chance the Giants will draft his eventual replacement either with the sixth or 17th pick in the upcoming draft. They could also trade for Arizona quarterback Josh Rosen, a Top 10 pick from a year ago who may be available if the Cardinals decide to take Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray No. 1 overall.

There's also a chance the Giants will go in another direction and wait to select their Quarterback of the Future until the 2020 draft. That seems less likely, but if it happens the Giants would likely still move on from Manning at the end of the season and bring in a low-cost veteran to be a placeholder until the rookie quarterback is ready to go.
