Had a realization today. This is offenses personnel = Rams

Breeze_94 : 3/15/2019 9:45 pm
The Giants personnel right now is very similar to the Rams the last couple of years. This offense could be pretty dangerous if you add in a young QB.

Barkley is our Gurley, but decidedly better.

Shep/Tate are pretty interchangeable with Kupp/Woods. All of these guys are undersized and rely on quickness, route running, and attacking defenses in the middle of the field and underneath instead of vertically.

Engram is a way better weapon than any of LA's TE's, but him and Gerald Everett are similar in play style. Speedy, move Tight Ends.

Giants just need to find a vert threat like Cooks to man the outside receiver spot.

Giants have a strong interior OL now with one of the best guard tandems in the league (hopefully), and Solder is the Giants version of Whitworth- solid vet tackle (Whitworth is obviously better but Solder was very good down the stretch last year)

Also similar in scheme- lots of motion, play action, and crossing routes.
Agree with much of this

but I’ll take Kupp and Woods over Shep and Tate. I like Shep and Tate but Kupp looks like a rising star as long as he is able to come back from that knee last year.

Unfortunately they have McVay and we have Shurmur.
The offense is similar

The problem...the defense is not

McVay isn't that bad, just young.

I think he was saying McVay is > Shurmur.
Here some news

Offense can be pretty dangerous with Eli if the line is decent

Why are we looking for comps?
ajr2456 : 3/15/2019 10:21 pm : link
And Woods and Kupp > Tate and Shepard. It’s not close tbh.
We have no

their Oline was vastly better. Even CJ Anderson was running wild for them behind that line. This year the line has improved, but are they good? I'm not confident yet
The Rams had all pros and pro bowlers at offensive line

Two of our starting five are Chad Wheeler and a guy with 2 career starts at Center.

Hmm ... I wonder if the Giants maybe traded a guy just like that?
I get Woods, but I don't understand the love for Kupp over Shep
ChaChing : 3/16/2019 12:00 am : link
They have almost the same production to a T. And while recovery is not as tough today, Kupp has an ACL being especially dependent on quick twitch & change of direction, more than even just straight line speed. Shep is healthy

Actually looking at Woods as well, while he is younger and on the upswing, he's had 1 big year. Tate has 3-4 in the last 5. I'd probably prefer Woods today but I'm not sure those WRs are so much better. If Eli didn't have much team support, you'd argue these guys had the same disadvantages compared to the Rams O. And still had comparable production on a shit team...
My bad...only Shep on a bad team
ChaChing : 3/16/2019 12:02 am : link
Tate obviously had a different back story, mostly mid season trade and new O...fwiw. But still not the advantages of playing in the same solid O a few years in a row
SHEP is a lunchpail type
OBJ_AllDay : 3/16/2019 12:20 am : link
And a willing blocker. But let’s not pretend he doesn’t run in quicksand and disappear for large stretches. Also drops his fair share of balls
Rams OL Much Better
Samiam : 3/16/2019 12:23 am : link
Krupp is also way better than Shep
Not seeing it
SLIM_ : 3/16/2019 4:10 am : link
You mentioned that we don't have a Cooks yet. We do have an Ellison. I think someone provided a stat last year regarding their personnel package is almost strictly 1-1. We've seen at the end of last year that the best package seemed to be 2 tight ends and we have heard some rumors that the focus will be on that package moving forward.

Kool-Aid, it's a helluva drug
HomerJones45 : 3/16/2019 9:18 am : link
and the OP swallowed it by the gallon.
more relevant than LAR are offenses Shurmur has run like MIN '17
Eric on Li : 3/16/2019 9:29 am : link
Cook = Barkley
Diggs = Shepard
Tate = Thielen
Rudolph = Engram

Obviously those aren't direct matches, and in Cook's case he got hurt in the first month, but in the big picture of equivalent talents, it's pretty close.

That year the Vikings had the 10th ranked offense with Case Keenum at QB. Their rebuilt OL was solid but also didn't have a single player on it who had ever been to a pro bowl. They were #2 in rushing attempts.

They were also #1 in overall defense, but that's another story.
