but it means absolutely nothing as it relates to the Giants. Nobody came on here and said that OBJ was the worst person in the world or that he did not have any redeeming qualities about him. The allegation was that he was immature and was not worth the headache that he caused. This gesture he did to Kim Jones was certainly nice, but it proves nothing in this argument and it does not make anyone right about what kind of teammate or distraction he was. I am sure most, if not all, players who are moved due to character concerns have made nice gestures in their life. Please, this is so stupid.
There’s more to this whole thing than just football. That may not matter to you and that’s fine, but her feelings aren’t stupid. Her life is covering sports, this was obviously important to her.
Kim is awesome, beats listening to just about every other person in the business. She does a much better job than most when reporting.
I didn't say her feelings were stupid, I meant anyone on this board trying to use this as a point that the Giants were wrong about character issues is stupid. The Giants may well have been wrong (and I am against the trade) but this story doesn't prove anything.
I don't read either of them, so I don't have an opinion to offer on their work. But every time a negative article is posted on the site, there's plenty of people that will fill up that thread with criticism or just plain name calling of the journalist instead of the content of the piece.
It's easy to be bummed about Garafolo because he was the best in the business, as his success has shown.
We'll agree to disagree. I think it is clear cut that her personal opinions influenced her reporting.
Agreed.
For a year, she has dismissed any of the smoke that was surrounding Odell being in trade discussions saying none of it was true whenever she was asked.
Last night, she went even further on NFL Network. The video is online, but she accused any writer or media person who suggested Beckham was involved in trade chatter was trolling for clicks and begging for attention.
FIVE MINUTES LATER, they go the breaking news with Garafolo who reports the trade has just gone down.
Now you see the stories that have come out saying the Giants wanted to do this at the trade deadline. Glazer has been pumping this story for months. All of these different things are coming out now. And yet, it was Kim calling all of this nonsense (for lack of a better word) and going on the attack against anyone who said otherwise.
Clearly, any reporting she had on this for the last year was flagrantly wrong now. Kim is a very good reporter. But simply offering a "my bad" and the way she had gone out her way to (I guess) protect Odell (what other conclusion can be drawn now?) just seems very odd and not professional.
he is a true sports reporter, I always enjoyed reading his articles
I don't know who he was referring to but when I read it I thought Bill Pennington who is an excellent reporter for the Times and was on the beat for about 5-10 years
"Last Night of the Yankee Dynasty," about the the 2001 World Series, is one of my absolute favorite books. ESPN always ruins guys like him, but he's had a great career.
I stand by my comments. I like her a lot. But her reporting on Odell was way off the mark, almost as if she was pleading the Giants not to trade him.
That's not her job. Just like it's not Rob Leonard's job to constantly ride Beckham's ass. Or Steve Politi to one moment write how Beckham is an asshole and then months later say the Giants are idiots for trading him.
Did you see her report right before the trade... it's almost as if she took the trade rumors as an insult.
I did because she said that the Giants were taking calls but that there demands were too high. She said that people would start rumors for clicks. I actually believe some of that was true. I do believe she truly believed most of the rumors were garbage, so did Garafolo who said he did not believe Odell would be moved and that was right before her comments. Was he being unprofessional too? They were wrong. Dorsey never gave up. DG should never have made this trade for the return he got. I hope I am wrong but my heart and mind tell me I am not.
All they want, but he is a very good/caring person. Met him numerous times from college to the Pros. ALWAYS takes time with people. Pics, autographs and he'll sit there and talk just like any other person. It may not seem like much, but it's stuff that a lot of famous people don't do.
Make decisions with your head, not your heart. I was guilty of overlooking OBJs diva attitude, but I’m over it time to move on. Just ordered Barkley jerseys for my son and I😀

sure. but her sharing a story about how OBJ reached out is wrong? They are around players all day long. it isnt wrong for them to have some sort of connection. she shared her story about a time with OBJ and how she felt he was a good guy. i dont see anything wrong. she wasnt crying because he was gone, she got emotional because someone unrelated to her and with no attachment showed he gave a shit. its completely the opposite of the picture most of the media paints
Yeah, but OBJ didn't die, he just got traded. Therefore, there is no reason for her to be emotional about it in that sense. Reporters are there to report news, not make it and if they can't do that, then it shows their bias.
as a reporter? Do you think if she had the story she wouldn't have broken it? Was she hiding a story somehow? She didn't get the story and didn't think it was going to happen (she said "unless an offer blew them away - apparently this offer did blow them away, that's up for discussion) so she was wrong about that.
Sharing a nice story about someone she spent WAY more time with than any of us was nice and obviously she was touched by it (hell, she almost lost her life so I can understand the emotion). My 2 cents

If you watch the clip, it comes across as if she thinks Odell is some sort of victim. Odell got paid $95 million last year. He played in 12 games. He just got traded to a team that he wanted to play for. He's no victim.
Sports reporters aren't and shouldn't be held to the same fucking standard as Tom Brokaw or Edward R Murrow.
They are journalists aren't they? We give journalists a level of trust or hold them to a standard we wouldn't for "average BBI poster." They are used for sources of information, we trust that what they are giving us is based on facts. I expect that of all journalists, but I guess I'm old school.

Nobody was complaining about Kim Jones' professionalism and ability to be impartial when she covered the Penn State scandal (her alma matter), or when she was giving glowing, positively immaculate impressions of Saquon Barkley (a historically great player from her alma matter). Why now is it a problem?
Because it runs contrary to the Giants narrative their media shills are spreading.
Salzberg was on Kay saying “nobody told me this but I have a feeling they think Odell could have played those last four weeks and wasn’t as hurt as he led on”. Others have said it too.

100% true, but some are not reporters. Rather some of them are columnists. Kim, though, is a true sports journalist who I respect and like more than any other. So, the apparent emotional attachment and allowing it to cloud her reporting is out of character.
does make it easy to forget what "news" is and what "reporting" has classically looked like.
I don't disagree that it is painfully difficult to find news that is being responsibly reported by people who take the time to fact check. That said, with the erosion of any semblance of job security and the potential to make a career without credentials, I accept the mess and do my best to sift through it.
Kim Jones is an excellent reporter and I don't hold against her the need for "additional sifting required".

Her daily reporting on the scandal at Penn State was by far the best. She was giving a daily interview with Francessa and it was outstanding. Nobody had more information, was more thorough, more objective, or more professional.
As for Barkley, is it unprofessional to glow about him? Alma Mater or not, he was, by far, the best player in the draft and maybe several drafts.
We've been allowed to make the sports section our homepage - but it's still just entertainment.

Pat Leonard is a hack. Kim Jones is guilty of having human empathy, big deal.

I'm a fan of Kim Jones.
But she let her Penn State connections transparently affect her reporting. Agree 100 percent and mentioned Saquon above as an example.
This isn't a huge deal. It just rubs me the wrong way that Odell is made out to be some sort of victim here. Odell got what he wanted. He won.
