WR Jalen Hurd, Baylor

TC : 3/14/2019 12:41 am
Giants need WR's. Giants need a bigger WR. And what if that guy could even be a short yardage specialist at RB? No such critter? Well, there is.

Former RB Jalen Hurd transitioned from RB to a SLOT WR for Baylor. He's 6'5", very athletic, with great hands and strong as a bull. And a legitimate option on short yardage to either carry, block or catch. A unique weapon that some think may be a first round talent.

What's not to like? He's raw as a WR and has a lot to learn. But he's super driven and competitive, and he will. Might be an interesting option for the Giants if he's still around after the 1st.

Zierlein -

"Hurd was used as big slot but he might need to transition into a role outside to take advantage of his potential to stretch the field as a downfield ball-winner. He's still learning the nuances of the position, but he has outstanding traits, a great work ethic and an ability to get much better very quickly. While Hurd will be an NFL receiver, he offers a unique option of becoming a short-yardage banger near the goal line. His best days are in front of him."

I saw him in High School

He was a excellent huge back coming out and heading to Tennessee where he excelled in his first year but fell out of favor and left for Baylor. He became a wide receiver and showed flashes of catching the ball and getting YAC. He is raw but could be a solid 4th or 5th round pick.

I have been liking Jalen Hurd as an option for NYG for some time. He could be a useful day 3 pick up.
He actually reminds me of Engram

We definitly have an opening for WRs

Can we get him in later rounds?

I would not draft a wr early unless he is a Julio Jones type....the fans will compare all high drafted wr to OBJ, not sure if that is ideal, nor fair

I’d prefer to stay away from the Reese model

Of drafting players primarily on measurable and athleticism. This team needs guys that have proven they can produce consistently over time against good competition.

impressive at both positions; I also like the fact that he was coached by Matt Rhule

am very high on him. He'd be a great day three pick. I agree that his best football is ahead of him. I certainly agree we shouldn't be drafting "measurables" players, but Hurd has already produced and has a lot of raw talent that can be developed. He is exactly the kind of player that should be a priority target on day three, especially since we have so many picks.

They run a more traditional offense since Matt Rhule got there. Their receivers probably run a more traditional route tree than before.
