They had an interest in Buchanon and Baron fits the same type player - a converted safety who doesn't have the prototypical size for LB but would be better in coverage, can blitz and adds some speed to the middle 4.
There is also a lot of edge rushers in the draft. So you draft an edge rusher and have a solid rotation of Carter, draft pick and Golden. You have improved your safety position. At line, for the base I would have no problems with resigning Mauro as a two down player. The draft adds at minimum depth at other positions.
This isn't the be all end all but Baron was a cut and doesn't factor into the comp equation.
I wouldn't apply that term in this system. You want someone who does a lot more than that (rush interor gaps, drop into zone, run cover a bit...Allen?)
And / or the 'safety worthy' pass defending linebacker, but, if there is one better than the free agent (Bush? Others?) You go for it.
Too often folks apply hope to free agents at (positions they don't favor as much) to justify drafting those they do (WRs, QBs). To look to preclude something, which may negate a real value opportunity or two.
