Interesting FA stage coming up... the leftovers

Eric from BBI : Admin : 3/16/2019 2:50 pm
FA is always the same each year... there is the early rush... big money... "overspending"... then there are a bunch of players left who thought they were going to get paid, but now are finding that teams are unwilling to give them what they expect.

Reality sits in after a few days... and then a little panic. Phase two of free agency... bargain hunting is about to begin...

Also keep a look out for players who get cut.
What I loved this year

We did not overspend for the players we got, and that included our own who were resigned. Unlike last year, No one can accuse us of that this year.

You are the only one who thinks we overpaid for the best WR on the free agent market. 9 m for a guy who catches 90+ a year.
Wer overspend

On leftovers. Another head scratcher with Tate, just like they did with Marshall Newhouse, Shane Vereen, Keenan Robinson, Quintin Demps, Jameel McClain, JD Walton, Geoff Schwartz, Kareem Martin, Nate Solder, Patrick Omameh, Jonathan Stewart, just to name a few of the gems.
Bryce Callahan

Surprised he hasn’t signed.

He would be a good add to appease the, “we need a 10th corner, we need a coverage LB, we need a 4th safety” crowd.

In all seriousness he was a very good slot corner last year who can blitz. Seems like he’d be a good fit here.

He signed with the Broncos.

signed last night to a three-year, $21 million deal with $10 million guaranteed.
This is actually where I was very disappointed in DG last season

In his first run with the Giants, this is where he shined. Signing 2nd tier FAs and castoffs that ended up big contributors to the team.

Madison Hedgecock? Kavika Mitchell? Jim Finn?

We didn't get much of that mojo last season.
Anymore "goldens" out there?
micky : 3/16/2019 3:58 pm : link
Maybe go for the "silvers" now

To finish with a Bronze

our starting C and RG for the 2nd half of the season as well as the FB we now have a were all just like that. I mean we won 5 games but do we even do that without Brown and Pulley kind of steadying the interior when we actually started scoring.

Webb was a steal and could net us a comp pick next year too. Michael Thomas wasnt a bad pickup.

If we're counting hedgecock, then penny should count too.
We absolutely overspent for Golden Tate

That was a shit signing IMO, borne out of desperation.

WRs on the wrong side of 30 coming off of a year of decreased production are trouble.

Only $9m if he plays out the contract. Isn't it more likely he's cut after 2 years at $11.5M per?
Hedgecock

Came to the Giants on waivers.

Agree on this...
Folks don't give Brown, and to a much lesser extent Pulley, enough credit for the lines improvement. Yes, Brown was beaten badly a few times. However, most of the time he held his ground, he gave Manning a pocket to step up into. Omameh was easily driven back. Once Manning could step up, Solder's favorite trick of pushing DE out deep behind the QB started working. When Manning coulnd't step up, all Solder was doing was pushing the DE right into Eli. This is one of the subtleties of line play that people mean when they say that a good line is more than the sum of its parts.

The first half of 2018 Tate was right on pace for 90 receptions and 1000 yards. After he got traded to the Eagles his production tailed off. I think he's still the guy who played the first half.

Doesn't Tate do punt returns also?
