I've been binging on James Bonds Films for about a week now and I am confused. I'm not a big gambler, but when I do go to a casino (once every 10 years or so), I play Black Jack, or go to the poker machines when I've lost too much money.

Anyway, I've seen several Bond films now (happen to be watching George Lazenby as Bond in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" and I'm only 5 minutes) and sure enough, he walks into a casino and plays the same game every Bond character plays. Players get two cards and they get scooped up by a long flat board...sort of like a real skinny pizza board.

My question: What the hell game are they playing? Never seen it in my life. It doesn't look anything more complicating than the game of War I played when I was 6 years old with my brothers...except you get one card. Seems like an awfully low minded game for such rich and sophisticated people....yet it's always the game played by Bond. Can anyone tell me what the game is, how it's won, and do American Casinos have a table for that simplest of ridiculously simple games?

As a side note (or question rather), who's your favorite Bond character and movie. I like Brosnon (my favorite), but he doesn't get a lot of fanfare for his playing the role. I also liked Timothy Dalton and Roger Moore...basically in that order. I don't care for Craig or Connery. Haven't made up my mind on Lazenby yet. What be your take?

sorry for the quick response.

I didn't read through where you asked how to play. It isn't a common game among the low rollers. You might find a game here or there. But you won't find the volume of tables that you find with blackjack. It is always found in the high roller area.
Baccarat card game - ( New Window )
Huh

Watched a 4 minute YouTube video on how to play it and it takes about 60 seconds to become an expert. Still, there's more to it than just who has the highest hand and is more interesting than I suspected. Regardless, thanks

if the house can make money, they will offer the action. I cannot remember the casino that I was in. We were hopping from casino to casino with plenty of drinking. But we came upon a place that had War. Blew our minds that we hadn't seen it at other places, and of course wound up wasting some time losing money and rekindling childhood memories of playing.
It was the cool European card game for high rollers

Bond plays Hold'em in Casio Royale, the last card game in the Bond films to date.
Complete opposite take on Bonds

thought Brosnan was awful. Connery and Craig is tops for me.
I like Brosnan

Roger Moore was lame imo.

Connery is tops, then Craig, then Brosnan. That's my list.

Note that there are two principal forms of baccarat. The one you see in US casinos (exclusively I think), is called Punto Banco. In this form, the casino always serves as banker and pays all bets. Additionally, there is no player control over the drawing of cards: whether a card is drawn or not is set in the rules.

What you see James Bond playing in the movies is the other style: Chemin de fer. In this form, individual players take turns serving as banker/dealer. On each hand they offer a stake against which the other players can bet. The players in this form also have some freedom on whether to draw a card or not.

Brosnan was a great Bond. It's just that the scripts and movies he was in absolutely sucked.

Will always be the best James Bond. The series peaked with Goldfinger. From Russia With Love is a close second.

Daniel Craig is good in the reboot and with today’s movie technology much more more can be done action wise.

Dalton is third.

Followed by Brosnan.

And Moore and Lazenby should never have been cast.

standard, then each other Bond actors needs to be matched against him.

Roger Moore was too suave, too sophisticated for my liking.

Pierce Brosnan was the closest to Connery - smooth with a touch of edge. Refined. I liked him best after Connery.

Timothy Dalton and Roger Craig were mostly edge, more tough guy than suave. Bull in a china shop types. But I liked their portrayals and of the two I like Craig a touch more than Dalton.

Lazenby was just lost and the guy that followed Connery - bad luck. Kind of stiff...

Each had his interpretation of the character. And yes the luck of the script was meaningful. Some of Moore's scripts with Jaws were cringe worthy.

FWIW, IMHO ...

It’s Daniel Craig, but the Roger Craig reference got me reminiscing and I spent a few hours watching old Giants 49ers game, lol.
I liked them all to one degree or another except Dalton

+1 for this order. Maybe Dalton, and Brosnan with a tie. I remember that they were trying to cast Brosnan for a few years before he was able to commit to being Bond, that may have changed the order a bit.
Who should be the next Bond?

It’s time.

My choice would be Henry Cavill.

I think it should be “rebooted” as a true origins story, allowing them to get an up and coming, young actor. Most of the rumored people are either too old (Elba) or crappy actors (Hiddelston, Cavill, etc). Cavill can pull off the action easily (he was great in Mission Impossible) but I really can’t stand him as an actor.

James Norton (Happy Valley) would be my choice as of now.
I liked Lazenby

and Connery as mortal Bonds

Moore was fantastic as over the top cartoonish Bond.

Brosnan was good, but as noted, script/production was sub par.

Dalton was sub par, as were the scripts.

I absolutely hate Craig and the scripts. It's a struggle to finish the movie. Others like him, so I won't say he sucks, but IMO, he's the worst Bond, and it'll be tough to top him in being a horrible choice for the role.
Hated Moore
Anakim : 3/17/2019 11:53 am : link
James Bond is supposed to be this young, suave, debonair Casanova. Moore looked like he was verging on collecting from AARP.

Dalton never fit in.

Ringo Starr's wife was the hottest Bond girl
when was Bond ever young?
fkap : 3/17/2019 12:32 pm : link
they all pushed the wrong side of middle aged when they started. As the longest lasting, Moore would naturally look older at the end.

He looked old in the beginning! Bond is supposed to be in his 30's/early 40's. Moore looked like he was about to collect social security.
