FA RTs still available

jeff57 : 3/14/2019 8:27 am
Include:

Jeremy Parnell

Jared Veldheer

Joe Barksdale

Kendall Lamm

Ryan Schrader

Jordan Mills

Mike Remmers

Not exactly a stirring bunch. But I'd sign one of them, if for no other reason than insurance.
I got an even better option

Why don't we package a few of those mid round picks and send them up to New England for Dante Scarnecchia?

Sure, if he brings Belichick. Most of his coaches thrive under his aegis and then they go elsewhere, and?

Havent seen them play enough to have an opinion but neither Remmers nor Schaeder would count against the comp pick formula. Which by all accounts looks like a 3rd rounder. Something to consider.

That said, looking at that list, I hope our starting RT comes from one of our 1st 4 draft picks.

You and I both know that Scarnecchia is cut from a different cloth. I didn't realize he was 71 already.

What he has done up in NE with their OL's is tremendous. He does more with less than anyone in the league. There is a reason that why the Pats let their OL leave when they are about to get paid. They have the "OL whisperer" ready to work his magic.
Wheeler is not good
Mike from Ohio : 3/14/2019 8:34 am : link
But how much of an upgrade are any of these guys? I think the RT will need to come from the draft.
Our RT
Joey in VA : 3/14/2019 8:35 am : link
Will be drafted.

I think they're all upgrades.

Agreed
But figgy,
Big Blue '56 : 3/14/2019 8:37 am : link
remember, Gettleman is old, Scarnecchia isn’t..
Brandon Jacobs
Big Rick in FL : 3/14/2019 8:38 am : link
Has been banging the table for Jordan Mills for a few weeks now. He thinks he's a really good player.

Agreed - But we also need depth at a reasonable co$t.

For a second I thought this was a thread about FARTS
I'd take Remmers
giants#1 : 3/14/2019 8:53 am : link
or one of the others that were cut on something like a 2 yr/$8M deal. Can backup both OT spots, significant upgrade over Wheeler and gives added flexibility in the draft in case they don't get a OT in the first 2 rounds that can start immediately.

I heard a radio interview with him a couple of years ago. He said it's the Pats or retirement for him. He also said something along the lines of he doesn't really want to be working but Bill talks him into it.

We need somebody with his skills.

They're also cousins
Remmers

sucks. Pass.
I rather
Carson53 : 3/14/2019 9:25 am : link
they just draft one, they have extra picks now.
Plenty of teams do it.
In recent years teams like the Colts, Saints, etc.
Spend some money on this defense!
We should have been all over that Marcus Gilbert trade (6th rd pick)
Eric on Li : 3/14/2019 9:29 am : link
he's had trouble staying healthy the last couple years, but he is a beast. Only costs 4m against the cap the next 2 years. Hopefully there's another guy like that available somewhere.
I have no idea how good those players are?
George from PA : 3/14/2019 9:39 am : link
But I much rather have a proven RT.....get me an adult NFL RT. I am tired of growing pains, development etc....

9 years of shit on OL....i think we have finally at least enouhh talent for a clean pocket.

Over pay for a proven player at RT.

I really rather not go with a rookie.
I’m thinking We may draft our RT
5BowlsSoon : 3/14/2019 9:41 am : link
With our second round pick or possibly third round pick. One of the two.

.

Other teams do it, this list is a bunch of JAGS,
players that have seen their better days.
People need to stop with the paranoia about a rookie RT.
If they draft a rookie, he will be playing next to a veteran RG, as I mentioned, other teams do it.
This is now Tier 3 of the free agency period.
Maybe sign a WR on offense, that can't hurt.
Better to look at what they have here on defense, and try
to shore that up.

Makes the most sense to me.
Jordan Mills is not an upgrade from Wheeler. Sorry.
Red Dog : 3/14/2019 12:02 pm : link
I've watched Mills play with the Bills for a few seasons now, and I would not sign him. He's no better than Wheeler.
Remmers or Veldheer
Pan-handler : 3/14/2019 12:05 pm : link
Not too thrilled with the other guys
There are still plenty of FA RTS available
leatherneck570 : 3/14/2019 12:08 pm : link
the hard part is finding one that doesn't stink.

All I see is farts...Stop using FA RTS.
Everyone thinks a rookie RT will be a Day 1 starter. Unlikely
Ivan15 : 3/14/2019 12:32 pm : link
unless the Giants use the #6 pick. Even the #17 pick is dicey, although he should be a solid starter by the end of the season.

The Giants got lucky with Hernandez. He was a guard and it still took at least 1/2 season for him to be a respectable G.

They need a veteran RT who can start until he is beaten out. Remmers or Shrader look to be the best out there.

If they get to the trade deadline, and someone has lost a starting tackle, make a deal.

Similar with Pulley as a trade option (like the did with Jones).
At slot 17 there is a very good likelihood
BlueLou'sBack : 3/14/2019 12:40 pm : link
Of a starting caliber RT available in the draft.

Jonah Williams even, according to draft simulators. Or Risner...
