if we trade for Rosen, does he really have to sit for a yr?

Big Blue '56 : 3/13/2019 2:23 pm
No idea if the Giants are interested or if the Cards really are ready to move on from him, but if he did come here, would he really have to sit and learn behind Eli?

He’s had 1 year of warfare under his belt and supposedly began to improve towards the latter part of the year. Too, with Shurmur guiding him, could he not be ready for the challenge, sooner, rather than later?

Doesn't matter who the team is, who ever has Rosen next year he should be starting.

He doesn't have to...

However it would be pretty awkward for the team to have Eli and his $23 million salary watching from the sidelines with the one-ear-only-headpiece looking all morose with his mouth hanging open.

And they could be wrong on that. Who really knows..Didn’t Garafolo say the other day that there’s no way that OBJ would be traded?

It’s a hypothetical, so answer the damn question..:)

Of course you wouldn't.
Sounds like Giants aren't interested.

But people keep posting this stuff, so how can they? Unless the outsiders are just dead wrong, the Giants will not be acquiring Rosen.

That would be the smart move if the Giants wanted him. Then Eli gets cut.

I would be happy to take a chance on Rosen if the cost was a 2nd round pick. I was just passing along what's been said.

To answer your question I think one of the main benefits of adding Rosen was that he was ready to start now which would allow us to cut Eli and use that money in free agency. We usually see QB's take their biggest jump in production from year one to year two.
Probably a situation like Eli
Beer Man : 3/13/2019 2:34 pm : link
during his rookie year. Warner was the mentor until the Giants were out of it, then Eli stepped in and got his feet wet.

Agreed.
Yes, he would until
Rong5611 : 3/13/2019 2:36 pm : link
Assuming the 4:00 announcement is the Eli extension and we actually trade for Rosen (which doesn't sound likely), he would likely sit until we are eliminated from the playoffs (or an Eli injury, mop up, etc.)

If we are keeping Eli, it makes sense to extend him and free up some cap room for this year.

I'll always love the guy but come the fuck on....move on already.
Generally speaking, have a bad feeling about Rosen
BSIMatt : 3/13/2019 2:38 pm : link
This guy, technically, checked all the boxes as a passer, and in a draft where 4 other QB needy teams passed on him including the Giants, he slid to 10th, and now that team is looking to draft a quarterback again and could be moving him for as little as a 2nd/3rd round pick? Something's not right there.
I’m fine going for Rosen
UConn4523 : 3/13/2019 2:40 pm : link
but only if Eli’s cut. No point in that circus.
If you remove sentementality
ron mexico : 3/13/2019 2:40 pm : link
no, he does not need to sit a year after playing 14 games last season.

But the Giants are not going to cut Eli so its a moot point

Except, Eli had mever started a game, so whatever help Warner may have passed on was most likely helpful..Rosen, however, already has played 1 season
Whether it is the GIants or another team
Mike from Ohio : 3/13/2019 2:44 pm : link
if the Cards trade Rosen, he doesn't need to sit and learn from anyone. He will learn much better on the field.

I know the insiders are poo-pooing the idea, but if the Giants did acquire him I think he should start week 1
Rosen will never be a Giant.

..but if you trade for Rosen, he immediately needs to be the starter.

Why waste a year on the bench, when he played 13 games last year?

Would be a huge mistake.........you need to get him more experience, and most importantly, see if the kid can play in the league - and shows the potential - to be a top notch QB.

I think that depends on how they assess him.

Eli would be cut, plain and simple, they are not trading for him to be a back up, but I don't think the Giants have any interest in him at all.

Try to get someone like Mahomes or Mayfield.....

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a qb who can run for the first down when no 9ne is open on 3rd and 4?
Now we know why this site keeps going downhill.
Big Blue '56 : 3/13/2019 3:28 pm : link
Very few people read the question. I am not interested in whether or not people think he’s coming here. That’s already been discussed ad nauseum on other Rosen threads. Why the need to post the same stuff here?

The question WAS NOT whether you want him here or not. That’s been beaten to death. Rather it was a very simple question:

IF he was here, does he have to sit a year behind Eli (if he’s here) or can he, should he, step right in?

Bastids!

The Giants don't need cap room this year. There are no high priced free agents left, and even if there were, they have plenty of room.

To answer your question....if we traded for Rosen BEFORE 3/17, Eli probably would be cut to save the 23 M. Rosen would not sit, seeing that he played all year....not a rook anymore.

Sorry for not answering your question and going off on my own. Me bad.

And so should Haskins if he is picked. I'm so tired of all the armchair scouts who find fault with every possible replacement for Eli. Eli must be released. If they can get Rosen for a 2nd and use the 2 1sts to fill needs with high level talent, great. If Rosen doesn't work out, they would likely get a shot at a 2020 QB. The position is important enough take 2 stabs if needed.
Hasn't Eli
