...thinking about where the Giants need help, and thinking about these two picks synergistically, I keep coming back to the idea of (realistically) being able to select Devin White at 6 and Devin Bush at 17.
IMO, it comes down to this: How many years have we gone without a LBer who can drop back in coverage? And is also considered an effective blitzer? Both White and Bush can do both!
IMO, of the two, D. White (at 6) is the easier of the two selections. Meaning, we will probably have more choices at 17 (of similar value) that are just as tempting as Bush, such as a:
(1) Center like Garrett Bradbury;
(2) Offensive Tackle like Andre Dillard;
(3) Cornerback like Greedy Williams
(4) Wide Receiver like A.J. Brown
(5) Defensive Tackle like Jeffrey Simmons
(6) Tight End like Noah Fant (or, wishful thinking T.J. Hockenson);
Would love them all, but in the end, teaming the two Devins together could in one fell swoop:
(A) Upgrade in dramatic fashion a very poor LBer unit;
(B) Take away the gaping, yawning soft zones downfield;
(C) Provide adept one-on-one coverage against TEs and RBs
(D) Apply significant pressure from the LBer position.
At 17 I wouldn’t take a wr I don’t think the value is there. In the second I would go WR at 17 I would take the best available ER/DL or OT.
In the second round you can draft one of n’keal harry, AJ brown, Hakeem butler, marquise brown. Hard pass on Metcalf even if he was their in the top of the 2nd. I would love butler the perfect compliment to shep and Tate.
Vosean Joseph and Terrill Hanks
I’d love Devin White at 6 but if they go somewhere else with the pick then Joseph and Hanks would be great value
An edge rusher, a wide receiver or tight end, an offensive tackle or if you want to, go with a corner or DL.
Anyone who thinks it’s a good idea to waste premium picks to bundle and trade up for Murray or Haskins needs their sanity checked. Neither are worthy players and we are not in position to make such a gamble.
At 17, things get murky. If you don’t get a pass rusher at 6 (White wouldn’t be considered one), you need to look at the best available at 17.
You should be able to get a servicable OL with our second rounder, the run on defensive players will push one down.
On a separate note, I think J. Simmons is more than likely off the Giants draft board.
Agreed
I hear ya! I've blabbed on and on about Center being the most important position on the team after QB. I also believe that the Giants offensive line of the mid-1980s did not really gel until we got Bart Oates out of the defunct USFL. He kept the middle of the pocket clean for Phil Simms, ridiculously clean, especially in Super Bowl XXI against Denver!
Do you sense moving up to #1 to get Murray, or say #3 for Haskins?
17 is wide open. OT, CB, LB, WR, TE are all in play. There is one other wild card possibility, if he drops, that many do not want to consider but I would: Drew Lock
17- Bush, White, Oliver, or another DT
37-
likely great value at DT, if so take regardless of above, especially Laurence or Tillery the plus sized one s, or a free safety Adderly, Rapp, Thompson, Thornhill, or lbs Tre Lamar or Wilson or Wynovich others here
95-
someone left over from above, dropped down,
OR start looking at centers. Deiter, and guards to switch to center. Heavy ones that play actual football.
My gut tells me the exact opposite. You don’t waste premium picks moving around to go for mediocrity at QB. This is a Blaine Gabbert and Blake Bortles QB draft. This is a fools good QB draft that separates good teams in how they approach the draft and run their team and the bad GMs.
If we do anything trading up I could see us try and sneak back into back end of Round 1. Advantage is you get an extra option year on the player.
My bet is defense at #6, either OT or D at #17 and in the 2nd either a WR or the OL or DL if they weren’t taken at 6 or 17.
That’d be awesome
Gotta say this about Rashan Gary -- if I saw a little higher production numbers out of him, I might be tempted to say that he would be the #1 pick in the upcoming Draft, and maybe a few past ones as well. I've watched this guy play, I've watched his highlights and my reaction is always, "OMG, Rashan is an absolute freak beast." But for whatever reason, his production numbers don't quite match what I'm seeing in videotapes! In any event, I could definitely see the Giants taking Rashan Gary at #6! That's not exactly a reach!!!
And one other thing. When this very big man flattens and runs down the LOS... Holy SH**! A very scary size/speed/power dude that looks like he can bring down an apartment building.

6 & 17. Just have a feeling somehow we will package 17 for our future qb
