It’s Great to be a NY Giants fan today (10 reasons why)

5BowlsSoon : 3/14/2019 7:10 pm
Wow have things improved for us in less than a week:

1. Peppers will be better than Collins and he costs us 13 M less off cap. That is huge!

2. Tate catches 90 or more per year and is never injured. Sure, Odell is slightly better because he catches more tds and can make unbelievable one handed catches, but Tate isn’t too shabby and costs us about half of what we were to pay Odell

3. Zeitler is a beast and really solidifies our line

4. We won’t miss Vernon and we were probably going to drop him and get nothing back

5. We now have two first round picks, we now have a third round pick (we didn’t have), and we got our fourth round pick back (while losing Cleve fifth)

6. We now have 12 draft picks

7. We saved 3.5 million trading Odell this year and a gob of money the following years

8. I’ve grown weary of all the off the field drama; hopefully this subsides

9. The additions of Golden and potentially Remmers makes us even more competitive and fills needs.

10. I don’t believe we are done with FA either.

Bottom line: We are definitely trending upward. Wait till you see our draft picks. This place will be buzzing with enthusiasm
Things are improving slowly but surely

And based on the way we drafted last year, there is still a lot to look forward to in terms of the talent that’s going to be added.

Wrapping up this phase of talent acquisition with Remmers on a reasonable deal would be very solid.

Wow have things improved for us in less than a week:

1. Peppers will be better than Collins and he costs us 13 M less off cap. That is huge! - Great we just added 2 strong Safeties when we needed 1 FS

2. Tate catches 90 or more per year and is never injured. Sure, Odell is slightly better because he catches more tds and can make unbelievable one handed catches, but Tate isn’t too shabby and costs us about half of what we were to pay Odell - Slightly Better? Odell averages 2nd most Yards per game in NFL history after Julio.. Tate?

3. Zeitler is a beast and really solidifies our line - Ok this was good

4. We won’t miss Vernon and we were probably going to drop him and get nothing back - He was our best DL.. our only DL that was applyin any pressure.. As you can see in FA, DL are not easy to find.. Guards are much easier

5. We now have two first round picks, we now have a third round pick (we didn’t have), and we got our fourth round pick back (while losing Cleve fifth) - Draft experts say about 14-17 players are of first round quality in this draft.. BTW we already earned the 6th pick because we were out of competetion by Oct 1st in 2018..

6. We now have 12 draft picks - Good thing as Our new GM is good at draft picks

7. We saved 3.5 million trading Odell this year and a gob of money the following years - Did we add the money back from Tate's contract?

8. I’ve grown weary of all the off the field drama; hopefully this subsides - yes because pissing on the field like a dog is much worse than fucking your QB's wife.. or getting in fights in the locker room

9. The additions of Golden and potentially Remmers makes us even more competitive and fills needs. Lets load up on slot WR and TE.. No need to go outside the Hashmarks.. Remmer is a good signing BTW..

10. I don’t believe we are done with FA either... Do we have any money left? Also we have too much money for next year.. will it be similar to our last FA spending spree? I look forward to old WR and RB joining this team..

Bottom line: We are definitely trending upward. Wait till you see our draft picks. This place will be buzzing with enthusiasm - Homerism

I see a lot of positive developments. Who cares if people from this site and the media see the negative.

This team is going to become a hard nosed team again. The last few years have been so depressing watching them bet pushed around. I really appreciate what DG is doing. He understands football and what made the Giants successful. I am almost certain that if he was made GM instead of Reese, Eli and TC would have had another Super Bowl.

Of DG losing the Odell trade. DG did OK today. Do I think we have the makings of a good team for 2019 right now? No I don’t. And that’s a good think in my view because this thing really doesn’t turn the corner until DG identifies and acquires Eli’s replacement.

Absolutely mate!
Think about this....if we sign Remmers, we now have no serious liability on the OL. (Pulley or Halipio should do fine). And Wheeler becomes important depth.

We played pretty well without OBJ on offense last year so I’m thinking with the additions of these two OL guys plus Tate and keep your fingers crossed, an EE ready to bust loose.....wow, I’m drooling!

Gotta work on defense in the draft and perhaps the qb of our future.

