Dianna Russini of ESPN reports the Giants are not heavily scouting Haskins and have no intent on taking him in April’s draft barring an unforeseen change. “About a week after the Combine, I circled back with some [Giants] people like, ‘What are you thinking Haskins? Do you guys like him? Do you think you are going for it with your No. 6 pick?’” Russini said on ESPN’s Breaking Big Blue podcast. “It was, ‘No, actually. We are not doing a lot of work on him.’ “I spoke to a few people. I’ll paraphrase one: ‘He doesn’t fit with us.’ The idea that they are not going go after a quarterback with the No. 6 pick solidifies they are not giving up on Eli (Manning).” Early indications are that it may be Murray of bust for the Giants at No. 6, leaving them to select from one of the draft’s elite defensive prospects, which would be a satisfactory secondary option. “I think we should be pretty confident they are going to go defense with that (No. 6) pick,” Russini said. “I think they are going to draft a quarterback. I just don’t think it’s going to be Haskins.” |

Anybody ever thought that they show no interest to signal to other teams, who are thinking of jumping in front of them? Interested or not, you can't show any interest. This information also goes against Oliver's asshat info. Not believing anything, until it happens.
They'll have a contingent there for sure since there are other OSU players they will be scouting in any event.
Little contradictory

The won't get Murray at 6.
Of course I want that sexy blonde beast from Clemson, but he's not coming out till 21.
Eli and Jones built a relationship through Cutliffe.
He does kind of remind me of Collins... can’t argue there. What we won’t know until he plays is how he progresses throughout his career. Collins pretty much hit a ceiling early on, then bottomed out with all the off the field crap, got rescued, reached a ceiling again and never got any better. Time will tell.
I really have no problem with either direction as long as they get a beast. To me it’s murray, who won’t be there or defensive bpa at pick 6. I can live with either. I can also live with Eli if the OL is fixed, and it’s very close.
Perfect analogy
I'm not suggesting they're necessarily high on him (or not) but not interested in scouting him? I'm calling bullshit.

Same here, if anything this may mean they are more interested in him and this could be a smoke screen to keep teams from jumping ahead of them.
I don’t teally want Haskins but the leftwich comp is crap

I've already seen Kerry Collins play QB here. Don't need to run it back.
Perfect analogy
Collins was a decent QB here. If Haskins is as good as Collins I have no issue drafting him. Collins didn’t have a RB anything like Barkley (he had young Tiki who coughed up the ball a lot in the Fassel era).
Kerry got us to a super bowl. I would mind running back to that.
If Haskins turns out to be Kerry Collins, that’s severely underwhelming
He said he heard that the Giants really don’t have him on their board anymore. That they’ve moved on from him as a top round prospect.
Ding ding! This is the same reporter who wrote a few days ago, before they traded for pick 17, that the Giants were definitely drafting a defender at 6. This new assertion means very, very little.
He said he heard that the Giants really don’t have him on their board anymore. That they’ve moved on from him as a top round prospect.
What is the reasoning? That he can't run? I didn't hear the show. I think Haskins is going to be a stud. But what I think doesn't matter in the Giants' selection process.

was saying this yesterday on his radio show, too.

I sort of caught the tail end. So I didn’t get the full context.
I think it centered around the Combine and the Giants came away just not blown away. Whether that was his work in drills and/or the interview, I don’t know.
That's what she is saying more or less. There have been rumors about their interest in Stidham. And of course Jones if he drops some, like to 37 or better yet 95. Then you have Grier and Finley and Rypien. Not to mention my pet pick Lock.
Isn't one of Shurmur's strengths his ability to develop QBs? Lauletta appears to be pissing away his chances, but if they think Eli still has it, why wouldn't they toss a mid round pick into the QB pond once again?
Of course that directly contradicts what Gettleman said before the combine, but he's getting known to prevaricate a bit now and then.
Yea, don’t want to create any quarterback controversy if Eli struggles, “Paul Dottino school of thought “
Yea anyone that would like to get a younger quarterback to begin the transition is an Eli hater.
I live Eli, what I hate is so called Giants fans who are bigger Eli fans than Giants fans
Not to revisit this debate, but this was the risk with not taking Darnold last year. It’s a hard position to fill.
I wouldn't mind Lock there as well. Lock is probably getting taken by Denver.

If they’re passing on Haskins to waste a pick on Stidham, Grier, Finley or Rypien we’re in a lot of trouble.
Stop trying to turn mid round QBs into franchise QBs
Haskins is as mobile as a dead tree and has one year of true experience, most of that in a dink and dunk offense.
