NFT: Yankee News 3/15 (Sevy)

Beer Man : 3/15/2019 12:12 pm
Cash indicated this morning that Sevy will not return until May-1 at the earliest. Makes you wonder if things are worse than we were told.

It also says Hicks is probably starting the season on the DL.

Ugh. No bueno.
Not shocked about Sevy
Matt in SGS : 3/15/2019 12:17 pm : link
Yankees will be conservative. And with off days and you can anticipate bad weather cancellations in April, they should get by with 4 starters.

Unfortunately, I'm not shocked by Hicks either. He's always hurt.
Can we EVER start a season
rnargi : 3/15/2019 12:19 pm : link
without these injuries? It's every freaking year...we NEVER start at full strength.
I want them to be as cautious as possible with Sevy
Greg from LI : 3/15/2019 12:20 pm : link
Hicks, man, the minute they give him an extension, he gets hurt. Rotten luck

will be an opportunity for someone to step up. Better now than August or September.
Every year with the injuries

Hicks starting on the DL
StingerProf : 3/15/2019 1:09 pm : link
Opens the door for Frazier to make the squad out of spring training. Really need to see what this kid has at this level, so I’m not too upset with Hicks starting the year on the DL. He’s bound to make that trip at least once a season anyway.

Judge is ready to go, man.

Oppo field double. The guy looks like he's already in midseason form. He is going to be a fucking monster.

It's August and September, too! We have major ijuries all year long, every single year.

No, it doesn't. He is struggling this spring and missed a majority of the last season. He is going to AAA and will likely get 300-400 ABs.

The most likely outcome is that Bird and Voit are both kept in April, Gardner moves to CF, Stanton to LF, and a rotation of Bird and Voit at DH and 1B.

It is unlikely that Hicks will be on the IL for long- just long enough to get enough ABs to be ready to play.

I know it's not true, but it just seems like the Red Sox never suffer any major injuries.
Sevy injury and being conservative .... fine
RasputinPrime : 3/15/2019 1:39 pm : link
I still think Cessa has the spot with German in the pen. Loasiga back to AAA.

Hicks starting season on DL will open the door to see both Voit and Bird in the lineup and force Stanton to play some LF.
Hicks' injury means, likely
wigs in nyc : 3/15/2019 1:40 pm : link
that Wade makes the team and backs up as the 4th-outfielder for now.

Wade was always the most likely 25th player on the roster simply because of position flexibility- it has zero to do with Hicks injury. Wade will most likely be on the roster to open the season and stay there, short of ineffectiveness, unless they make a trade for a utility guy.

Hicks' injury is more likely than not going to result in Bird being brought North with the team as opposed to going to AAA to start the season. When Hicks returns, Bird will be sent to AAA.

German looking ok.
Judge with another double.
Sanchez goes the other way.
Tulo with a slow bat.
Boomer with his unique presence on the booth.
Devers with a dropsy

I don't see him as any better with the glove than Andujar.
2-0

Gardy knows he was very close to hitting a grand-slam. He should probably save some of this power for the season.

Velasquez out. He sure does't look like someone who is cut out for life in the AL East.
April schedule is extremely favorable
Kyle in NY : 3/15/2019 1:57 pm : link
they can get by with these injuries until May. Just continue to hope for the best for Sevy beyond that

This is a golden opportunity for Frazier, last season when we needed him he was not there, he had his own injury situation with his concussion syndrome. Now he gets a chance right out of the gate, I am sure he has got to be pumped over this. Gardner can fill in at centerfield for now, so the Hicks injury, although it is worrisome, this is the opportunity for Frazier to grab a spot on this team for good, he performs now and he may never see the minors again. To me this spells good news in a sense for Frazier and for the team if he is for real. This may also open a spot on the roster for Tyler wade, he could be the super utility man they have always craved. Injuries for one player is opportunity for another.

Frazier looked, in almost every AB this spring, like he is rusty, pressing, with a hole in his swing. I think he needs some serious playing time and he isn't going to get that with us unless someone else goes down at the same time Hicks is out. We will need him by the second half regardless and i'd rather he focuses on being ready for that.

LeMahieu finally turns on one and rips it for a double to RF.
Florial has looked better than Frazier

this ST.

With the contract handed out to Hicks, and the prospect that Hicks will move over to LF, future for Frazier with NYY is hazy.

Good performance at Scranton would help his trade value though.

Unfortunately I think you are probably right. If Frazier hits well in AAA i'd say he is the primary piece a trade gets built around during the summer.

Glad to have that resolved in March.

Fangraphs on Jasson Dominguez:

"Scouts throw around some big names when trying to wrap their arms around Dominguez’s package of tools: Yasiel Puig, Bo Jackson, and Yoan Moncada are the most common ones. Dominguez runs the 60-yard dash in anywhere from 6.19 to 6.30 seconds, and is a 70 or 80 runner depending on whom you ask. His frame (5-foot-11, 194 pounds, sculpted like a Greek god), easy plus arm, and quick feet are catching-friendly, and scouts that have seem him try the position say he could probably do it full-time, but it sounds like most evaluators (and likely the Yankees) will develop him in center field to let his bat move more quickly. Some scouts think Dominguez’s hands could work in the infield, but he has very few reps there.

The bat speed and power are obvious, so optimistic scouts see a plus hitter with at least plus raw power and plus game power. Dominguez has already hit some balls 110 mph in batting practice, and his righty swing has now caught up with his natural lefty swing in terms of contact traits."
