DL Mario Edwards is visiting the Saints tonight per source.
He was actually decent
Matt in SGS : 3/13/2019 8:57 pm : link
but if it helps with the comp pick formula in 2020, I hope the Saints sign him.
Show him the money
rasbutant : 3/13/2019 8:58 pm : link
Get the giants another comp pick.
He played well
XBRONX : 3/13/2019 8:59 pm : link
in limited snaps. Say good bye to him.
The more picks we have next year
DavidinBMNY : 3/13/2019 9:03 pm : link
The better off we will be.
played pretty good
bc4life : 3/13/2019 9:04 pm : link
was hoping he might develop into a solid starter or rotational player and stay here. pretty sure, he'll get enough $ to leave.
If Mario Edwards played pretty good,
Doomster : 3/13/2019 9:09 pm : link
then so did Riley....

I actually forgot he was a FA. I actually thought he played wel. I would hope we would try and bring him back.

Side note, I just don’t feel like DG has a strategy/plan.
DG
XBRONX : 3/13/2019 9:13 pm : link
plan is max tank this year.
Just a reminder
SJGiant : 3/13/2019 9:16 pm : link
The maximum number of compensation picks that can be awarded to a single team in one year is 4.
I would like to keep...
M.S. : 3/13/2019 9:17 pm : link

...this guy!

He was a solid rotational player for us.

You're as tenacious as you are consistently wrong.

Take a few plays off. We don't need for you to post your opinion, whenever anything positive is said about any Giants player - everyone on BBI can just nod knowingly that you will think the opposite
I

thought he played well. I hope we can resign him, but my guess is someone offers him more than we do.
How do people not think DG has a plan?
bradshaw44 : 3/13/2019 10:32 pm : link
Collins walks and everyone thinks he has no interest in the safety position. In under two days we have two safeties, one a recent first round pick. Our OL was getting close to stable but still needed help and it was missing a RG and RT. He landed us the best RG in the league while simultaneously dumping a toxic contract of a player we were probably going to cut. We had a player that was outspoken about his displeasure with the team. He’s gone and we have a second first round pick this year and a third round pick which we were missing prior to that. And we have more draft picks then we have had in recent memory. Not too mention his first draft as our GM appears to be a good one.

Anyone that can’t see a pattern or plan in these moves is being willfully ignorant and its based on their anger over him trading their favorite player.
signing a 36 year old veteran isn't a plan. it's a one year layover.

So you totally discount Peppers?
bradshaw44 : 3/13/2019 10:39 pm : link
You discount the fact that Bathea was a solid player last year and doesn’t break the bank?

The problem with Peppers was that he was part of an extremely weak return in exchange for one of the league's best WRs. You can call it 'addressing the safety position' if it makes you feel better.

Simply stated what is the plan?

What I frankly see is cutting losses on mistakes. That's commendable, but not planful.

Last offseason he made 2 players the highest paid at their position. As of today one was traded after 12 games at a cost of 23M. The other is entering his 9th NFL season at a cost of 17M. How does match with the plan?

In 4 days a 38-year-old QB will all but guaranteed to cost the 23M dollars in his final season. How does that match the plan?

I pointed out all these moves as part of one larger plan. He has a plan clearly. Whether people like it or not is another story. We aren’t going to get a bunch Odell caliber players at every position. What we are getting is a bunch of positions filled by not having Odell. Until I hear what better offers DG turned down for Odell I believe he got the best haul he could get.

Did you read the rest of my post? It’s clearly laid out. He’s filling in positions he lost players in and then some.
As far as the 38 year old QB goes
bradshaw44 : 3/13/2019 10:57 pm : link
I don’t know what his end game is for him. I tend to believe if DG can get his replacement if he likes a guy this year, he will make the move.

So do you guys think Gettleman is just doing these things just to do them? Or just to upset you?

No, I think Gettleman is recovering and reacting from a majorly flawed set of decisions he made last year, and cutting his losses.

I think we're seeing a general manager who knows the roster he inherited was full off assholes and overpaid players. He thought by improving the culture, he could save guys like Apple, Snacks, Flowers, and Beckham. But he couldn't provide the only real antidote -- winning.

I see a general manager who's reportedly hanging onto a team legend at a kingdom ransome, who's not part of the future, but who's a fan and ownership favorite and has to be treated with more than on the field play in mind.

I see a GM who paid an average Nate Solder record money for the back third of his career, and made a number of other free agent mistakes last offseason. Including paying a player 23M for 12 games.

If the plan is to lose some players and add some players -- that's not a plan.
I guess, if your version of a plan includes

since we are on to “the plan” and leaving edwards behind, let me offer

this. I can’t read DG’s mind, and I am far from a football expert, especially not expert to plan in the NFL of 2019 forward but I can speculate which is all any of us can do who has not “planned” with DG:

1. Rebuild the defense as quickly as possible with draft choices acquired for deep 2019 Defensive Draft. Stop the run and improve safety and cb play with Jackrabbit, Beal and others to be drafted. Draft ER and inside backer.
2.Create an offense centered on a “generational” running back who knows what being a teammate is all about. Run the clock, score as you can both running and using play/action passing with a qb who can also occasionally throw the long ball to Shepard and seams to Engram.
3. ST’s were vastly improved last season so try and maintain there
4. Draft qb in 2020

The other thing Gettleman has done is rid bad contracts taking dead money hits this year and bring in value contracts. More of this could occur.

Also, if they don't trade Jackrabbit for draft capital now, he would be an excellent piece, provided if healthy and playing well to move at the trade deadline. Shurmer loves Jackrabbit but it's a business and he could really help a contending team.

Agree one ‘hunit! People may not like the plan, but I think it’s fairly obvious that there is in fact a pretty clear plan.

It's day two of FA. Nobody knows what he's got planned for Eli at this point. Even if they keep him, that doesn't mean they aren't planning to grab a QB of the future. Whether it be draft or some other means.

And as of now, Eli's contract hasn't kept us from going after any FA. Nobody has said anything about a player we targeted no coming here because of money. Not too mention, until the Odell trade people were happy we weren't burning money in FA.

I get everyone's frustration, but to think that this guy is just sitting in his office being bested by every GM in the league is simply reactionary thinking based on the return we got from Odell. Two days prior DG was being praised for pulling off the Zeitler trade.

There is a plan. Whether people like it or not is another thing.
Edwards was solid

and played well in some spots.

As for DG's plan, it's safe to say whatever it is it's off to a slow start. But, if you are honest with yourself and thinking less with your heart, you had to realize this would take time to rebuild.

Just getting rid of problem children and bad contracts takes time, due to the contracts themselves.

DG needs to avoid shopping hungry, and assemble a big draft.

Absolutely. And so far he seems to be avoiding the shopping hungry. As far as the big draft, he's got a hefty amount of picks, hopefully he can turn them into a team.

I just wish that they would fully embrace the rebuild. Let Eli go because he doesn't deserve to go through another season like last year.
