General Feelings within the Organization- Post Trade

BeckShepEli : 3/13/2019 12:08 pm
From a known Twitter user who has been point on things in the past: (His words not mine)

1) Pat Shurmur is NOT happy with the Odell trade. Was apparently advocating for weeks that he could handle coaching OBJ and thought the team handled the aftermath of the ESPN/Lil Wayne interview really well.

2) About that interview, ownership (Mara) was extremely disappointed about it. What hurt them the most was his lack of commitment to the organization. I mean, COME. ON. Absurd.

3) The organization is more torn than ever on the future of Eli Manning.

4) #NYG organization didn't reach out to any player about their feelings on Odell Beckham, not even Manning.
We've heard #1 alot

#1 flies in the face of what Jay Glazer said last night. I trust him as he called the trade possibility months ago.

#4- who gives a shit.. Players don't need to be consulted..
Eli Manning has no future.

More torn than ever? That's laughable if true.
Shurmur can't possibly be happy

There's no way this doesn't kill his career.

If anything, this buys Shurmur more leeway with management for the next few years. While I am sure he isn't happy about losing the player, I doubt it "kills his career". If he isn't successful in the next 3-5 years, it ain't going to be because of this trade.

Mara is weak and doesn't belong in this business.
My take on this...
EricJ : 3/13/2019 12:16 pm : link
#1 - Shurmur has to take this position to keep the respect of the players. They have to know their coach has their back. Smart decision on his part.

#2. I have been saying all along that Mara was pushing DG to make the trade

3-5 years? How long do you give Shurmur here?

Is he still the coach in 2 more seasons if the team still stinks?

If the team isn't any better and he's let go - given his lifetime record both here and Cleveland, you think he's ever going to be a HC ever again?

Make no mistake - barring some miracle, the OBJ trade essentially ended any chance of Shurmur ever being a successful HC.
Shurmur should be thrilled.

As Lionheart mentioned, this dismantling of the roster buys him a third year - nobody's better equipped to lose a ton of games than Pat Shurmur. Also, if the young QB selection gets kicked down the road, it also buys the "QB whisperer" more time to develop him. He may have gained an extra two years of job security last night.
All seem

Do you really think this is a good team in 2 years? Better sure, but good? I think Shurmur gets at least 3 years barring a complete lack of progress.

OBJ's presence didn't translate to wins, so I don't see this having a significant impact on Shurmur's career here. It simply buys him another year or 2 to figure out whether he can coach... That said, I am not sure whether he can or not.

Doesn't work this way. If the team loses people including the FO will find a way to blame the HC. Play calling, clock management, team not playing hard, "lost the locker room" etc.
