"My wife works for a news station in NY and she just heard from the higher ups that the giants are planning to release Eli next week. Let's see what happens"
I personally dont see this happening, but there u go.
Last thing I want is some scrub running the offense.
Being a fan, trading OBJ took away a major reason for watching the team, although I understand the move.
Cutting Eli to simply tank would really be tough - as a fan - to take.
Majority of this community thinks Eli is shot and the Giants will probably blow this season anway......what are we really going to do with his extra salary savings? What really is out there?
I'd only cut Eli if they are taking a QB in Round 1, or acquiring Josh Rosen.
person reporting may not be aware that the Giants have to release Eli before Sunday to avoid paying his $5M roster bonus. But that doesn't mean they won't release him. It certainly makes the most sense. I nonetheless don't think they will, but I also never thought they'd trade Beckham.

You are not paying a 38 year old QB 23 million dollars so drive this shitty car.
RE: Don't see how you could go with Tanney or Laudetta Â
If they were going to release him, by what day do they have to do it avoid paying the $5 Million roster bonus? is it Friday 15th by 4pm or Saturday 16th by 4pm?
This rumor of next week by the OP is fake news, if they are doing it, it is by one of those 2 days, not next week.

The "Next Week" could just be a technicality error... The meat is that the Giants will be releasing Eli.
Dont see it when DG and PS both said they want to bring a young guy to learn under Eli. Giants usually dont go back on what they say (unless something happens where the player does something to change their mind like Odell).
Why the fuck not? We need to keep Eli so we win 5 games next year instead of 2? Just enough to ensure we don't got Tua or Fromm?
Those guys aren't NFL QBs. I don't mean they aren't Franchise QBs. They are mediocre even as backups.
But we are not trying to win this year so why does it matter if we have a competent QB or not? Willing 2 games and getting Tua would be a HELL lot better than winning 5 games and missing out on him.
I understand that the Russell Wilson rumors (or whatever they are) Â
Wilson to the Giants trade rumor be something that has legs? I mean if we did do that we can sit on the drafting a QB for 1 and possibly 2 years.
Not saying I believe it but, today's NFL is far different than years past. Trades happen a LOT. If the Giants gave up 6 and their 3rd pick for Wilson (probably a conditional pick next year) then we could be on to something..
RE: i disagree it's the best thing you can do... Â

How much more will the Giants get with $23 million Eli compared to say a $10 million vet? Hell, they could have had Keenum for $3.5 million and Shurmur knows him as well as anyone. That is a massive cap savings and it doesn’t preclude the Giants from drafting a QB early. That should have been the move if cutting Eli.
At this stage, I’m all for Barkley taking this year off. He is going to take a pounding for absolutely nothing. Seriously, the Giants has better be damn careful about running their centerpiece into the ground.

Seriously??? We are building an oline and you are afraid for Barkley? Ummm, he is safer now than before. Please can we bring the drama down a tad? The Giants will not stand pat with what they have at WR and they could possibly have some deal for a QB in place already..
I'll bet conversations of some sort have happened with his agent. Â
Nothing has happened and I'm sure by now his agent has been asking. Nothing would surprise me at this point. They may be renegotiating his last year $. But honestly I wouldn't be surprised by anything.
Would it have been worth it to try out the offense with Rosen/Saquon/Odell/Shep/Engram?
Still on the defensive side of the ball we're behind and we probably still aren't a contender. But would it have been worth a shot? That offense sounds exciting...on paper.
RE: Whether you want Rosen or not. Heres a question Â

If the Giants did get Rosen for that pick they could use the 6th pick on Montz Sweat. Then with the 17th pick they could use it on either DK Metcalf, Cody Ford, Andre Dillard, etc. If Rosen was added they would also need to add a veteran WR with Tate and Tyrell Williams being my top two targets.

I get that. my question is, would it have been worth it to keep Odell with Rosen? Obviously holding constant that the giants get rosen for the 37th pick.

IMO yes but only if he wanted to be here.
I understand the "KC method" & keeping Eli around to mentor Â
a young QB but not at this price.I love Eli but he's never made any move to give back money to improve the team. He's taken every dollar-which is his right. But,it's also the Giants right to cut him.If we could cut Phil Simms,we can cut Eli!
RE: After the OBJ trade, I am betting we have Rosen lined up Â
probably for the #17 pick we just got or maybe our 2nd and the 3rd we just got.
Seriously? You think they (the FO) has some kind of master plan lined up like Bobby Fischer's Queen sacrifice that earned him the US Chess title at age 14?
Let s see if this story gets legs between now and then.
Sign Williams and Pierre Desir.
Agreed. I'll be mildly surprised if it isn't today.

Well DG says stuff... "We didnt sign him to trade him"
$23M is a lot to pay a tutor.
That only applies to this year's guys since none of them are ready to start right away. Next year's guys will be... in theory.

Lol, they weren’t signing Eli over Foles.

The second should be enough. Arizona has to trade him.
