Barnwell: Giants lost 3rd round Comp Pick for Collins

Dave in Hoboken : 3/14/2019 6:47 pm
From Bill Barnwell of ESPN:

Quote:
To add insult to injury, the one positive coming out of the Landon Collins situation is that the Giants were going to get a third-round compensatory pick for their star safety, who left for Washington. By signing Tate, the Giants will cancel out the compensatory pick and instead send another third-rounder to the Eagles, who are already getting one for Nick Foles.

Is this true?

The other thread says no

It cancels the 5th round comp for J. Brown. That sounds more realistic.
does the math even add up?
Platos : 3/14/2019 6:48 pm : link
i think the formula has something in it if you're the Giants you can only get a 6th or 7th comp pick ever lol
I read it cancels out the 5th rounder they would have gotten

for Jamon Brown.
Way too early to tell

You have to let free agency play out.

how this works. It's a net gain/loss situation based on qualified FA contracts, playing time, honors. This has to play out first.

Again, I don't think we should be worrying too much about this.
we lose at this ridiculous game

With the super secret and special comp pick formula

This makes a lot of sense. To be completely accurate, Barnwell should also note that under the formula NEP are also entitled to a 4th because we signed Tate.

I was reading the article and saw it and wasn't sure if it was true. Even asked in the OP, "Is this true?"

So, shut the fuck up you crybaby.
It is simple math
robbieballs2003 : 3/14/2019 6:53 pm : link
We have shitty FAs overall. How many of our guys signed elsewhere? 3? If that is true then we can only sign 2 FAs whose contracts expired by other teams. This team isn't in position to not sign FA. Getting a comp pick this year is unlikely.
It doesn’t work that way
Vanzetti : 3/14/2019 6:57 pm : link
Picks don’t cancel each other. The committee looks at the total number of. Players signed and lost and their contracts and petformance

You may need a timeout to gather yourself after the emotional toll the Beckham trade seems to have taken on you.

Barnwell a good writer? He's terrible. Half the time he's just making shit up.
Based on last years numbers
rasbutant : 3/14/2019 7:11 pm : link
But with all the high price contracts this year the cut off for 3rd rounder will be much high. I read somewhere, probably OTC that it based on percentile 95% being 3rd round and so on.

I think Tate will count as a 4th round comp, so 3rd is still in play, but they're not done yet.
Comp picks are the least of the Giants problems
RobCarpenter : 3/14/2019 7:12 pm : link
Just draft well with the picks you have and the rest will follow.

It is not true except the 6th or 7th ever part.

Plus who gives a shit right now anyway about the Comp pick we are talking at best the 97th pick in the draft.
The way you have to look at the comp picks
SJGiant : 3/14/2019 7:16 pm : link
Is what is the score? How many unrestricted free agents we lose versus how many we gained. After that, there are other factors. But right now, just look at the score. It’s 3-2 in our favor. You can follow it on Eric’s free agency scorecard

I love the gif.
For what it's worth, OTC predicts we'd still get a 3rd for LC
sb from NYT Forum : 3/14/2019 7:25 pm : link
...Personally I find it hard to believe that Golden Tate would be the same tiered player as Collins. That's the only way they'd cancel out.

Barnwell is a deeply troubled, weird man who identifies as a Giants fan. But gets off on hating everything the Giants do. Par for the course to rush to post this regardless of the truth. Day 1 ESPN stuff

That formula that gives extra points to the Patriots and Eagles? LOL

never awards the Giants comp picks and the team shouldn’t make decisions based on shit that’s not gaurenteed anyway. So many knee-jerk reactions when free agency just started and the draft (with 12 picks!) hasn’t even happened yet. This team will be continue to be churned up until the regular season again. Need to let it play out at this point, 12 picks is a lot to build depth, or to trade.

I wonder if it’s open season on the giants. Talk about a misleading article. “The giants will send the eagles a 3rd rounder”

Whaaaaaat??? The giants didn’t send Philly a fucking thing and what if Philly signs a FA here soon?? And the giants didn’t let Collins walk because of a possible 3rd round comp pick. That is just gravy. They let him go because they didn’t want to pay him a small fortune.

Fuck everyone. This shit is out of hand.
The comp picks matter
Go Terps : 3/14/2019 7:56 pm : link
I don't think you can sweat a pick here or there, but it's got to be a matter of policy regarding free agency: it's better to be a "seller" in FA than it is to be a "buyer" for a lot of reasons having to do with resource allocation.

What's also interesting is that it may, as a matter of policy, be cheaper to acquire veterans in trades as opposed to via the free agency process.

I wouldn't sweat this pick; this is something that has to be part of the general comprehensive plan for the team...if one exists.

You shut up the Managment is totally distracted

Distracted and Confused

What was the thought when Collins was not getting the Franchise tag? They had to know they could have traded him for a third because according to reports they were offered a 3rd

How do you sell a contract for nothing ?
