$11.5M per year over the first two years. When we were paying OBJ $18M/year. Stupid is as stupid does.

The dude has never missed a game and looks to be in incredible shape, taking care of his mind and body pretty well. Quit making excuses for wanting to hate on him. Don’t blame him for us trading Odell. Give him the RESPECT he has earned and deserves. He is a GREAT player and teammate.

Well said.

Yea it’s not like the giants needed a wr or anything.
It’s not that it doesn’t matter. It just doesn’t matter to the extreme some posters are making it seems. Golden Tate was signed to provide leadership, stability, and improve the culture. All of that matters, especially on this team that lacked so much of each. Hopefully he’s playing here for a while but his job is to go to work right now. We have plenty of time between now and when he’s very cuttable to find upgrades at the position.
Still doesn't make a ton of sense if we're going to a full rebuild, which was the only possible justification for the Odell trade (which is still insufficient), but it's a nod to fans and completely not sucking -- and it's a decent deal for Tate to be honest.
Since I'm not giving up being a fan of the team despite the Odell trade absurdity I'll take this as something that will make Sundays slightly more enjoyable the next couple years and move on.
Golden Tate is a guy who produces, is a good locker room guy from all accounts, and has been relatively injury free. When guys like Devin Funchess are getting $13M for one year, this looks like a bargain. Funchess always seems to be playing with some sort of injury and has never put up more than 840 yards in a season.
Seriously, he's a good player who seems to have plenty of football left. Are the Giants paying a premium for character? Absolutely. Maybe it's worth it, maybe not. The last time this team aimed for culture change, they drafted a bunch of college captains who couldn't play. But there are positive precedents too, including 1984 and 2007.
If the Giants have been clear on anything is that they are rebuilding the team culture. Tate is part of That rebuild. If successful, that will last more than two years.
