In the Zeitler/Vernon trade Cleve got our 4th and we got their 5th. In the OBJ trade we swapped those two picks, so we got our 4th back and they took the 5th back.

but when your trading you have to think this way. If you get said pick for a player who can I buy instead.

trading Collins the Giants could have gotten a draft pick than sign a free agent safety.

I did not want to see OBJ go - he is a tremendous player. However, if it was determined they could not live with him they got a 1, 3 and a 1st rd player. Add that to Vernon for Zeitler

Cle got the best player but the Giants did get capital

What I now don't want to see if a trade moving up using 2-3 of those high picks to get Haskins

Get some defense and another OL on 1st 3 picks and move on

We got rid of a PITA DIVA who showed no signs of growing up. This in itself will be the biggest gain from the trade.

Eagles will get a 4th rd pick.. also add the dead money from the OBJ trade.. Also remember to add that Tate who already looked super slow in the second half of the year will be here for at least 2-4 more years.. Jesus christ people here are such homers.. you can't possibly be convinced that this was a good signing.

Well you can counter that with now having 120M in cap space next year so there's that

So, it is really Tate, Peppers and a first rounder for Odell.
Plus, Giants will have 10+ million more in 2020-2 in cap space

Tate cancelled out the 5th rounder we were going to get for Brown

that by the time all is said and done people will be claiming we got like 15 guys for OBJ. Whatever makes you feel better about the trade I guess.

but I do think it's fair to consider the FA's signed because of the freed up cap, although eventually you should consider the net effect on the cap once that's known.

Analysis:

Losing 1 unreplaceable player (OBJ) 1 talented but regularly injured and expensive EDGE defender and however many dollars in cap space

Gaining 2 highly coveted players at a position of high need (RG Zeitler and S Peppers), a talented end of career WR (Tate), a talented but coming off injury EDGE defender (Golden), and extra first and third round picks.

Seems to me like these trades are working out to wins overall for the Giants, as much as I hate seeing OBJ leave.

Wonder how much more there is in store for this team in FA.


I really thought from the rumors yesterday we were going to hear something crazy like Eli cut and a trade for Stafford/Wilson/Mariota/Carr or something like that. Then the reports about the time spent with Murray yesterday and I thought we might here about a trade up with AZ to #1.
