Just Met/Spoke with Dalvin Tomlinson

UConn4523 : 3/13/2019 3:33 pm
Extremely nice guy, took a good 5-10 minutes to talk to me and was pretty honest from what I can tell.

I told him I didn't get into the Odell stuff but I did ask him the below which I can tell he had a lot more fun answering than the usual BS:

Q - Biggest difference between Alabama and the NFL/NYG?
A - Alabama was a lot more intense, practiced a lot more, football was life. The NFL is more of a business, obviously less practice and time with coaches/teammates. He said Saban’s attention to detail is ridiculous.

Q - Who are you closest with on the Giants?
A - Avery Moss is his best friend on the team. Close with BJ Hill and was very close with Vernon, sad to see him go. Said the same for Snacks.

Q - How does Snacks like Detoit?
A - Isn't sure he likes the city so much but enjoys the team and coaching staff.

Q - What do you think of that additions at Safety?
A - Mixed, really hated seeing Collins go, was the heart of the defense, a close friend.

Q - I think it will be an interesting year, lots of ways the draft can go, are you excited to see what happens?
A - Its been a crazy couple of days but looking forward to going all in on drafting defense (hopes).

Q - Who’s the hardest player you’ve ever had to tackle.
A - Easily Marshawn Lynch, no question.

Q - Have you ever been to NY before being drafted?
A - No, this was the first time and a huge culture shock. Lives in NJ to be close to the facilities.

Q - If you didn’t go to the NFL what would you be doing (I knew his background a bit with finance)
A - Investment banking, I said he’s in a good city for that.

Really just shot the shit with him for a bit, asked me about what I do and such. Extremely impressed with how down to earth he is.

Anyway, it was a really cool fan moment as I’m not one to do this type of thing and bother players in their down time.

the Giants were staying at during training camp Dalvin's rookie year. Sat out in the lobby during the morning watching all the players go by. At 7 in the morning Dalvin was the only one with a smile on his face, and the only one that said hello back to a group of 3 grown men.

Seemed like a really nice guy, very easy to root for.
Nice. Thanks for passing it on to us

Tomlinson is someone who is very easy to root for. He had a tough upbringing, losing both his parents at such a young age. He actually got into Harvard but chose to go to Alabama for the football opportunities.
Very cool.

re: his point about Saban

I've heard from a coach who worked on his staff that he's the most intense person he's ever met and is medicated accordingly.
Good dude probably

Yeah he said Saban is no joke.

But why didn't you ask him what his opinions of Gettleman's integration of advanced analytics are? :)
Thanks

Did you just happen to see him in public or was this at your work?

Considering his background he probably could have schooled me on it.

I was in NYC for a work event and he was there with an events company doing promotional work. I happened to share a booth with company and struck up a conversation. He was getting pestered about Odell a lot so I told him I wasn’t interested in that which I think he appreciated.

Another thing that stood out was his size. He looks like he can beat many RBs in a foot race.
Very glad he’s a Giant.

Wish he could be in the rotation at DE with Hill and McIntosh. Seems like a better use of his tools, and might extend his shelf life. We’ll see what happens at NT over the next few months.

Love Big Dalvin!

He was a beast @ Bama. Really glad we have him.
Thanks UConn

Considering the Giants track record for nor re-signing DTs, I'm hoping he's here for the long term. This business of drafting DTs high and and then losing them to their second contract is especially annoying. Hated that Linval Joseph got away and hope that Tomlinson stays.
