Why Sweat over Oliver?

giantstock : 3/17/2019 1:17 pm
Not arguing but wasn't Sweat good but not "that" productive in college?

And one of the knocks on Oliver is that he'd be too small for DE but Sweat isn't a DE- he's an OLB, isn't he? SO GMEN are still a bit "lacking" at DE and can get pushed around a bit without a DE selection, wouldn't they? As for Sweat I see him identified as both but he really isn;t he? He is Golden and Carter *but ofc better more than likely),isn;t he?

So was Sweat more productive that Oliver in college? Oliver was out of position in college and seems like he'd be a super fit plus wouldn't he be projected to be at least just as good as Sweat? What's the knock on Oliver vs Sweat?

Sweat
Big Rick in FL : 3/17/2019 1:23 pm : link
Was plenty productive and played in a better conference. He had 103 tackles, 30 TFL and 22.5 sacks the last two seasons.
He’s a bit

Undersized for the DT position, and he was in a verbal confrontation with his head coach that made news. Not sure he’s what the Giants are looking for character wise.
The Giants run a 3-4 defense
Jay on the Island : 3/17/2019 1:24 pm : link
Their DE's at the moment are BJ Hill, Olsen Pierre, and R.J. McIntosh. Adding Golden should help the pass rush but the Giants still need another option to challenge Carter. Golden is also signed for only 1 year. I am high on Carter but I want to see the Giants add an edge rusher early. The Giants could always find a 3-4 DE in the draft or sign/draft a NT and move Tomlinson back there.

Sweat was more productive than Oliver in college. Sweat posted 12 sacks last year and 10.5 the year before.
I dont have a problem with either

I think both will be good players. Whether its Oliver-Tomlinson-Hill or Sweat-Goodson-Ogletree-Golden

Both look good to me!!

SO they need someone more to "challenge" Carter more than "to challenge" McIntosh and Pierre?
And I'm not arguing here -- the questions above --

also what is Pierre's ceiling?

I don't think McIntosh needs to be challenged, he needs to be healthy
I'm more concerned with Pierre's floor than with his ceiling.

I really think getting Josh Allen
prdave73 : 3/17/2019 2:25 pm : link
is a most and the Giants have the ammo to do it. If they want fix this defense, this is the guy to go after at all costs. The Giants need to make sure they get quality after letting go of ODB, they cannot fail on this draft. They need game-changers.
sorry.

Sweat is 260 lbs and runs as fast as Barkley
Vanzetti : 3/17/2019 2:26 pm : link
I'm not saying he is the next LT or Khalil Mack but I can pretty much guarantee he will be a good player.

In the end it will be who Bettcher wants...

I think all of these defensive players have there advantages and disadvantages. Who fits the best? Q. Williams #1, Bosa is refined and gumby flexible. Allen is versatile and has K. Mack intensity. Oliver is a quick 3 technique. Sweat flies off the edge but is stiff. BBurns similar but lighter. CFerrell is also so flexible he can contort. D. White is best LB. J. Simmons is elite talent but hurt. C Wilkins has Giants written all over him. D Lawrence is top 10 on some boards. We could end up with two of them!

which is kind of my implied point. There are more questions from Pierre and McIntosh than with Carter, isn;t there?
Eric had Wynn listed as 3/4 DE at 260
idiotsavant : 3/17/2019 3:02 pm : link
Whereas some websites have Oliver as high as 290.

Wynn can play OLB in certain looks, crash interior and exterior me

Oliver looks like a player The Betch can use.
Because ER > DT

Edge is not a term I'd use here
idiotsavant : 3/17/2019 3:07 pm : link
I'd use OLB (rushing from edge is an i.portant aspect among many)

And no, you cannot say 'edge is more important', it's individual player.

The Aaron Donald's of the league are much more rare than a pure edge (especially more rare than those many who cannot hold the edge or dominate vs pro O tackles).
Meaning in the run
idiotsavant : 3/17/2019 3:08 pm : link
.vs runs
Because Sweat fits a 3-4 better than Oliver

People probably see Oliver functioning as Wynn and Macintosh
idiotsavant : 3/17/2019 5:32 pm : link
Mauro filled. Having the most one gap assignments within a "one gapping 3/4 variation" that Betch likes.

Only probably better in all aspects if his game?

May fit better here than in most teams in that way.

Team still needs another NT, but those can be had as well. Less rare.

Ditto. I'm not saying he's Von Miller, but potentially similar sort of player.
3-4 DEsare NOT premium picks
TD : 3/17/2019 8:53 pm : link
Unless the guy is truly special and game changing, 3-4 DEs do the dirty work and are not guys you draft high in round 1or pay top dollar to.

If this is the case I truly hate 3-4 defenses even more. I'd think you'd want and try hard to get BOTH an impact player on DL as well as LB.
