Jabrill Peppers versatility in this defense

Toth029 : 3/16/2019 2:59 pm
I guess you can say I'm one of those fans who loved the Odell trade. Sure, the Giants lost Collins, but I think getting Peppers is an upgrade for Bettcher's defense.

I think he is much more well-rounded than Collins has been since joining the team. Collins is the more efficient tackler but we can't pay huge money for that. They missed out on Deone Buchannon too, but I think Peppers can fill that role. He's extremely talented. Time will tell what type of impact he can make and how others around him elevate their own games (Beal is an intriguing prospect).

Any one else excited to see him play? I should mention he is just 23 years old.

I admit that I haven't followed him since he entered the league

His highlight video from last season was extremely impressive and I am confident that he will be an upgrade over the Landon Collins that we saw the previous two seasons. Peppers is a great athlete and I know that Bettcher will take advantage of his skill set.

Love this young man in our defense...

He’s a better player than LC, much better in coverage, better blitzer, better on the ball in the air, and cheaper and younger. This was a good trade. Really looking forward watching Peps make plays for Big Blue.
better fit

I agree, I think Peppers is a better fit for Bettcher's defense. Based on what I have read, Bettcher likes to play single-high. This requires safeties that can cover man-to-man. Bettcher also likes his defensive players to be versatile. The article I linked highlights Peppers' versatility, which I am sure attracted Bettcher and the Giants to making the trade.

Quote:
Through the first 14 games of 2018, Peppers has played 261 snaps at free safety, 164 snaps in the box, 116 snaps as an edge defender, 83 snaps at slot corner and 41 snaps out wide at cornerback.

I have to say, Peppers looks damn impressive in coverage.

The scout said he doesn’t break on the ball well from FS. However, when he picks his man up off the line or is handed a receiver off in coverage, he looks like a blanket. Maybe the Giants have finally found someone that can cover a TE?
