anyone hear Anita Marks on ESPN radio last night?

OdellBeckhamJr : 3/13/2019 11:30 am
She’s saying this all happened because of Pat Shurmur.

The old regime, Reese, Ross and Coughlin covered for OBJ as much as possible with all his antics and that bled into McAdoo doing the same, but Pat Shurmur isn’t having any of it. Beckham has ruled the roost for too long.

He stuck his neck out for Odell when the franchise wanted to move on from him last season. That Eagles game where OBJ walked out before half time Odell told Shurmur, “fuck you” twice. He told the media he needed an IV.

She mentioned Pat told the media at the combine he’s looking for players that respect the coach and that they get along.

She then said the Giants are more committed to Pat Shurmur being head coach of the Giants than Odell being the star wideout.

anyway, I found it interesting and I agree with the move now, no player is bigger than the team.
Shurmur

Odell could have been an asshole, he was well liked though, it really is pointless to listen to any of it at this point. Like Beckham or hate him it seems like a shitty trade to me. How are we any better since Gettleman took over?

Yup - remember Plax? It's only after he shot himself that all of a sudden he was a gun toting lunatic running around the streets of NYC opening fire on passing vehicles.

and it likely turned out both things were true. Odell did go in for IV's - but he also made a statement by doing so going in early. Missing the final 4 games is what shouldn't be overlooked here.

By the way - this isn't a usual MO of the team. They don't go on bad-mouthing their former players.

That was such bullshit and it was disgusting how many people bought into it. He is beyond cringeworthy.

Correct. But people are blinded by the talent.

Do i think we got enough? Absolutely not. Could we have gotten more? Probably not. I think we were committed to trading him and this was the best we could get. I don't think OBJ coming back was a realistic option and i'm sure more of that will come out.
Even if Shurmur ends up getting replaced in a year or two
Scuzzlebutt : 3/13/2019 11:39 am : link
you can not have the star of your team disrespecting the coach (and the team in general). You let that go unchecked and it becomes a free for all... and then you end up with something like Macadoo's second year.
I remember a few posters

Seems like Shurmur is a discipline guy but also liked by most players. He tried hard with Odell and Odell as usual is one of those guys that's never content or happy being treated like a man and communicated with. So happy we are done coddling this bi-polar lil bitch. See ya Odell thanks for partying before your 1 fucking playoff game and being ineffective in that one game that mattered most in your brief history as a Giant.

Exactly...It hurt Coughlin too. The fighting with Norman during the game and TC not pulling him out was mystical. Too many things for too long a period.
I have had

He absolutely went in for IV's. Verified by several people I know.

It also doesn't preclude him from yelling at the coach as he goes in for them.

I think there was probably more behind the scenes stuff we have no idea about. I hate to say it but good riddance and I am glad the trade took place.
Time to move on and rebuild this Giants team.
Agree with Bradshaw on this
Bluesbreaker : 3/13/2019 11:45 am : link
No one player is bigger than the team OBJ popularity
certainly made it a difficult task to move on from him.
It's Barkleys team now the offense will be built around
him who has his head on straight and an equally great
talent . OBJ gave us some thrills for sure and its
tough to see him go and I wish him the best .
We have 12 draft picks to use to rebuild . I trust DG
with this rebuild . The draft can't come soon enough
And again
mittenedman : 3/13/2019 11:45 am : link
when you consider the Giants wanted Odell off the team...

...the fact that they also get a 1st, 3rd and Peppers for it is a fucking coup.

Knowing DG & Mara, I have zero doubt they would've cut him for nothing if they could.

He's toxic. They were done with him.

JCN, I disagree here about the "spin" you are saying. Jay Glazer reported the same thing saying Shurmur defended OBJ last offeseason because he felt he could get OBJ's buyin. The interview, the bs about IV's, the "injury" etc. all led to his last remaining supporter to say this is done.
Great player or not, OBJ was an embarrasment.
RobCrossRiver56 : 3/13/2019 11:52 am : link
He's a "me" first player. I posted several times that Barkley's ascension was going to affect OBJ one way or another and it did. The Giants appear to be embracing the power run game and a receiver like OBJ is not needed to accomplish that.

As a fan I turned on OBJ when..He fake peed like a dog on the field, Had a romance with a kicking net and finally when he pulled a Cam Newton during the onside kick, I have seen enough him. Good Luck in Cleveland..

It's just common sense that something was going on that the team just couldn't put up with. It doesn't really matter what that was now that he's gone. I remember how the Giants had to get rid of Shockey.

except when he carried the team to the playoffs in 2016. I think the comparison to Deion Sanders is fair - Deion spent five years on bad teams in Atlanta and went on to 2 Super Bowls. Both immensely talented and intense superstars with huge egos and potential for drama.
