Bold prediction of the day (trade with NE for 64th pick)!

Milton : 3/15/2019 4:06 pm
The Giants will trade either Engram, Janoris, or possibly Shepard to the Patriots for the 64th pick. Other pieces may also be involved (maybe even Lauletta). I think Engram would be the most likely.

Just spitballing here, but the Patriots have been in the market for a TE and slot receiver with not much to show for it so far (off the top of my head, maybe I missed something) and they can always use another CB. On top of that, they have a ton of draft picks, so it's smart for them to sacrifice some of that draft stock for a quality veteran who can help them get back to the Super Bowl for the 4th year in a row.

The Patriots have the 56th, 64th, and 73d pick in the draft, so giving up one of those three picks wouldn't be such a bitter pill to swallow. The 64th pick is in a key spot because I anticipate a major run on interior OL in the 3rd round and it's better to be at the beginning of a run than at the end of it (which is what the 95th pick represents). Someone like Deiter has a good chance of being available with the 64th pick, but not such a good chance of being available with the 95th pick.

And Deiter would be a great young addition to the OL. He can play OG at a high level, ORT at a serviceable level, and ultimately be the team's starting OC (as I see it).
Trading Engram now....
BillKo : 3/15/2019 4:07 pm : link
......I just don't see that, esp after giving OBJ away.

He's been a disappointment, but there's seem to be those who think the light bulb went off midseason with him......

Plus, he's under our control for three more years?
I really don't want to give up Engram yet
Jay on the Island : 3/15/2019 4:09 pm : link
He came on strong to finish the year. I am in full support of trading Shepard for a 2nd since he will be an UFA at seasons end. I don't think he is worth the 10+ million it will cost to keep him.

Shep makes more sense, he's a FA next year and Golden is basically going to take his slot position.

I would like to see how Shep plays on the outside first though........
I don't know why we'd
Pep22 : 3/15/2019 4:11 pm : link
give up on a cost controlled (for 3 more years) TE who has this much potential

I'm with you on Engram. Unless he's a locker room problem, I'd like to keep JJ. And Shep is not going to bring anything close to a 2nd. You'd be lucky to get a 4th
Trading Engram for a 6th pick is insanity
GeofromNJ : 3/15/2019 4:17 pm : link
With Brady throwing to him, he'll score double digit TDs with room to spare.
Was just think of you, Milton

You must be on pins and needles waiting for some Josh Rosen news.
And we do what, draft another TE?
Giantology : 3/15/2019 4:22 pm : link
No, just keep Engram. Stop giving away first round talent for lesser picks.
I’d
cokeduplt : 3/15/2019 4:25 pm : link
Be furious if they traded Engram. He’s a playmaker the only one we have now outside of Barkley. You cannot trade him now that OBJ is gone!
I'd want to make sure Hockenson was in the cards

before pulling the trigger.

There's a difference between first round talent and first round picks- see Flowers, Apple, Pugh, etc. Book is still open on Engram, imo
Engram is the only one of those 3
Lionhart28 : 3/15/2019 4:29 pm : link
that might even get a 2nd in return. I don't think we should let him go though.

Straight up, yes. For Janoris or Shepard to garner the 64th pick would require additional pieces.

Not really, because I think the probability is low. But Rosen and Drew Lock are the only QBs who interest me at this point. That could change.

p.s.--belated HBD!
As for Engram
Milton : 3/15/2019 4:44 pm : link
I just think he's too much of a tweener and if I'm right about that, his trade value will never be higher than it is now. He's too stiff to play WR and not physical enough to help much in the running game. If the Giants could trade him for Mike Deiter (or Erik McCoy) I consider that a win.

Like I said earlier, this draft is loaded with quality interior OL who can play center or guard (and some who can play tackle as well). But the 37th pick will be too soon for them and the 95th pick will be too late.
There is an Asshat thread
Beer Man : 3/15/2019 4:55 pm : link
that says the Giants have given some thought to moving Jenkins, Shepherd, and Ogletree, but it didn't mention Engram.
Awesome Idea!
Jim in Tampa : 3/15/2019 5:09 pm : link
Let's trade our athletic TE who was coming on at the end of the year for a pick at the bottom of the 2nd RD, so that we can draft OL.

4 out of the 5 OL positions are set. If the Giants are that hot to draft another with a top pick they can use 17 or 35, without having to give up on Engram. (I doubt seriously the Pats would consider Jenkins or Shepard for that pick.)
Honestly, Shepherd

Would probably be perfect for them

Last year and the season before, when OBj was out, we split him out wide and he was not effective.....he is a one trick pony, a slot receiver.......

Cruz was the same thing.....he was a slot receiver who we split out, after we drafted Shepard....Cruz was not as effective as a wideout....
Why do the Pats need a slot receiver?
bw in dc : 3/16/2019 2:36 am : link
They have Edelman and some think they are still high on Braxton Berrios.

If anything, they need something more vertical.
