Losing Odell Beckham will be incredibly painful for Giants fans. Even when the team was dogshit, he made them relevant. Yes, fans want to win, but there’s also something to be said for employing players so exciting that they singlehandedly make games worth watching. “Don’t quit on talent,” might be one way to express that sentiment.
Beckham making great catches didn't make losing more enjoyable. In fact, I found it comical that the highlight of the Giants.com twitter feed was Beckham's pre-game one-handed catch warm-ups. Who the fuck cares about that? Win the game.

So, now the highlights will be ok Barkley’s runs while their giants lose. Just like last year. Awesome.
Generally speaking and sans the trolls, BBIers know 10x more about the Giants than anyone in the media, except for perhaps Garafolo and of course, Papa..
They know squat about what really goes on at bw Central or what injuries certain players are continually hit with. That’s at least 10x more than tge media and we still know very little.

I wouldn't look at it like that, I'd look at it the way you view Barkley - he had the potential to change any game in a single play.
That hope now falls entirely onto Barkley.
A lot of young kids are tossing their Giants jerseys Â

Oh I agree with you there, I doubt anyone thinks a fun player/highlight warm-ups are preferable to winning games -- but if the wins aren't coming either way? At least with Odell you have a chance to make something happen out of nowhere.
The first thing my father said when I texted him last night was "how the hell are we going to even watch this team next year?"
If jtgiants is correct - right or wrong - the Giants still don't consider themselves in rebuilding mode.
If they did, then it is obvious they delayed the rebuild one year unnecessarily.
If they don't see themselves rebuilding, then there is no other explanation than they simply thought Beckham was toxic.
I think jt is right - and once again, that the Giants have horribly miscalculated their roster and their prospects.
Which is why so many say they have no plan - it's not that there's no plan, just that the plan sucks. In the end, that's every bit as bad as having no plan at all.

Is they cared too much what the fans thought and let emotions rule them. With Beckham gone and Eli gone in a year...if not sooner. Hopefully, rationality will return.

What about all the games in 2016 Beckham basically won for us? The Dallas game we won 10-7? Those were sure enjoyable to me.
Completely agree with this comment on Giants drafting Â
up Odell's one-handed catch, my friend who is a Cowboys fan gives me shit:
"Yeah? Who won that game"
It is true..
In general, we seem to care more here in Giant land about things that really dont matter. Statistics...whether a player will make the HOF. Ruining Eli's career, etc
In the end, it is just about winning and I really dont care who is on the roster when that happens.
There is a reason why I do not own a Giants jersey anymore. it is not because I don't like the team but instead because I do not care to fall in love with any particular player. I came CLOSE to getting a Landon Collins jersey two years ago... lol
I know we get sick of talking about it but the Pats have it right. The only one who stays is the franchise QB. Everyone else is just a cog that they are not emotionally tied to.

"The Catch" really came to typify his time here. Goes for something like 10 for 146 and a truly remarkable TD catch...in a game the team lost.
Now I'm not saying that loss or any of the teams struggles are all on him. But something clearly wasn't working. For all his magic this has been a pretty awful team since he arrived. You can (and should) blame that on the management and ownership. You can probably point to places they could have done things differently or better. And you can say the same for Beckham. But in the end this just wasn't working. Sometimes the best option still kinda sucks. But I do really feel like going forward, over the next 5 years, this gives the Giants a better chance to be a good football team. Now there are plenty of other things they've gotta do, and they've gotta do all of them damn near perfectly.

There has been nothing enjoyable about watching the Giants for years. If it weren't for the off field shit Beckham would be completely forgettable.

There were people on this site that wished for the Giants to lose the final game against the Skins in 2006 so TC would be fired. They won, and then lost in the playoffs to Philly. The next year, TC won the first of two Lombardi trophies.

If they did, then it is obvious they delayed the rebuild one year unnecessarily.

I think it's all semantics at this point. What the Giants are doing is literally a rebuild. In one year, Gettleman has turned over the entire roster. With Collins and Odell gone, I think there are only 13 guys left on the entire roster who were inherited from 2017. They have 12 draft picks coming up (or whatever the number is). The only constant, is Eli. So is Eli the difference between rebuilding or not? That seems to be the barometer. But looking at what is actually going on, it's a rebuild. What I think Mara and the Giants get angry at is a "tank". Mara has said he never wants to tank. So in his mind, the Giants will try to win as they rebuild. They won't do what the Dolphins appear to be doing this year and the Jets did a couple of years ago and back up the truck, or hell even what Cleveland did.
The Giants will never actually try to lose games. But they have put a bad product on the field that has naturally done that.

not have made losing less enjoyable for us, but he was the main reason that little kids continued to watch. One of the most electrifying players in the league was actually on our team. Every kid knows who he is. They are the ones that are going to feel it the most (along with Mara's pockets).

RE: A lot of young kids are tossing their Giants jerseys Â
We did this to ourselves, no, actually Mara did it to us by being soft and hiring DG.
Are we supposed to care about the whims of children and jersey sales? I'm almost 40 years old and it's such an insignificant team financial matter, if I cared about that shit I'd kill myself.
If you're distracted by shiny things, good for you. Beckham must have been great.
I didn't give a shit, because the team was terrible. You know which team is my favorite of all time in any sport? The 1990 Giants. I remember more about that team's games than any game the Giants have played in the past 6 years.
The 1990 Giants didn't have much in the way of shiny things, but they did win games.
Did anyone really expect to read anything positive Â
and I've seen this sentiment expressed by some posers here too. But I'm having trouble believing this "the team’s biggest obstacle to contention: its aging, ineffective quarterback"
I don't want to argue whether we should be replacing him this year or next or exactly how much he has fallen since his last super bowl. But I am pretty sure I've seen teams "contend" with QBs no better than ours.
