that means adding a year to his contract and moving some of his salary to next season. Why not just continue to eat the cap hit for this year (which is basically over before it even begins) and then start fresh next year with all the dead money gone, a new young core, and then either a young QB from this year's or next year's draft? Extending Eli for another year just seems like a horrendous decision so I'm not sure why I see so many people advocating for this.
And if by "restructure" you meant Eli should take a pay cut...yea, not happening.
Usually its done as a way to make the team more competitive this year in FA. By getting rid of one of their top offensive players for draft picks the giants are signaling they are going to rebuild via the draft and may not be competitive this year.
IMO, this Beckham trade was an indication Eli will be cut before Sunday.
the argument for extending him is that we will have a lot more cap room next year to absorb dead money when they cut him or he retires. This lowers his cap # this year when we are limited in cap space.
My guess is, if we see him extended it is only bc there is a specific free agent that DG feels we need this year.
A paycut would be necessary, but all indications seem to point towards the Giants not asking for one (and who knows if Eli would take it).
Just let him play out his contract. There's nothing to look forward to on this team this year other than Eli's retirement talk and watching Saquon.

I dont think so and he also has a no trade clause. Another mistake by Reese.
Because he's the guy we are rebuilding around.

why have Eli at all?
Teams don’t rebuild around an ancient QB.
