Do you think the Giants will re-sign any of these UFAs?

Hades07 : 3/16/2019 10:47 am
Not really asking if they should, just if you think they will re-sign any of these guys:

-Russell Shepard
-Bennie Fowler
-Kerry Wynn
-John Jenkins
-Jordan Williams
Shepard maybe

Maybe Wynn and Shepard?

Fowler looked ok late in the year as well.
I would love Wynn back

Great specials, solid backup
So want Wynn back
BillT : 3/16/2019 10:53 am : link
Thought he played really well in rotation last year. We need some DL backups.

I'm actually surprised that Wynn is still out there. I thought he was perceived as a decent rotational player or above average backup.

Me too, didn’t the Pats try to get him last year?
Some but not all of them.
Red Dog : 3/16/2019 10:58 am : link
Kerry Wynn should definitely be re-signed. He's a good run stopper, is getting better at rushing the passer, and is a really good special teamer.

Russell Shepard could be re-signed. He's got some ability as a receiver and is a very decent gunner on the punt team.

Bennie Fowler is a veteran (including 4 years with the Broncos) who can catch the ball, but with Golden Tate, Sterling Shepard, Corey Coleman, Cody Latimer who should be and will probably be re-signed, and one or two others (2nd year man Jawill Davis, punt returner Quadre Henderson, Special Teamer Brittan Golden, etc.) possibly including a rookie, there may not be room for him. He might actually be more valuable to the GIANTS by signing elsewhere as a Qualified Unrestricted Free Agent.

Kerry Wynn is probably the best pre-season player on the team. Gotta keep him. But seriously, he's probably been around long enough that he's looking for some money. OTOH, we've let Mauro and Edwards go, can we really afford to lose all our backup DEs?
The issue with Wynn might be system fit.
Big Blue Blogger : 3/16/2019 11:07 am : link
He could be worth more to another team. Random example: the Panthers, who are thin at DE and play much closer to Wynn's roots.

Draft someone in the late rounds to replace him. Cheaper version

...And/or get a real nose tackle and put Tomlinson in the 5-tech rotation with Hill, McIntosh, Pierre and whoever.

Agreed. Always hustling too.

One consideration is the number of draft picks we have. That may

make it harder for some players wanting to return.
Yes. You need 90 guys on your preseason roster.
Ivan15 : 3/16/2019 11:35 am : link
Don’t you think that most of the 60 guys on the roster and practice squad at the end of 2018 should be considered for the 90-man camp roster?

Unless they get a better offer.

It isn’t like they were all involved in a prison riot!

considered doesn't mean hired. Why you would think they don't consider their own guys is beyond me. They already know exactly what they are and have already evaluated the entire roster from last year. I am sure they assign a value to everyone, and know exactly what that is.
None of them
HomerJones45 : 3/16/2019 12:57 pm : link
This is the 70's all over again where hopes, dreams and good performances in meaningless games in December supplant a body of work that screams otherwise. Ask yourself, would any of those guys get substantial PT with any other team. If the answer is "no", why do we want them?

Sheppard and Fowler were home on the couch at the beginning of the season. Wynn is 28, has been hanging around for 5 years and is never going to be starting material. Jenkins and Williams are never will be's.

You want to get better, you've got to cut ties with guys like this that will never amount to anything. You are better off bringing in other teams cuts and UDFA's because you might find an actual player or two. You know you won't find one in this bunch- stop wasting time with them.

good point
I think that the new mindset is to be conservative in signing

JAGs if you can replace them adequately in the draft, since they may yield a late round pick for us next year if signed by someone else.

Wynn
Fowler
Shep

Whereas I think we draft heavily into front 7, I still see Wynn, yet as a role playing OLB, and extra line piece as well as fill in DL

Named as OLB #4 for roster purposes with a high draft pick starting at 3/4 DE as well as his side OLB
"in addition to one on his side OLB"
