That's what is driving me crazy about this whole thing. Even with Eli at the helm.
In the modern NFL you need an offense first and foremost.
So we could have had an excellent line that could block and OBJ getting double or triple covered, Saquon would have had a monstrous year.
Now we have no passing threat. Shep is a slot guy. I like EE, but he's only good for a couple of plays a game.
The box is going to be stacked constantly against us and SB is going to have to carry the team even more than last year.
We haven't been remotely competitive in a very long time. Remove the 2016 season and we have been a disaster. It just would have been nice to have a complete offense. It feels like we took a Giant step backward on Offense, and the defense is still a complete disaster.
Not hard for any QB to manage game with SB and throw when the box fills..We will pick up a good WR imo..He doesn’t have to be OBJ..Who is?
How long are we going to wait until the Offense is completely rebuilt? We were 1 piece AWAY. 1 piece.
Now we are multiple pieces away.

The defense needs a ton of help. It needs like 4 or 5 major pieces.
We were 1 piece away from having a really elite offense even with Eli at half speed.
That's my feeling. We have been trying to rebuild the offense for like 4 years.
Now we have taken multiple steps back as an entire team.

and depth at CB are far bigger needs than RT. Keeping Odell and adding a RT does not make the Giants a playoff contender. Their defense is in bad shape.

Wait and see the finished product.
This. Now if they go crazy today in FA I will be very puzzled and concerned about the Giants future.

I can't wait for you to disappear. I know you're a troll just wish you would out yourself sooner rather than later.
How. We actually have the right pieces on offense. I'm not saying we would be in the Super Bowl this year. We went from being a team that could probably score on anyone with the new O-line to a huge question mark.
Yes it was a small sample size (5 games w/o Odell) but with Barkley and the OL starting to gel they did pretty well.

This is the same thinking that led us here to begin with.

The defense is terrible right now. We aren't competing with anyone with a unit that bad. This repeated way of "going for it" rather than just committing to more of a rebuild is what keeps kicking the fucking can down the road and prolonging all of these issues.
I'm getting the impression that they didn't feel they had much choice with Beckham anyway.
Going 7-9 this year isn't going to help us fix this.

The defense was always going to be terrible this upcoming season. It doesn’t have 1 pass rusher on it. No one has expectations of winning a Super Bowl next year.

So what are we keeping Beckham for? A 7-8 win season?
Where's that get us?

The Chief's defense blew, but somehow they lit the league up last year. If anything they showed you don't have to have a defense to go very far in the NFL anymore.
Look the defense needs a ton of work. We could have had something special on offense, but now we got mehh
Absolutely Arc.
That was to BBDtS ^^^
Instead - they took one of the biggest playmakers away from that side of the field, and incurred a huge cap hit in the process.
So now, it's dysfunctional D and an offense that's likely to sputter. The worst part is it's not in the name of rebuilding, it's in a misguided attempt to win now.

One guy doesnt make the entire team. We can also pick up a WR in this draft to complement Barkley, Engram and Shepard.
You could have had something that when you get your QB he can just slide right into a Lambo instead of a Chevy Chivette.
Eli would have been good enough behind this new line.
I'm not even an Eli supporter, but I don't think he would have been quite as bad as he has been with the rebuilt line and 2 HOF playing with him.

Losing Odell might not hurt the offense as much as we think.
I didn't really see the same gear we were used to seeing in 2016 last year. He seemed to be working back up to it... but then he got hurt again.
And some of the whispers are starting to make me wonder if he did, in fact, bench himself at the end once the playoffs were a definite no-go and we knew that Week 17 was the end no matter what happened in the interim.
(Now, at the time, I recall the trainers saying he wasn't healthy enough to play - but I don't know if that's exactly how it happened or if that was the whole story or what)
What's clear to me is that Beckham signed the deal, and then whether it was what I'm alluding to above, the ESPN thing, or other stuff - he just managed to piss them off and make them decide he was never going to "get it" - and everyone was in agreement and willing to sign off on moving him.
I wanted it to work out for him here in a big way. I loved watching him play. I was a huge fan. Everyone knows that. But even I was upset with him for the ESPN thing because it was just such a facepalm moment like... are you really going to do this now?
No one is bigger than the team.
Yup. I heard this same thing the last 7 off seasons.
We need a new team, not one piece.

He gets double and triple covered and he still puts up fantastic numbers.
This fucking spin about not being explosive is unbelievable. Maybe if you didn't smoke as much pot as you have admitted you would see things a little more clear.
Stay classy, brother. I'm out.

I don't see how you can look at OBj last year and NOT think he lost that 2nd gear. Still a great player but it was pretty clear to my eyes that he did not have the afterburners he had before the injury. Maybe he gets that back to some degree, but if he doesn't it becomes a good trade (or even better depending on your perspective).
Look I am an OBj fan. But if the FO soured on him and he was hurting the overall cohesion of the team, and you can definitely make that case w/o being privy to the details based on the histrionics, it's as easy to argue for this trade.
Everyone relax. We needed this.
The claims that we have already seen the best there will be are inconsistent with the historical development of athletically gifted players without fatal flaws.
