This tweet from his agent

Quote:
Mike Remmers just wrapped up a great visit with the New York Giants. Very good chance we could be getting something done with them in the not too distant future.

Damn
Jay on the Island : 3/15/2019 3:24 pm : link
I was hoping that he would sign. He doesn't count in the comp pick equation and he is a solid inexpensive RT. He would be an ideal stopgap.

Not sure 'wrapped up'
Giants in 07 : 3/15/2019 3:25 pm : link
means that he left, but not a good sign. That tweet tells me he's hoping teams get into a little bidding war.

I'm with you; not sure why all the negative reaction.

No, it sounds like the agent is tempting other teams to move quickly, while also leaving the door open for the Giants.

He will not be cheap by the way.
Leaving without a deal isn't the best
ChaChing : 3/15/2019 3:28 pm : link
but now that this is the case, his agent's comments imply there's still a legit shot. I mean for all that our tea leaf reading is worth
That's a pretty upbeat tweet for an agent leaving without a deal.
Big Blue Blogger : 3/15/2019 3:28 pm : link
Maybe he's just "talking his book" to convince other teams that the Giants are still in the mix. I'd rather take it at face value and assume the Giants made a decent offer that didn't quite meet their expectations, so Remmers's side is keeping the bidding open.

Remmers is too old for a Markus Golden-style "prove it" deal. His tomorrow is now. If he signs a modest, short-term deal, it means that's all he could get.
What Can He and His Agent Say
Percy : 3/15/2019 3:31 pm : link
About what the Giants have said to him about contract terms? "Very good chance" and "not too distant future" are annoying come-ons.

If they couldn't get it done when they had them in the room, the odds of it happening go way down. Really, he had to go home and talk to his wife?
If he signs does that potentially disqualify Dillard at 17?
The_Boss : 3/15/2019 3:32 pm : link
I sure hope not. Remmers wouldnt be a long term solution in my opinion.

Well, he's a plug-and-play OL starter, so of course he won't be cheap. But the guarantees beyond Year 1 could depend largely on his physical condition.
"Very

IDK, could be?

No way it does. This is the move he's making based on present situation. If they grab a Ford at 17, Remmers becomes starter/mentor and eventually key reserve.

@TesslerSports

Just to clarify, nothing imminent between Mike Remmers and the New York Giants. The interest is mutual and we will be staying in touch. Good chance something could happen a little further down the road.

I look at it differently. Like any team, the Giants want to stick to their board. If an OT is in the top tier at #17 (or #37), there's a good chance he's the pick, with or without Remmers. My concern would be the prospect of forcing a high pick because the alternative is another season of Chad Wheeler.

My biggest disappointment is that it probably means one less top D guy in the first 3 picks. And if we go QB and OL, the D picks will really suffer

Not if the Giants knew he was till recovering. He has to pass a physical for the contract to become valid. No sense in lying about your physical condition.

I agree. I'd like to think a RT is going to be one of the first three picks, but you never know how the board will play. A really great prospect could be there for the taking that isn't a RT.

Don't force a pick.

Remmers gives you insurance for at least 2019.........

Sounds like reason for optimism,
We should move on to Ryan Schraeder
Eric on Li : 3/15/2019 3:51 pm : link
by most metrics he's been similar caliber player, probably even a little better, and has still been a RT the last few years. In 2017 pff graded him as one of the better T's in all football.
If not Remmers...
Capt. Don : 3/15/2019 3:53 pm : link
Then get Schraeder or Kalil on a 1 year deal. No comp pick penalty w those two.

my guess is that if both sides knew there were phyical issues standing in the way of getting a deal done, jtgiants would have put a different spin on this meeting, rather than saying he expected it to be resolved this afternoon, one way or another

Lot's of reading into this thing
USAF NYG Fan : 3/15/2019 4:00 pm : link
I always felt that the only time a player would sign before he leaves the building is when they are blown away by an offer and said team says it's only good if they sign before they leave.

Let's do the bidding thing and take our time. Don't overreach more than necessary.
It sounds pretty simple.
DonQuixote : 3/15/2019 4:05 pm : link
The Giants gave them a take it or leave it deal and they are going to shop it around a bit. What's the mystery? I'm sure there's a limit on a day or so before the window closes, but it makes sense.
Is it fairly common..
Dillon in Va : 3/15/2019 4:17 pm : link
for a FA to come in for a visit, leave without a contract but still wind up signing with that team? Has that worked out for the Giants before?
