Golden Tate Highlights

Keaton028 : 3/15/2019 12:06 pm
I know he is a bit older, but this guy brings a toughness you can’t teach. Between him and Barkley, hopefully we see a ton of broken tackles this year. Again, he’s no Odell Beckham, but if he helps this offense be more physical, he is well worth his modest contract. I’ve warmed up a bit to this signing.
The Most Elusive WR In The Game - ( New Window )
No doubt

he is a gamer. Between he and Shep we have two of the better downfield blocking WRs, FWIW.

Tough SOB

Pair them with
Keaton028 : 3/15/2019 12:12 pm : link
Engram, Barkley, and a bigger bodied WR from the draft (my guy is N’Keal Harry), and I think our passing game can still be a good one.

And he is much cheaper, which is important when you have holes to fill. He doesn’t need to be a #1 WR, he’s pretty durable, and he is tough. I’m fine with this signing.
Tough?
KWALL2 : 3/15/2019 12:15 pm : link
He lined up a guy who didn’t see him coming. Nothing tough about that.

And probably a 15 yard penalty.

was Golden Tate and Randall Cobb.

Watching these highlights i can see why.

I have no problem having two of this style WR. If fact, why not add Cobb! Joking a little bit, but if he came at 1/2 of what Tate did, I'd be for it.

Maybe that particular play you deem he wasn’t, but the highlight video I posted has plenty of instances of him stiff-arming guys to the turf and taking big shots with no effect. For his size he is a tough dude.

Lol, it's not about that play - it's about him as a player. He is a very tough dude, a willing blocker and has shown that his entire career. He'll get his nose dirty.

Maybe next time, he'll let Sean Lee know he's coming before he decleats him. I guess that would have been more fair.
.
arcarsenal : 3/15/2019 12:19 pm : link
And no, that's not a penalty. It's a clean, legal block

Not Tate's fault that Lee wasn't looking.
He’s a strong runner
KWALL2 : 3/15/2019 12:19 pm : link
Absolutely. It’s a big plus for him. But that hit was stupid/cheap. Not tough. Can’t do that any more.
Also I believe
Keaton028 : 3/15/2019 12:19 pm : link
this coming season is the very first year they made comeback blocks illegal. So likely this was a legal hit at the time.
Is he a 'locker room' guy?
Dinger : 3/15/2019 12:19 pm : link
I always thought he was a bit of a d*ck, but that may be because he always made the tough plays against us....
He launched with his head
KWALL2 : 3/15/2019 12:20 pm : link
Either way. Penalty or not, nothing tough about that hit.
He was stopping a LB
Keaton028 : 3/15/2019 12:21 pm : link
from chasing down his QB. What was he supposed to do? The hit wasn’t just random in a part of the field where no action was occurring.
I mean we could go back to the 70’s
Keaton028 : 3/15/2019 12:23 pm : link
and 80’s when the league was at its peak in toughness, and see a lot of hits like this.
.
arcarsenal : 3/15/2019 12:25 pm : link
It's fine - given how off KWALL was on Landry last year, maybe slot guys are just a blind spot for him. :)

Tate is a good player. We need another vertical threat - and some physicality outside the hash marks. I'm sure we are not finished at WR for the offseason.

But we can make this entire thread about the legality of a block he threw in a gif I posted from when he was in Seattle if you want!
No Eagle highlights ?

N’Keal Harry? I think he is the goods. Not sold on Metcalf. Too stiff. Many here are touting Hakeem Butler, who admittedly I don’t know much about.

He only played a handful of games for Philly. But here is video versus Washington where he seems to still be making a ton of plays.

On a side note-

Hip hop these days fucking sucks. The songs on a lot of these highlight packages I watch are butt cheeks. I grew up on 90’s and 00’s Hip Hop (Illmatic). This new rap fucking blows.

I definitely see a solid complementary outside guy with Harry - he's another guy who is very willing to block downfield and play with physicality.

I guess my concerns with him would be the lack of a second gear, not much explosion, and his red zone productivity was a bit suspect, I believe.

I haven't watched a ton of him, honestly. Just some clips here and there and have read up on him a bit and those were the things that mostly stuck out.

I do think he profiles as a WR type that would make sense to pair with someone like Tate and Coleman - it gives you the speed guy to run 9's and deep posts/blow the top off, a more physical guy you can hit plays outside the hash marks with (Eli would probably like throwing some back shoulders to this guy) - and then Tate to man the slot underneath and handle all the shorter, YAC-design routes.

Add Engram to the fold. Wouldn't hate it.

Not sure if Harry is the right guy - but he's got some of the stuff I'd be looking for.
I actually like Coleman a lot too
Keaton028 : 3/15/2019 12:50 pm : link
and keep forgetting about him as we use him mostly as a return man. I hope he gets more heavily involved in the offense, he has speed. Glad we kept him around.

90 catches a given. Yes, most will be short passes like Wes Welker but he will move the chains and is tough getting YAC.

Shepherd - Tate—EE—Coleman —Fowler

And who knows who we pick up in the draft. We will be fine here.

Like Harry alot but Hakeem Butler has better speed and gets better separation than NKeal and has had every bit of incredible catches that Nkeal has.

I think any of those 2 or Brown will make good options for our 2nd or even the 17th pick ...
Tate doesn’t carry insane measurables

Kwall hates those guys. The guy can play. He’s been a starting wr on decent offenses like Detroit, who had no running game, and great teams like Seattle. He’s far from a compiler or below average player. You can win with him.
