Most important part of rebuild is to cut Eli cord

jmalls23 : 3/14/2019 10:31 am
Giant fans. We are moving on from one of the worst GMs in giant history. He missed for so long that it cost us a team. We reset. It’s sucks but we reset. We cannot keep Eli. Either trade for Rosen for a 2 or 3 and if he stinks it costs us scraps. If it is Haskins, throw him to the wolves and get some monsters on defense and offense
not gonna happen

This time next year. Not before.

What is this love for Rosen?

No thank you. He is a spoiled, not tough, west coast guy.

Cutting Eli to trade for Rosen
djstat : 3/14/2019 11:18 am : link
makes no sense unless they believe in Rosen. Eli being here in '19 does not hinder a rebuild.
Eventually

But the key is to get the correct QB. I want an Andrew Luckish type.

One that can win SuperBowls. One that win games in the 4th qtr and raise the level of play around him. A great pocket passer who can get out of trouble and cause some damage with his feet.

I do want one who manages games.

Just don’t get it. You of course know much better then the GM and coach. Grow up and go back to your fantasy football league.
They are not moving
joeinpa : 3/14/2019 11:30 am : link
On this season; Might not even draft one.

Don’t get why they have to be so certain quarterback is the absolute right guy, because there are no absolutes.

For that matter drafting Flowers kind of set them back, why is getting the wrong qb any more of a risk
Flowers and Eli Apple set them back
BSIMatt : 3/14/2019 11:42 am : link
That Larry Tunsil bong video threw a curve in the Apple draft and basically shifted tackle order.

A QB like that comes around very infrequently. Luck, rightfully so, was regarded as one of the better prospects in a decade.

The reality is 1) the vetting process doesn't always avail them; see Rodgers and Mahomes 2) championships can be won without one; see Wilson and Foles 3) many good not great QBs are having early success in this era of the NFL; see Goff, Watson.
We just got rid of a diva at wide receiver...
the mike : 3/14/2019 11:57 am : link
Do you really think Gettleman is bringing a diva in at quarterback? For 2019, Eli is not the problem... if the Oline and defense are fixed we can compete for the division. If not, we can't. No one else gives us a better shot at competing in 2019 than Eli... Are there more mobile quarterbacks available, yes. Are there better pocket passers available, no. Can you win in the NFL without a quality pocket passing game, no. Ergo, Eli.

The 2020 draft class is where we should be focused on getting our future quarterback...
Eli wants to play till 45

Someone could write a nice thesis on how the Tunsil bong video permanently altered the NY Giants timeline for the worse.

Maybe if we draft Conklin the OL issues aren't so bad, Eli plays better, Giants have more success and OBJ isn't so unhappy, etc. etc. etc.
Agree 100%

This is the biggest problem with the direction of the franchise. It’s steeped in nostalgia and lacks foresight.

Trevor Lawrence 2021, but we absolutely need tank the season for him.
I'm surprised a lot of BBIers don't get what's happening here.

The Giants do not work this way. They are not ruthless. They are sentimental to a fault. They think of players and ex-players as family. The major players, like LT and Simms and Eli and Strahan, even more so. This why we think of them as "classy," and we are proud that they are a classy organization.

These are their organizational values. They transcend football and the record in any given season.

I think that part of the reason for the fury from owner about the end of Eli's streak is that it didn't embody the values of the organization. It was a ruthless, unsentimental football decision. It isn't how you treat family. John Mara is still rueful about the way Simms was treated at the end. That isn't how you treat family, either. They're going to treat Eli like family, and will sacrifice wins to that end.

This is also why they are thin-skinned about guys like Tiki and OBJ criticizing the organization or the current players. It's a betrayal by family. They can't shrug that stuff off.

The Giants are nearing 100 years old and the Maras have owned the team since the beginning. 2019 is just one season, those values are more important to ownership. And yes, more important than winning. You may not like it, but this is who they are. They are not going to cut Eli. He can retire, they may even ask him to retire, they probably would be fine if he could find a trade for himself, but they're not going unceremoniously cut him. .

I'm not as sentimental as they are, actually. I'm tired of watching the Giants lose. But I understand where they're coming from. Again, I'm surprised how many Giants fans don't get it at all.
this is bullshit

"I think that part of the reason for the fury from owner about the end of Eli's streak is that it didn't embody the values of the organization."

Mara knew Geno was starting, and didn't do anything until the back lash became too great to handle.

The only values Mara has shown over the past 5 years is how to flip flop.

I've always been a fan of his, but he needs to grow a spine

That was a tremendous post and spot on 100% accurate.

Eli is like a son to Mara....and will be treated accordingly. It's why the would never ask him to take a pay cut.
we don't need a farewell tour after becoming the laughing stock

of the league, especially when the last significant achievement was 8 years ago. time to move on.

signing Rosen is low risk ($ wise). if it doesn't work then that means we're in position to draft a replacement. I would do it in a heart beat.

I may be wrong about that piece of it.

But I think my larger point is valid.
Yeah, that lousy GM
RollBlue : 3/14/2019 2:37 pm : link
that played a large role in making 3 Super Bowls, winning 2 of them, and a team that went 11-5 just 2 years ago???

You know what has been dog crap for the last 5-6 years? Coaching, and, for the last 2, QB play.

But go ahead and re-write history.
