I welcome the rebuild of the Giants and I’m not particularly disappointed that the Giants traded Beckham and Vernon. I am slightly disappointed that they let Collins walk for nothing but they saved some money in the process to sort of makeup for the big hits to the cap in trading Beckham and Vernon.
Rebuilds are a reality and if the Giants do this right, we may be looking back 2-3 yrs from now and praising management for these moves. These moves remind me of what the Yankees had to face a couple of seasons ago. Aging and high priced players on the payroll, a team that really had no path to a deep run to the post season and a team with a manager that didn’t have the heart of the team.
The Yanks decided to shed payroll and let the young guys play for half the season and gems emerged like Sanchez and Judge. Now, the Yankees can be seen as a perennial threat at the World Series because they were able to get young prospects like Andujar and Torres in trades along with some key free agent signings like Stanton that were made possible from the cap clearing they did a couple of seasons back.
The Giants if they draft well this year and next can be in a similar position when Eli’s massive contract falls off the books. At least let’s hope management is as competent as Brian Cashman and the Yankees!
The Giants will more than likely receive a 3rd round compensatory pick in a year for losing Collins.
What a truly laughable statement.
I will say that Brian Cashman is significantly better at his job than any Giants exec has been lately.
And, if I'm correct, I don't believe the Yanks have actually had a losing season (sub-.500) since 1992.
Since '92, the Yanks have made the postseason 20 times, have won 5 Championships and have finished worst than 2nd in the ALE just three times.
Two consecutive years out of the postseason is as bad as it got for NYY.
For the Giants, we've made the playoffs twice in the past decade.
Thankfully we capitalized in 2011/12 and took home the Lombardi. 2016 was obviously a one and done.
It's just hard to look at the Yanks and find parallels or places the Giants can/will mimic what they've done. There's an international scouting element to baseball and a lot of other things that don't factor into the NFL, so it's a rough comparison.
And this is crazy talk. Cashman is an excellent GM/exec.
These critiques of him were more apt 15 years ago.
He's done a phenomenal job with the Yanks in recent years and has the team in a position to compete and contend for a prolonged period like they did in the mid-late 90's into the early 00's.
All joking aside, the Yankees are on the cusp of another big run with the young talent we’ve assembled. Hopefully Barkley is our Judge and the first big piece in the middle of the rebuild.
The Giants don’t have much good young talent.
At least we know you're committed to doing less with less.
Get it right we use ravens

the Yankees 1 World Series. Brian Cashman is one of the luckiest people ever in the NY sports. He was in the right place at the right time. Very few people have ever done less with more than he has.
What a truly laughable statement.
He’s been killing cashman for years it’s just awesome that he found a way to get the dig in on a nyg thread.