Golden Tate has 1k yard in only 3 of his 9 seasons.. despite always being healthy... OBj has more in just 5 seasons.. OBJ Yards per game 92.8. Golden Tate 52.7. OBJ 44 TD in 5 season .. Tate 38 in 9 seasons..
The way I see it
GeorgeAdams33 : 3/14/2019 7:28 pm : link
Thinking back on the 2018 season Odell was used on a lot of short crossing routes where he'd come across the linebacker zones and try to get YAC. Golden Tate is tough coming across the middle. He could be as effective or more effective than OBJ was in this offense last year. He might be a better fit overall for what we are doing.

I sincerely doubt there is even one NFL player, coach or scout who thinks that OBJ is only "slightly better" than Golden Tate.

Make whatever case you want. But don't be a homer. Tell the truth.

While at work today I read how screwed up we are. How Dorsey porked (fleeced) Gettleman, and how our Management is the worst in the NFL.

On top of that it was written that we are the worst franchise in the NFL and should not expect anything for years.

Reading above and watching the signings and expecting great things in the draft, I say the hell with the naysayers and yes it looks like we have a plan.

OBJ was a generational talent at wr, but he was an outrage almost
plato : 3/14/2019 7:56 pm : link
everywhere else. DG was almost certainly told by Mara to move him after the “urine”incident or one of his later press conferences. DG moved him and got the best he could in return which is not awful but talent wise not equal. but giants may be able to overcome the talent loss in other ways. no one however can argue that Tate even approaches OBJ in talent or production.
the Giants however are transitioning from the Reese debacle to a franchise that will win by running and defense, and a shorter game by running the clock. In 2019 there will be far fewer games where Eli leaves field with lead and watchesGiants lose in closing minutes or Eli can’t run the clock out with lead by getting first downs.
Does this translate into a super bowl winner in 2019? The odds are certainly stacked against that. But we’ll see a much more competitive team, a better record, and perhaps with a couple of good bounces of the football, an appearance in the playoffs.

Don’t always believe everything these so called experts write. Most of them want to be controversial because that sells. In addition, people generally tend to lean toward negativity and to being impatient. And of course, many people are parrots....they just say what they believe someone smarter than them is saying. (Polly want a cracker....)

Last year was tough but any objective Giant fan can see the sky is not falling yet and at the very least is waiting till after the draft to analyze things, which includes our big trade this week. The guys who say we got fleeced without even waiting to see who we get with these 3 draft picks (1,3, 4 returned) aren’t really that knowledgeable or understand how things work. Stay positive and upbeat....it is easier on the heart.

Dan in the Springs : 3/14/2019 8:17 pm : link
but like others have said, your comparison of Tate to OBJ is embarrassingly bad.

You cannot justify it based on production (not even close), and even if you could, the contribution OBJ made by drawing almost constant bracket/double coverage was much greater than can be shown in his results.

Having said that, I think OBJ was just too much of a star for this organization right now. It's not that he was a bad person or player or influence or anything else. He's just a mega-star and this team while rebuilding didn't need someone who was (almost unbelievably) too big for the NY market.
The results will appear -- in due course

Especially the yards per game comparison and your point about drawing double coverage is also very good.

I retract my statement about OBJ being “slightly” better. It was more than that....OBJ is definitely better.
Why did Gettleman
GiantGrit : 3/14/2019 9:34 pm : link
get "taken behind the woodshed".

Basically 2 firsts and a late 3rd. No one addresses the fact they've talked with teams for a full year, they really didn't know what teams were willing to offer? That in negotiation it hurts trying to sell a guy whose been hurt the last 2 years? Keeping him doesn't help. What if he gets hurt again?

They basically got 2 firsts and a 3rd. If you wanted another pick, i can totally understand that. But i just don't see how that is being fleeced.

Very true. But I don’t think it’s unrealwtic to believe this team will play better in 2019. If they play like they did second half they will be in a lot of games. The offense is going to score points. The WRs (barkley) are still more than capable and Engram is there too. Still got the draft, hopefully RT is addressed soon....

Now, if the giants traded up for a qb (please god let it be Murray) then I might take back a lot of my optimism for 2019 because I see the giants addressing those defensive needs early and often in the draft. If they trade up kiss that goodbye but I’d still be thrilled if it’s Murray.

I wanted him and SB together with a fixed OL.....but we have no idea of what really led to the trade....was it his refusal to play those last 4 games? What if he did and we won a couple more games? Oops!

It will be interesting to hear what OBj says about Eli, because you know eventually he will talk about him.....did he feel Eli did not get him the ball enough? Did he feel Eli was not the qb he once was? I don't know......

If we are going into rebuild mode, I just don't understand the Golden signings....

Anyone knocking that trade for OV is beyond missing the huge win for our team.
