So far the holes before and after this first FA push

USAF NYG Fan : 3/16/2019 2:27 pm
Feel free to tell me what I missed. I'm just going to name positions that I feel are holes for a starter quality player. They don't have to be superstars at this point. Just at least starter quality players and they are in no particular order.

Before:
QB (Only because I'll get attacked for not including)
SS (We knew we were not going to sign Collins for that much)
FS
CB #2 or #3 quality (Not knowing what Beal will be yet)
Pass Rusher (10 sack pass rusher quality)
OC
RG
RT
WR #2 quality outside

After:
QB (Only because I'll get attacked for not including)
CB #2 or #3 quality (Not knowing what Beal will be yet)
Pass Rusher (10 sack pass rusher quality)
OC
RT
WR #1 quality outside
WR #2 quality outside??? (Can Sheppard or Tate fill in as a #2 outside WR?. Neither are #1 quality outside.)

Now they have, what, 3 to 5 draft positions to get day 1 starters with. This depends on how well they do in the draft, moving up or down, position and where picked, etc. Do they gameplan for 2 slot receivers, pick up another WR, or pass catching TE somewhere? The Golden Tate move is confusing me a bit.
hard to believe

we need wr again
Tate is a curious move.

He can be insurance for Shep if he isn't retained. It could give Gettleman incentive to trade Shep.

But if Shep is still here I think they can play together. They are similar in stature but similar in their feisty styles. And the most important part is that the WR FA market was bare. Tate was by far the best player available by far.
Good idea for analysis

I agree with most of it.

Think we still need FS. Neither JP or AB are real FS.

Also think we need two pass rushers now.
For defense,I would add

Down lineman: Right now, it's Tomlinson, Hill and ??.

ILB: Goodson is both injury prone and not that good.

Safety: Bethea is 35 in July.

Will go ER in the draft but I think they love the potential in Carter.

Agree with this... LB needs to be on this list.

Reply is to all so far ....

-I was torn on whether we can call Marcus Golden a starter quality #2 pass rusher. So I agree that's a question mark if he doesn't return to form.

-I think Bethea is a starter quality FS for now but I agree he's old and will need replacing. For now, it's an upgrade and he's a starter.

-Down lineman, I just don't understand letting Snacks go myself. Must have been part of the culture change. Yes, I did forget a down lineman

-I agree on ILB being a need as well. I forgot that Goodson isn't giving us much.

Side note, not sure why we got rid of Jones either. I thought he was at least a low grade starter quality OC.

They need a high quality MLB alongside Ogletree. They also need two passrushers — this can come in the form of two classic ER’s or 1 ER and a 3-4 DE that can rush the passer.

Secondary depth, but not high priority in FA or the draft.

RT upgrade preferably through the draft. Center upgrade would be nice but I think they can wait on that.

An outside WR with size in the Green/Julio/Plax mold. They don’t need that talent level necessarily but they need that skill set.

Funny -- you almost had me there.

For a minute I really did contemplate counting on Sam Beal and Grant Haley.
I don't see it as holes and next season

The secondary depth won’t matter if the front 7 is solidified.

Sure, because an NFL caliber offense won't adjust and game plan to expose an untalented secondary.

The Giants right now would start a player who couldn't make it one practice without needing a 2nd procedure on the same shoulder.

Yep, the eagles really looked like shit last year with street FAs littered throughout their secondary.

Do you remember who started in the secondary for the Giants in the Dallas playoff game in 07?
