Well the rash of injuries continues with Florial's fractured wrist - same one he had surgery on least year. Someone send the kid a shamrock or rabbit's foot, please.
Trying to figure out the deal with Hicks. Is it getting better or not? One day he's almost there, next day it is a few days away.
Meanwhile, Judge is being ridiculous and Gary still hasn't found it.
Bird and Voit are not setting the world on fire, but both actually having a good spring.
Frazier not helping himself and LeMahieu is off. I'm guessing the Opening day OF will have Gardner, Judge, Stanton and Wade on the bench - not sure Hicks will have enough playing time or ABs.
Cessa looking good, Lasagna isn't. He needs more innings anyway. Kahnle seems to have recovered.
JA Happ giving up 5 bombs already - but who knows what he is working on....Tanaka is Tanaka and Paxton looks sharp.
Patience, grasshopper. Let the snow melt 1st.
Judge is already in MVP form. Guy is ridiculous. Just give me a healthy Judge all year and he will be an absolute monster.
Was hoping Frazier would grab the LF job by the balls, but he's just very rusty right now and it's not looking like he's going to do that.
With Hicks out, we're going to need a lot of Gardy in CF anyway - so, there are still going to be a bunch of AB's to go around in LF until Hicksie is 100%.
Gary doesn't have it going with the stick yet - but I do think he's shown a few pluses defensively - which is good. Still really not concerned about the bat. It'll come.
Pitching should be fine - just make sure Severino is completely free of pain/inflammation - don't rush him back.
Really a bummer on Florial. Looked awesome so far this spring.
Expect him to be out until around early June - I think that's a fair estimate. So, it's not terrible for us and shouldn't affect us @ the MLB level - but, it's still a bummer.
Expected to miss Opening Day - received a 2nd cortisone shot today.
They think he will be ready against DET (April 1st)
Still not any guarantee he actually has improved or will be any better at all, but I gotta say - he's looked very solid.
True on Florial misjudging balls. It amazes me that guys are this far along and still do not judge the ball's flight correctly. Hardest are liners directly at the player.
I can understand if there is a move from IF to OF, but a kid that has been an OF all his life should be better. Of course some are naturals(like Gardner), others are just plain poor. I think Stanton's lack of field time makes him look a bit slow out there.
I have suggested this several times. Most of you guys have disagreed and said pass - but for 1 year, I can't see how it would be a bad move. Won't hamstring us, will protect us a little more if Sevy has to miss more than a month or if CC just doesn't really get it going this year, etc.
Cessa is having a really strong spring - but Loaisaga is struggling a bit and needs more work, German has shown the things we like about him, but still has some work to do.
We could just wait until the year starts and worry about it via trade if need be. But, if they could get Gio on a reasonable 1 year commit, I'm interested.
Wade is having a really good spring so far.
Seems to be going opposite field more, which is excellent
Not that it matters a whole lot. But, we did put up 14 vs. BOS on Friday an another 17 vs. TOR yesterday.
Looks like the HR's and hits are still coming today in SS action.
Only 11 days left... !

Liking the sound of that. We'd be loaded with lefty starters for the first time in a while.
No, I'm not yet...
How many players in all of baseball had 350+ AB's and posted a lower BABIP than Sanchez did last year?
(Answer is one... and it was by one single point. Logan Morrison's was .196... Sanchez' was .197)
2016/17 combined, here's what Sanchez did in 175 games...
.284/.354/.568/.923
53 HR, 132 RBI, 32 doubles.
I am more concerned with Sanchez behind the plate and how he can improve there. 25 AB's in March aren't going to have me worried about his swing.
If we get into May and he's still hitting sub-.200, striking out a lot, and the power isn't there, I'll be concerned.
Right now, though? Nah. Too early - and I think last year was more likely a combo of bad luck/injury/never getting into a rhythm than anything else.
Funny enough, he was still pacing something like a 3-3.5 fWAR season as much as he was struggling - which would have landed him within the top 3-5 for his position in 2018.
It's not a spot where a lot of teams are getting prime production. Realmuto is one of the few guys who is plus as a catcher and hits well on top of it.
Francisco Cervelli... a guy who was in the Bronx not too long ago, actually posted the 3rd highest fWAR last year.
Gary will bounce back - just has to stay healthy. I'd be really surprised if he struggled the same way in 2019.
He looked bad going for the ball over his head today. Kept looking at the ball rather than running to a spot to catch the ball. Surely a tough play, but he was staring at the ball more than he was running for the ball. Just loping after it. I guess we call that TOTALLY MISJUDGED.
A Hicks injury would allow the Yanks to carry both Voit/Bird if they'd like. You could play Stanton in LF, Gardner in CF, and then DH Voit.
Voit/Bird both have options, IIRC.
Could also DH Stanton per usual, and put Frazier in LF - but he looks like he needs more reps @ SWB right now.
Hicks is only expected to miss the first set vs. BAL anyway - but, the fact that he's needed a 2nd cortisone shot after this was supposed to just be a totally minor thing is mildly worrisome.
Having Hicks in CF and at the top of the order makes everything much easier.

Big Hicks fan here, but I'm kinda shaking my head over the contract the Yankees gave this guy in light of his injury history. He's too muscled up; too tight; or too whatever. Now he's injured again sitting on a pretty fat contract. So predictable!
