Pretty typical stuff. He'll make the Giants pay and all that typical introductory stuff. Said when visiting Washington Snyder took him and his family out to dinner and gave him what Snyder claimed was one of two signed Sean Taylor jerseys. Power move, but knowing Snyder some underling signed that thing in the lobby of the restaurant. In any case, a question...
In reference to the Giants Collins stated "I get to prove they should have at least tagged me". But wasn't he pretty vocal about not wanting the franchise tag? Not a big deal, just a momentary distraction from all the Beckham talk.

Same with Shepard. Other teams extend their young talent, which provides both good will on the part of players and usually gets them somewhat below market. That's not the Giants MO, and they've been paying for it.
Collins was at least worth a discussion.
Maybe he's offended he didn't get the tag, but in all honesty by not being tagged he achieved financial security for life. That's the one thing I wouldn't hold a grudge over.
players regarding the tag
There are many more sources out there saying he wanted to come back
And outside of a new deal, that leaves the possibility of a franchise tag, which Collins prefers to steer clear of.
"Honestly, I don't want it," Collins said. "I know what type of player I am. I'm going to bring forth hard work, talent, play-making abilities to the game each and every week. Why would I want to play under a one-year deal? If something happens I'm not guaranteed. And even though I'm guaranteed that for a year, I'm still not guaranteed."
"It is what it is," Collins said. "If they franchise tag me, I have to go from there. I can't go nowhere. There's not much I can do."

I'm likely reading way too much into it though.

Source?
That's why he has no interest in getting the franchise tag.

Of course, Collins knows that if the Giants use the tag "I don't have a choice."
