Montez Sweat: medical showed pre existing heart condition

ryanmkeane : 3/17/2019 3:47 pm
Per Rapoport....this could impact his draft stock
Shouldn’t be major
ryanmkeane : 3/17/2019 3:48 pm : link
but certainly news worthy, similar to Mo Hurst
What is it?
Big Blue '56 : 3/17/2019 3:48 pm : link
For all we know it could be a murmur
didn't want him anyway
SHO'NUFF : 3/17/2019 3:49 pm : link

Maybe we get him

could mean nothing as it pertains to limiting his ability. Any word on what it is?
Sounds like

Not sure it's similar to Hurst. Hurst wasn't allowed to compete at the combine. Sweat was and performed very well.

Actually the 5th pick
Is to raw for a 6th pick
prdave73 : 3/17/2019 4:03 pm : link
anyways. Can't afford on waiting for players to develop unless its a QB.

He’s had great production over the last 2 seasons. Not sure I’d consider that raw, and if it is, it raises his ceiling even more.
Hmm

Devin White at 6 and Montez Sweat at 17?

I think DG needs to take the best player at each slot with the projection of where they will be in a year factored in. You don't want to miss out on guys with mega upsides because you are totally focused on immediate readiness.

Although, Reese and Ross way overshot with projections, almost always preferring younger players...
probably MVP
Vanzetti : 3/17/2019 4:09 pm : link
not that big a deal if so

A bit sick, but funny.

Actually I fear that this will be not be a similar draft: Five guys consensus first tier and we pick sixth.
Sorry that was meant as a response

And was cleared by the SEC to play with it.

His agents are not releasing what exactly it is

My sense is that the '96 draft was considered much more top-end loaded in terms of the first four players before we picked Cedric Jones. That is to say my sense this year is that top cadre of players is much deeper. '96 was a real stick-in-the eye in terms of what Giants missed out on.

But you can never take such assessments as gospel: Ray Lewis went 26th.
I'm only a moderate fan of him on tape
Anakim : 3/17/2019 4:23 pm : link
but I don't think people realize how truly freaky running a 4.41 at his size is. It's unheard of.

I believe it was deemed a low risk condition and he should be fine.

Not even close. There is tons of defensive talent in this draft. Hell, Ed Oliver could end up being the best player in this draft and people now have him going somewhere 8-15. Before the college season he was in the mix for the #1 pick.
I am sorry to hear that news.
Giant John : 3/17/2019 5:06 pm : link
I do believe his combine picked him up a bit. I’ve seen some mocks by some of the posters on BBI which had him going to the Giants taking him at 6 which I thought silly. My feeling was something in the 15-20 range. Now?
Well I wish him the best.
Well,
Photoguy : 3/17/2019 5:47 pm : link
if that takes Sweat off the board, then what about Farrell at 6 and the best LB available at 17?
So

we really can't say much of anything about the implications of this based on what we know. This could be anything from an abnormal ECG that is totally benign, to mitral valve prolapse, which also has no implications for a playing career to a relatively benign arrhythmia such as atrial fibrillation, which could have some down-the road implications. The fact that it hasn't limited him so far is the best indication it's benign. It's unlikely to be a more serious arrhythmia or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. So probably a relatively benign situation that won't affect his draft stock.

And btw, before the questions of "what are you, a cardiologist", the answer is, uh, yeah, I am
if you’re a cardiologist you’re the only one who would call atrial
plato : 3/18/2019 2:06 am : link
fibrillation “ benign “, it’s not malignant but it’s a major concern if paroxysmal and recurrent. I wouldn’t comment until I saw the ECG, telemetry if indicated, and in athletes an echocardiogram following a detailed exam and history.

best to say nothing without data.
